Chapter Text
Walking to the cafe was always fun, you walk through the park and get to watch everyone enjoying themselves, kids running around and laughing, parents chatting, and sometimes you can even catch a few couples, holding hands, kissing, coupley stuff, that and you could smell the smokey smell of coffee and the sweet smell of treats. I entered the cafe and it was practically empty, there were only one or two tables with people, I look over at the counter and see a boy about my age with spiky blonde hair, reading a book. I walk up to the counter, his eyes don't leave the book in his hand. Maybe he didn't see me? I cleared my throat, nothing. I look over and there's a bell next to the register, I ring it. He looks up from his book, his red eyes meeting mine, I couldn't look away, my heart started racing, I felt my face getting hotter, it was probably bright red right now, embarrassing.
"What do you want?" - He said, annoyed, I snapped out of it.
"Can I just get a uh salted caramel cream cold brew?" - I was slightly embarrassed to be ordering such a sugary drink right in front of the hottest man on planet earth, that's not a celebrity, I mean.
"Yeah, sure, whatever"- he said, putting his book down and turning away "anything else?"
"Um, n-no, that's good" - I somehow managed to stutter, my heart was slowing and my face was getting less and less hot, but his voice was...nice, calming even. I sat where I normally did, in the corner with a view of the counter, I didn't usually sit here to watch the baristas, but today was an exception. I watched as he sat back down, picked up his book, and started reading. I felt like a creep so I looked away, I took a sip of my coffee, and took out my phone to look at the time.
"Shit" - I said in a whisper that was a little louder than expected. I was going to be late, I quickly got up and grabbed my drink, and threw a few coins into the tip jar next to the register. Once I got home my mom was standing at the door.
"You're late" - she said, voice flat, I gulped.
"I know, I just got held up at the coffee shop that's all, at least I got here before she did anyways." - I infact did not get held up, I just lost track of time staring at the barista.
"Yeah, your lucky for that, now go clean yourself up, you look like crap." - she said, looking away from me and out the window.
"I thought I looked good though" - I said, hurt, looking down at my outfit.
"Not you your clothes, they look fine, brush your hair and teeth, they look like crap" - she looked at me for a second before looking out the window again.
"Alright, gimme a second!" - I yelled running up the stairs. I brushed my teeth, and made sure my hair looked as good as it would get, and ran back downstairs.
"Alright done, is she almost here?" - I asked hopeful, while walking into the kitchen.
"I hope so" - she said, turning to look at me, then back at the sink - "you look good honey, now help me with this?"
"Sure, what is it?" - I said walking over and looking over her shoulder
"Well I was just about to make some of your mom's favorite food, I really hope she likes it" - She responded, a small smile forming on her face. Then we heard a car pull up in the driveway.
"She's here!!" - I yelled running for the door, I opened the door and there she was, my mom, standing in the driveway, grabbing bags out of her trunk.
"MOM!" - I yelled, practically jumping off the front porch, and running down the driveway, and into her arms. - "Your home!" I felt tears forming in my eyes, I tried to block them out. It didn't work.
"Hey there Sharky" - She said smiling with her evenly as spiky teeth. - "Missed me?"
"Well obviously, you were gone for so long!" - I said, not wanting to ever leave this hug.
"Alright Sharky, I gotta breathe" - and with that she dispersed the hug.
"Oh right, sorry" - I said wiping the tears off my cheek
"Don't be" - She said, but her eyes were somewhere else, I looked behind me to see my mom, I stepped aside and my mom ran down the driveway and hugged her.
"I missed you" - my mom said her dress waving in the breeze like a Disney princess, majestic.
"I missed you too" - my other mom said, she was wearing sweat pants, a t-shirt and a zip up hoodie, not as formal but I can't blame her, if I was driving a car for almost 12 hours, after being on a plane for 8, I would wanna be comfy too. They hugged a little longer before eventually letting go and walking inside, I followed.
When I look at my parents I know what true love looks like, and I hope to have the same romance that they have with my future partner.
