Suddenly, the worst idea came to her and she blurted it out before she had a second to stop herself. “My brother is playing for team Canada.” Stupid, so stupid.
“Your brother? Who is he?” Rozanov examined her face closely. Again, he looked at the bridge of her nose with some intensity.
“Shane. Shane Hollander. He’s my twin. My twin brother,” she stammered. Fuck, this was a nightmare.
Rozanov simply shrugged and looked down into his coffee. “That explains why you did not want to see me, yes?” His little deflated face tugged at her chest.
“No, no. I was busy. Honestly.”
He looked up at her renewed and smiled, “I see it now. I should have figured it out. You have same eyes. Freckles.” He rubbed the edge of his ceramic cup. “Would he be upset you went out with me?”
“Oh, um.” Shane wasn’t sure what to answer here. This was clearly a date, and she had to stop acting dumb about it. It’s herself so of course she’s not mad. But if she really was Shane Hollander’s twin, maybe he’d be mad at her?
“Probably, maybe. But I don’t care. He’ll learn to live with it.”
