Work Text:
Peter was actually glad Mr Harrington didn’t let him come to the Academic Decathlon field trip. Sure it sucked that his favourite teacher called him a liar without even giving him the opportunity to show his documents but who cares. School was such a small part of Peter’s life it felt meaningless. Frankly, he didn’t want to spend an entire day touring the most uninteresting areas of his own home.
Who wants to see the intern labs when Tony Stark himself made Peter his own lab?
Peter was glad he had an excuse to skip school for the day. Which is why he got very grumpy when he was woken up by Harley, who was for some reason getting ready at 8 am. “What the fuck Harls?” Peter mumbled, burying himself into his pillow.
“I have to guide a tour darling. Go back to sleep.” Harley pressed a light kiss on his boyfriend's head. Peter who was already half asleep murmured in agreement and drifted back to sleep, not registering what Harley had told him.
Peter woke up again three hours later. He remembered Harley telling him he had to do something earlier in the morning. However, he couldn’t quite remember what it was. Clueless, he went to the kitchen and poured himself a bowl of cereal. “Fri, where’s Harley?” he asked, stuffing his mouth with food. “Good morning Peter. Mr Keener is currently on floor 73. Do you want me to notify him you are looking for him?” the AI responded. “No, thank you,” Peter smiled at the nearest camera. He quickly finished his breakfast and cleaned his dishes.
He didn’t feel the need to change out of his pyjamas and just put on one of Harley’s sweatshirts. Interns on the 73rd floor were like a family to him, they’d seen each other in worse conditions than wearing PJs.
Once he was on the 73rd story he was welcomed by Yasmin, who probably should’ve gone to bed several hours ago. “Oh my god, Peter. I was literally so close to begging FRIDAY to let me into the penthouse to get you. I need help.”
“Take a deep breath first,” Peter chuckled at his friend. “Show me what’s wrong.” Yasmin pointed at the code they were working on. “This shit doesn’t work and I’m too sleep deprived to realise what I’m doing wrong.” “Promise me you’ll get some sleep if I help,” Peter said. It was something he often did when helping his fellow interns. These people forgot they were human beings who needed sleep way too often. Not that he can blame them. He wouldn’t sleep if Harley or Pepper weren’t dragging him to bed every night.
He quickly scanned the code. He pointed at the screen so Yasmin can also see the mistake. “You misspelt a command which kept it from working. It’s not a big deal, I think it’s only in one place,” Peter said. Yasmin palmed their face. “I think this is the stupidest mistake I’ve ever made,” they complained. “Wouldn’t happen again if you get some sleep,” Peter said, knowingly. He loved giving advice he himself didn’t use.
Suddenly Peter felt eyes on him. He looked up to see his entire Academic Decathlon team AND his boyfriend staring at him. They were outside the little cubic era reserved for Yasmin taking in the view in front of them.
Peter Parker, the boy that got banned from the trip for supposedly lying, was sitting in front of them chatting with an actual intern.
“If it isn’t the most interesting thing you guys can see on this tour,” Harley said to the group. He went up to Peter and put an arm around his shoulder, pulling the younger boy closer to himself. “This is Peter Parker, everybody. Our youngest intern and future boss. Also my lovely boyfriend,” Harley announced and kissed his Peter’s head. The younger boy could feel the smile of the other on his skin.
Peter slowly waved at his team, who was gaping at him. “Yeah we know, he is in our team,” MJ informed from the back of the group. Peter smiled, seeing her sketch the shocked faces of the others. “Oh shit, this is your team sweetheart? That’s the teacher that banned you from the trip?” Harley openly asked, pointing at a very red-faced Mr Harrington. “Yeah, but it’s fine I didn’t want to come anyways,” Peter shrugged. “That’s not the point,” Harley turned to the teacher, glaring at him to make him even more embarrassed. “Is me, a confirmed employee of Stark Industries verifying that he is Tony’s personal intern enough for you? Or should I arrange you a meeting with Tony Stark and Pepper Potts to discuss this?”
“Is this some kind of joke?” Flash spat. Peter could see the vein in his forehead throbbing. “Why would it be a joke?” Harley raised an eyebrow. “I mean there is no way Penis has an internship here let alone being the company's heir. Did he pay you to say that? Did he do other things?” Flash asked. Peter sometimes wondered if this boy could hear himself talking.
“What did you say?” Harley growled, which made Peter physically hold him so his boyfriend wouldn’t do anything he’d regret. “What’s your name?” Harley asked, before giving Flash the opportunity to open his mouth to respond.
“Flash Thompson,” Flash declared proudly. “Your real name,” Harley demanded with the last ounce of patience in his body. “Eugene Thompson,” he said less audible. “FRIDAY, please send the video of what happened to Tony so we can discuss this further. In the meantime please send security to escort this boy out of the building.” Harley ordered. Then he turned to Flash. “We have zero tolerance for bullying in this facility. I have no doubt you’ll be banned from any Stark Industries building from now on. And if you continue this little mean boy attitude of yours I’m sure it wouldn’t be difficult for Tony to make sure you never see the sight of a university ever.”
Peter had to admit that might’ve been the hottest thing he has ever seen.
The security was in the room before Flash could answer. Several moments later Flash’s parents were called and he was taken to the security room to wait to be picked up.
“Now we have that out the way please follow me to the elevator, I believe it’s lunchtime.”
“Thank you,” Peter kissed Harley’s palm in the cafeteria while the group was eating. “Anytime darling,” Harley smiled at him brightly. “But let me know if the little shit continues doing it.” Peter wanted to object. To say he could take it and he’d rather face it than someone else. But Harley put a hand up to shush him. “No objections.”
“Okay I promise I’ll let you know,” Peter said. Harley made a satisfied noise. Peter who was very aware of the constant whispering about himself got up from the table, “I don’t think I’m going to stick around. I’ll go to Tony’s lab or something.” Harley nodded and kissed his boyfriend. Peter quickly pulled away reminding him his whole class was there. “Yeah, I know. They are also all watching you right now, doll,” Harley smirked.
Before Peter could leave the cafeteria he was stopped by Mr Harrington. “Peter I know it is late for this but I’m sorry for not even giving you a chance to explain yourself.” Peter wanted to make a very sarcastic comment at his teacher but he bit his tongue. “It’s fine Mr Harringotn. I understand why you did it.” “You can join us if you want,” his teacher offered, knowing it was the stupidest offer ever. “No thanks, I don’t really need a tour of my own home,” Peter smiled. He went to the elevator and asked FRIDAY to take him to wherever Tony was.
His old man was going to love the story of the field trip Peter wasn’t supposed to go to.
