lost in the labyrinth (in my own mind)

Summary:

Rosaria’s kisses are intense, in her own way. She's a slow kisser, a contrast to Ajax’s eagerness, but while his are like a soft, relieving breeze on a warm day, her’s are a warning for a windstorm. She quietly picks Kaeya apart, leaving a mess of him, only for him to beg to be destroyed again as the storm passes by.

She's addictive. She's dangerous. And when Kaeya feels the pair of hands that have never really left his body, playing with the hem on the back of the large, white shirt he wears to sleep, he realizes, he's dangerous, too.

Work Text:

Kaeya can't say exactly when it became... this.

Childe's hand— no, Ajax's hand — on his thigh, slowly rubbing circles with his thumb on Kaeya's skin. He can hear his heartbeat with his head lying so close to his chest, a calm, relaxed rhythm that Kaeya doesn't have the opportunity to hear often.

Ajax seemed amused with the way Rosaria's head moved with every deep breath he took, her head laying in his tummy while he toyed with the darker streak of her hair.

It was left unsaid, but also clear to the three of them that they were worn out, for their own reasons. Being able to relax like this, to just let their guards down and revel in the comfort of each other's presence... Ajax could feel the weight on his back starting to drift, as well as his consciousness.

Kaeya didn’t seem to leave it unnoticed. Kaeya leaves a bite where Ajax’s collarbone ends and where his neck starts, it's soft and weak, but enough to wake him up from the haze he was almost falling into. "Don't fall asleep on me now, will you, Polar Star?" Kaeya says. Ajax doesn’t have to face him to know there’s a small, amused smile on his lips.

"Hmph," is the only reply he gives, burying his head even deeper where it lays on the pillow and yawning, the actual answer coming out a lot quieter after. "I spent the whole day traveling to get to you yesterday. Let me sleep in."

He hears him snicker. “You can, but I have to go soon. I promised Hertha I would give her the report of the new commissions for the week.”

Before Ajax can successfully wrap his arms around Kaeya and force him to stay, he sits up on their shared bed. “Isn't today your day off?” Rosaria asks, not bothering to move from where she lies on the bed. “And isn’t that a task for someone other than the Cavalry Captain?”

Kaeya chuckles. He knows how rigorously Rosaria takes her days off. In her eyes, he might as well be a sinner for even thinking about work when he’s not supposed to be on duty. “I’m doing someone a favor,” he says, getting up on his feet and reaching out to her, one knee on the bed as he bends down to leave a kiss on the corner of her lips. “I plan on claiming that back soon, so I might as well get it done.”

She hums, and Kaeya considers it as her approval for what now sounds like a good enough excuse for his sin. When he looks over at Ajax, he sees the anticipation in his eyes, and he can almost mistake it for a sparkle in the deep-blue ocean they hold.

Ajax moves, forcing Rosaria to get out of the comfortable position she’s been in for over an hour. When he finally reaches out to Kaeya, both of his knees on the bed while he uses his hands to hug him over his shoulders.

He takes the feeling in, Ajax's chapped lips, the nearly-there flavor of the grape toothpaste he himself uses and Ajax borrows when he comes over to his place, and the way he grunts when he softly traps his inner lip between her teeth, always so sensitive due to his anxiety-induced habits of punishing them in tough situations.

Kaeya breaks the kiss, slowly drawing further from his face and admiring the way he doesn't open his eyes, drunk in a haze in which he has no intentions of sobering up from.

The hand on the nape of his neck doesn't let go, though. He's insistent, quietly trying to get one more taste, reaching out for his lips. He considers, for a second, but decides against his will, approaching only to give him a quick peck before trying to get off the bed completely.

He hears Ajax complain, pulling him by the shoulders and falling with his back on the bed, purposefully making the blue-haired man lose his balance and fall on top of him. Ajax almost grunts, but bites it back when the weight of Kaeya on top of him is oh so welcome.

Kaeya gives in, bending down to kiss Ajax, a proper kiss that has him reconsidering his will to get off the bed at all, his promise of that one favor, hell, his job altogether.

And, if the sweet, warm taste of Ajax lips glued to his isn’t enough of a reason to freeze the time around him, the feel of Rosaria’s hands on each side of his waist, pulling him in, a hand on his chin guiding him to now claim her turn with him, is.

Her body is slightly colder than Ajax’s, courtesy of her visions, but the amenity is nothing he isn't used to, at this point, especially being a cryo allogene himself.

