Work Text:
Eli’s first day of kindergarten was a success but after 5 mins of mama Stiles leaving he started to silently cry because he was so overwhelmed being on his own. Too many unfamiliar scents. So the teacher had to call Stiles back in so he could try to encourage Eli to stay.
Stiles ends up leaving, only after being in a hug for a whole 10 mins. Eli said it’s so he could have his clothes smell like home
During class clean up, Eli is the best helper because he always does clean up with his parents in his room when too many toys are out and about. And perhaps being a werewolf pup had its advantages picking up heavy toys. He gets a yellow super Mario power star.
During lunch break Eli opens his bento lunch box and smiles so happily when he sees his favorite lunch made by Derek. A cold cut sandwich with mayo. No crust cut into triangles. Skewered cheese cubes with grapes, and his dam's famous Kołaczki cookies. Oh and a Capri Sun
Just as he was about to start eating his sandwich Eli stops as a foul odor hits his nostrils, causing him to scrunch up his face in disgust. He sniffs his sandwich to make sure it's not spoiled. It's not the sandwich, it's coming from another lil boy across from him.
Eli is still very new to his werewolf abilities, but he can recognize emotional scents. He has always been a sensitive child. He smells sadness, despair, and stress. It's all coming from the other boy, and with good reason. The container he has doesn't really have much food.
'Maybe his Papa forgot to pack him food' he thought to himself as he observed the three crackers and ketchup packets? What a weird lunch, he thought, and then looked at his own. He had more than enough here to share...
Next thing Eli was already walking over.
Eli didn't know how exactly he managed to go over to the other kinder, he was so shy and was skittish with unfamiliar people who weren't apart from his pack family. The other little boy merely looked at him in question.
It made Eli so nervous that all he could do was give half his sandwich and equal split of snacks with rosy cheeks, and glossy eyes. A usual side effect when Eli was shy or anxious from nerves. Just as quickly, he retreated back to his spot and ate in silence.

When school ended Eli waited near the gate with the other children, he held his nose up trying to catch the scent of either of his parents. He began fiddling with his backpack straps. Nerves were starting to set in until he felt someone mess with his hair.
Felix had to have walked across campus from where his 4th grade classroom had been just to meet up with Eli. He hugged and held on to Felix with dear life as he rubbed his cheeks against his sweater.
"Its okay Eli, first day is always the hardest"
And with that said Felix held Eli's hand as they waited for either parent to show up. Felix was taller so he was able to spot the familiar blue metallic Rubicon pulling around the bend and stopping at the designated pick up zone.
