Chapter Text
“Oh shit, here comes the boss fight. I can’t believe Tsukasa’s in the bathroom, she’s gonna miss it!”
“A boss fight is the big thing, right? The really important thing?” Kagami asked.
“Yes!” Konata rocked nervously in her desk chair. “And if I lose, I’m screwed! I can’t afford to mess up, not even a little!”
Kagami smiled. “I didn’t know watching you play this stuff could actually be so entertaining.”
“Aren’t you glad you came over today? Man, if only Tsukasa was here. She’ll probably see the second half, at least.”
Dramatic music played from Konata’s computer speakers, signaling the beginning of the fight. “It’s starting! This is gonna be so hard, it’s a really advanced boss fight and I’m low on items.” Her fingers drummed against her keyboard as she glanced back at Kagami. “Kiss for good luck?” Konata added sarcastically.
Before she could properly consider the consequences, Kagami leaned forward and planted a brief kiss on Konata’s cheek.
For a moment, Konata was too stunned to move, and the shock cost her a significant amount of HP points. Her hands moved on instinct to defend herself, but her brain lagged behind and her keystrokes were clumsy. “Kagami…” she began, but didn’t know how to continue.
“Looks like you’re losing.”
“I- shut up, I got this.”
But Konata’s brain was stuttering, her fingers reaching the correct keys seconds too late, her panic growing with every attack she missed.
“Kona-chan, are you winning? Oh, your face is all red!” Tsukasa said, returning from the bathroom.
“Y-yes, I’m winning.”
“Even I know enough about video games to see that you’re getting your ass kicked,” Kagami scoffed.
It was true, Konata’s HP was dangerously low and she couldn’t seem to land any substantial hits. No matter how hard she focused, her mind returned to the lingering warmth on her cheek where Kagami’s lips touched her, and she knew her lips would feel even warmer if…
Oh shit.
Konata’s character was impaled by a broadsword and fell to the ground, HP fully drained.
“I lost!” Konata leaned back in her chair, pressing her hands to her forehead. “How could I lose? How was I so stupid? I can’t believe this!”
“Aw, I’m sorry,” Tsukasa said. “For the record, I thought you played very well.”
“I didn’t! I missed every combo, I couldn’t hit the weak spots, I kept leaving myself open to attacks from the little guys… This is the worst moment of my entire life.”
Well… Konata reconsidered, weighing Kagami’s kiss against her ensuing loss. Maybe not the complete worst.
“Seems like my good luck charm didn’t work very well,” she muttered.
“You asked for it, you got it,” Kagami replied irritably.
Maybe next time I should make sure to ask for a kiss on the lips.
On second thought, I might lose even worse.