It doesn't last long. She pulls away as sneakily as she lured him, but before any complaint can be mouthed, a pair of warmer, sweaty hands take hold of his face to pull him down. Kaeya chuckles during the kiss, because it’s always like this, with Ajax. He drinks him in like he’s been away for years from something vital, withdrawing, and he clings to it like he doesn’t know if he’ll ever get the chance to taste it again.

He knows the thought holds more truth than it has any right to. Although, if Ajax really feels like every kiss they share might be the last, Kaeya doesn’t feel even slightly bothered to make sure every one it’s a good one.

Kaeya's mouth soon leaves his lips to pepper his neck with open-mouthed kisses.

He moves to the side, suddenly self-conscious about Ajax’s comfort in that position, and buries his face on Ajax's chest while Rosaria takes hold of his left arm, placing one of her legs between Kaeya’s own and stretching out an arm to lay on top of him.

Slowly, he starts to feel himself drift off on that comfortable, warm and cold in all the right ways and safe haze, only snapping out of it by Rosaria's muffled laugh against his back. Kaeya turned his head to look at her, only to find her pale pink eyes softening with a smile, one he knew all too well to ever miss.

And then it hit him.

"Did you both just—" he started, only to get interrupted by Ajax’s laugh erupting.

Rosaria and Ajax stared at each other, and it took no time at all for Kaeya to realize it's been their plan all along, all the dominoes cascading into line to get him stuck on the bed, enabling them to easily hold him down and stop him from ever leaving for any assignment he had left to get done on his day off.

"Have I really been tamed this easily?" Kaeya said, a wide, amused smirk on his face. It was ridiculous how much the two of them were in the same line of thought. Kaeya stretches just enough to reach Rosaria's cheek with his own lips and she hums contently. "You're truly masterminds."

Ajax's right hand moves just slightly to rest on his thigh, and the other makes its way up to the curve of his bare waist. He takes a moment to appreciate the view; dark skin shining in the morning glow, contrasting with the gray-ish tone of Rosaria’s arm stretched out over his stomach, the hair strand that's usually well-groomed being specially unruly, and the soft, barely-there stretches of both nail and the sharp edges of Rosaria's rings — that Kaeya always requests to be kept on during these moments, for reasons Ajax suspects is more for him to reminisce after than the momentary delight of the pain.

Ajax wants to reach out for her, too. He wants to put his arms around her, whisper a stupid joke bad enough to make the Angel’s Share silent even after the patrons drank way past their fill, risk getting either a light punch or a chuckle out of her for it, just because is so good to hear her laugh at any given chance, especially if he’s the cause of it.

He knows he’s staring, at both of them, but if neither of them mind it, then why would he stop?

"We should get up, soon, either way." Ajax says, but doesn't move a muscle. His partners don't move, either.

"It's a saturday." Rosaria says.

"Sunday," Kaeya retorts.

She dismisses him with a wave of her hand. "Lazy day, either way. We can stay like this for some more time."

This time, no answer fills the bedroom. A silent agreement. Kaeya can do his job later. Rosaria isn't exactly expected to show up at choir practice, anyway. Ajax’s task in Mondstadt is no more than behaving and making sure the lower ranking Fatui behave, as well, keeping the peace.

They’re running around in a maze, and they know it.

It won’t be long until Ajax— Tartaglia. Won’t be long until Tartaglia is assigned somewhere else, on the other end of Teyvat. The Tsaritsa’s most prized weapon. Her so valued killer. Her Royal Highness’ closest connection to the control of the unknown depths of the Abyss.

It won’t be long until Kaeya has to step up and complete his mission. It’s getting closer and closer to the fateful day he’ll be forced to make that one choice that has been haunting him since his childhood. His role was decided when he was just a boy, hell, even before that, he doesn’t hold a single doubt.

It won’t be long until Rosaria has to put an end to the endless nights avoiding her past, her history, the things she did. The false father murdered by a stolen child. She had long since come to terms with being a child of the moonlight, and it was inevitable that she would someday return to the embrace of darkness.

That, though, isn’t a turn they have to take, yet. Finding each other in the labyrinth harbored for them, by them. They got lucky.

And, just for now, they have time.

Notes:

can i just rant about the reference i put here for a hot second .

in greek mythology, the labyrinth was a really really complex maze built by daedalus to hold the minotaur, an ever-hungry flesh-eating monster

now think of kaeya rosaria and ajax all thinking theyre the monster in question and thats why they're lost in the labyrinth. they see themselves as monsters and also recognize that their partners see themselves as monsters too and still love them and accept them despite not accepting themselves

thats it thank you for coming to my ted talk

also i love reading comments just to let you know yk
