“Hey Bart, want to do a sprint if you have time?”
Bart looks up from his position on the manor’s couch to see Jason of all people talking to him. He gives Jason an intrigued smile.
“Sure, but I doubt you can beat me. Where are we sprinting to?”
Jason tilts his head at the young speedster. It takes a solid minute for it to hit him.
“Oh, I don’t mean as a race. Dick may be dumb enough to do that but I’m not. A sprint is an online thing.”
Bart springs upright. He sits at the edge of the couch. Jason sits down beside him with his laptop out.
“You know that Discord Replacement set up for us ages ago? Well, there is a bot he set up that will track how many words you write in the allotted time.”
“Crash. How do you use it?”
“Here, watch me set it up.”
Bart scoots over to Jason. Jason turns his laptop so Bart can see. Bart enthusiastically watches.
After Jason is finished explaining and demonstrating, he turns to Bart. Bart is opening a word doc on his phone.
“I take it you want to do one then?”
“Yeah! Of course! This sounds fun. It also shows who has the highest word count?”
“It gives your words per minute as well.”
Bart’s eyes light up. Jason lets a genuine smile escape, instead of his signature smirk.
“Ready?”
“Let’s do this!”
Bart jumps himself over to the opposite side of the couch, so he and Jason have space. They make eye contact then Jason starts the sprint.
Hours pass by.
Jason and Bart are entering their ending word counts once again when Alfred enters the room. Neither boy looks up.
“Master Jason, what is it you and young Bart have been occupying yourselves with? Quite strange to see the two of you together.”
The two in question take their eyes off their screens then look to Alfred. He raises an eyebrow at the shared childish smile on their faces.
“We’ve been writing Alfred! You should join us! It is quite fun.”
“Is that right? Let me know the next day you both plan on doing so and I may just have to join.”
Alfred gives them a smirk before leaving the room. Bart gives Jason a look. He reciprocates a similar look.
“Why is it that you asked me to sprint with you? Doesn’t Damian write? I’m sure Roy would join too.”
“I asked since you were out here waiting on Tim and Marinette. Also, despite your impulsive nature, you take your time to think out your writing. Demon Spawn would take it as a challenge then insist the bot is faulty because he didn’t write the most.”
“Wait a minute, was that Roy that randomly joined about four sprints in?”
“Who else would be ‘GreenArrowSux’?”
Bart laughs as he nods his head in agreement.
Jason and Bart spend another hour sprinting before Alfred shows up to drag them to dinner. After dinner, the writing duo comes up with a schedule to spend time doing more sprints together.
Slowly but surely, Bart and Jason end up having the strongest bond between a Flash and a Bat. Jason effectively stole Bart away from his brother. Not what Jason had in mind, but he is secretly proud of his unintentional win.
