Chapter Text
It was a bright, blue, Brisbane morning, and a Blue Heeler was just waking due to the sunlight that crept through the curtain and onto her fur.
Bluey woke and became aware of a dream she'd had in the night. It was some sort of vivid vision into the future. She could remember sitting on a balcony in somewhere unfamiliar but was comforted by the very familiar black and white figure who was sitting next to her. Bluey knew that there was more to the dream but couldn't remember exactly, yet she was more distracted by the ongoing theme throughout her dreams from the last few weeks. Mackenzie. She got up and started to think about something to eat.
Once out of bed she checked to see what the time was, 9:35.
Bluey - Well it's just me and Dad today, she muttered and started to make her way down stairs. Bingo was out for the day doing some sort of Hockey competition and Mum had gone to watch.
Bluey got downstairs and had entered the kitchen to Bandit watching some cricket highlights from the day before on his phone.
Bandit - Well look who has appeared.
Bluey - It isn't that late.
Bandit - I know, I'm only messing with you, but you could have said good luck to your sister.
Bluey - Do I really have to?
Bandit - No, but I'm sure Bingo would have appreciated it. Anyway what do you want for Brekky?
Bluey - Umm, maybe Pancakes.
Bandit - I guess as it's the start of the holidays we can have pancakes.
Bandit then got some pre made pancakes from out of one of the cupboards and put a few in the toaster and the others to the side
Bluey - Dad, what are we doing this summer? Bluey asked.
Bandit - To be honest, not very much, like I know we're going to Stripe's for his birthday and we might go to Sydney if Bingo's team win this hockey tournament but that's about it. Oh yeah and we're going to the Border Collies on Friday for curry.
Bluey blushed a bit because she remembered her dream from that night and the thought of seeing Mackenzie even though she had seen him at school the day before. She didn't like him in that sense but as a friend, she thought in her mind but secretly she knew she was lying to herself. She had liked Mackenzie for years but never really said much about it to anyone. Her friends had teased her about all the time she was spending with Mackenzie but they never really took it any further than that even though they were bang on correct. Bluey was just never going to admit it. But the prospect of being with him without any of their friends to make suggestions about them, was a prospect she liked the idea of.
Bandit - Bluey, what are thinking about.
Bluey then snapped out of her thoughts and quickly responded, what, oh nothing
Bandit - A likely story, anyway pancakes are ready.
They both took a plate and sat at the table outside. For a while not much was said until Bandit broke the silence by talking about some dog at his work who had managed to flip a forklift onto its side, which Bluey wasn't really listening to, but was glad of it as she felt that he could tell what she was thinking when there was silence.
Again silence, but this time it was more awkward because they had both stopped eating.
Bandit - Look Bluey, I can tell that something is on your mind, what is it?
Bluey - As I said nothing.
Bandit - Come on, I know your lying, just tell me, I only want to help
Bluey - Urgh, it's nothing like that.
Bandit - Then what is it?
Bluey - Well it's just...
Bandit - It's just?
Bluey - Fine, look I think I have feelings for Mackenzie but don't know what to do about it.
Bandit - Well do you think he likes you back?
Bluey - Oh yeah, but as a friend, but I don't know if he'd like me like that, at least I doubt it.
Bandit - Really, I've seen you both enjoying each others company very much.
Bluey - Yeah but as friends not as boyfriend and girlfriend.
Bandit - I dunno, you do spend a lot of time together.
Bluey - Yeah but as friends.
Bandit - But would you want to go out with him
Bluey - Like I guess so, I don't know
Bandit - Oh come on, of course you know
Bluey - OK. Yes I do, like I really want to but I just can never bring myself to do it when I'm with him.
Bandit - Well maybe you just have to do it and try not to fear the possible consequences. Like you could do it on Friday.
Bluey - What, are you mad!
Bandit - Possibly, but what's the worst that can happen?
Bluey - He wouldn't want to be friends with me any more because he thinks I'm weird.
Bandit - OK fine, but I'm just saying that if you want to know, you have to do it sooner rather than later. Bluey - And if he says yes? Bandit - Well I'll be happy for you and I'm sure you're mum and your sister would be too, and Mackenzie is a good kid, I'm pretty sure I trust him to look after you. Bluey - Thanks dad, but I still have to ask him. Bandit - Well it's your decision not mine. You do you kiddo.
The two then cleared the table and headed back indoors.
Bluey snuck off back to her room to look at her phone but couldn't get what her dad had said out of her head. She thought about all of the bad things that could happen but also deeply wished that she would actually pluck up some courage and actually ask him out.
Mackenzie:
Mackenzie was glad that school was over for the summer because he hated it. It wasn't that he didn't like the teachers, or wasn't popular or that he wasn't very clever (although he wouldn't admit, in some subjects he was one of the best in his class such as History and English), it was just that he wanted to do other things. He didn't quite know what, but he was obsessed with cars and aeroplanes and really didn't care about some stupid maths with letters in it. He was just glad he had a while to do nothing to do with school and could do whatever he wanted.
Mackenzie was layed down on his bed, when he saw the postman walk upto the door through the window and saw he had a large envelope. This would be a car magazine that he got monthly as a present from his grandparents (on his Mum's side of the family). He was an only child and the eldest of two Grand children. His dad was an only child as well and his mum has a brother who has a daughter who is a few months younger than Mackenzie. He liked the perks of being an only child which means that he gets full attention at any time but also when he was younger, just after his mum and dad had moved to Australia he got very lonely but this was cured when he became good friends with the Blue Heeler who lived on the hill on the other side of the park.
He rushed downstairs and grabbed the post from off the door mat. He threw the envelope and all of the other leaflets and free trials in the bin and was heading upstairs to his room when he was interrupted from his mission by his mum
Marie (aka Mackenzie's mum) - In a rush aren't you.
Mackenzie - Yeah well my magazine has arrived and I want to read it.
Marie - I'm sure my parents will be happy to know that you're enjoying their present.
Mackenzie - Well it's great, it's very interesting and this week on the cover there is the brand new Fer...
Marie - That's enough before I fall asleep. On the topic of sleep, the Heelers are coming around on Friday for curry and I think we all might camp out in the garden.
Mackenzie - Sounds great, last time we stayed up until midnight, if not longer.
Marie - What were you talking with Bluey the whole time?
Mackenzie - Rrrgh, Mum would you stop saying that I like Bluey
Marie - I never said that (knowing full well that Mackenzie likes Bluey), I'm just saying that you always send a lot of time with her.
Mackenzie - Uugh
Mackenzie then ran up the stairs and resumed laying on his bed.
He couldn't deny it, he really did like Bluey but he just didn't know how to ask her out.
He read for a while, and soon enough found that it was the niddle of the afternoon. He checked his phone, found nothing so he decided to go and get some fresh air.
Because he lived right next to the park, it was the ideal place to go for a stroll, and the park was always had so many good memories from a few years ago when he was younger. He thought about all of the stuff that he had done and smiled as he remembered the good fun he had. He then sat down on one of the benches and just sat, deep in thought.
I want to ask Bluey out on a date, but to where, he thought. He then was lost in thought about whether she would say yes or not, how long they would stay together, would it be a few months, would it be forever? He didn't know. He hadn't even asked yet but he thought that Friday could be a good time because then they would have the whole summer. But would she say yes? He thought so because they had been friends for years, but maybe Bluey would have asked.
He thought on like this for about half an hour until he decided what to do.
He wandered home and sat in the living room until dinner. He was happy with what he had decided to do but now just had to wait until Friday.
Notes for chapter:
Bluey and Mackenzie are both teenagers and are somewhere near the end of secondary school.
