Chapter Text

honey honey

Cassie has never missed her other father. Regulus had always made sure she had everything she could ever need.
They were so much alike: same grey eyes, same black hair, same temper.
Same curiosity.
That was why she was doing it; she couldn’t accept to just not know.
She closed the letters, and prayed for the best.
Prayed she didn’t make a mistake.
Prayed they would come.
Prayed she could find him.
Prayed his father wouldn’t get too mad about it.
Hope was the only thing she had left at this point.
She watched the envelopes one last time.
“It’s now or never” she thought while sending them.

You Are Invited To The Wedding Of
Cassiopea Black
&
Samantha Macdonald

June 12th; Sifnos, Greece

***

Regulus was stressed.
There was no way of denying it.
His baby girl was getting married!
He had been planning this wedding since Cassie came into his room one day with a velvet box in her hands, telling her father she wanted to marry her girlfriend.
He was so proud of her, so young, yet so sure of what she wanted.
Just like him.
Almost a year later, there he was, making sure everything was perfect for the big day.
It was hard, and he was sure that without the help of Samatha’s mother, Mary, he wouldn’t have survived.
The brides always found funny how their parents cared more about their wedding than they did.
If it was up to them, they would’ve get married right away, on the beach they met years ago, without anyone there except for Regulus and Mary.
But the latter would’ve never let their daughters not have their special, magical day.
Regulus couldn’t have asked for a better partner than Mary to help him, and he was really excited that her and Sam were going to be part of their family.
Maybe it was because she was a single teen mom just like him, but as soon as Mary stepped into the island with her 13 year old daughter, Regulus knew they were gonna be great friends.
She was the only one he trusted when it came to plan and organise their daughter’s wedding.
So, he left her taking care of preparations, while the was at the pier, welcoming some very special guests.
“Reggie!” A blonde girl screamed running off the boat hugging her best friend.
“It’s nice to see you too, Pandora.” Regulus said hugging her back.
“I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too, chèrie.”
“When was the last time we saw each other? Ten months ago? Your hair has grown, I might be able to braid it.”
“Don’t even think about braiding my hair, Mrs Lovegood.” Regulus laughed.
Pandora scrunched her nose in annoyance “Ugh, it’s been years and I’m still not used to it.”
“How’s Xenophilius?”
“He’s good, but so busy with work lately. He said he apologises to both you and Carrie for not making it to the wedding.”
“Tell him not to worry about it, and that all of you are more than welcome to drop by whenever you’re free.”
“I will.”
Meanwhile, his cousins and nephew were behind her, asking some guy’s who worked at the hotel to help them with their bag.
“Now, Draco, I expect you to be on your best behaviour.” Narcissa was telling his son “Please, don’t cause any drama while we’re here, and try to be nice to Cassiopea’s friends.”
“I’m always nice, mother.” Draco scoffed.
“No, you’re not.” Both Tonks and Luna said.
“Oh fuck off, you two.” He argued.
“Draco! What did I just said?!” His mother
He stomped his feet like a child, but was too scared of talking back to his mother.
Narcissa, Andromeda and Bellatrix walked to their cousin, who excused himself from his best friend to greet them.
“Here it is, my favorite cousin.” Bellatrix said ruffling his hair.
"Will you ever stop messing up my hair?" Regulus laughed.
"Nah, remember when I cut them while you were sleeping when you were 9? It was hilarious."
"Yes, yes, you're crazy, Bella, we know." Narcissa interrupted her before turning to Regulus "You look stressed."
"And you haven't looked this good since your wedding day. How does it feel to be a Black again?" He asked smiling.
"It's amazing. Ever since Lucius left, the house seem brighter."
"I am so glad you divorced that piece of shit." Bellatrix said grabbing both her and Regulus.
"Me too." Regulus added.
"Me three." Andromeda said, joining the conversation "I never liked him. You deserve better."
"Well, not anyone can be lucky enough to find a perfect husband like you did, honey." Ted joked hugging his wife from behind.
"Shut up, Ned." Bellatrix said "I'm still trying to figure it out if you're good enough for my sister."
"My name is not..." Ted started, but Bellatrix was already going away.
"She knows your name." Andromeda reassured him.
“Where is my goddaughter?” Dorcas screamed while walking past them.
“I’m here.” Luna joked behind her.
“Very funny, honey, I meant my other goddaughter.”
“She’s at the hotel.” Regulus said “Let’s go, she can’t wait to see you all.”
They arrived at the “Back to Black”, where Cassie was outside with Mary and Sam, discussing the decoration.
“Unties!” She screamed running to them.
“Hi, sweetie.” Dorcas said hugging her “Look at you! You are as bright as the sun, it must be the wedding glow everyone talks about.”
“I think you’re talking about the pregnant glow, Cas.” Pandora corrected them.
“Nope,” She replied “I was there for both of you during your pregnancy, and I saw no glow. Just swollen feet and weird midnight cravings.”
“Woah, my self esteem is really gonna benefit from this.” Regulus joked.
“She’s right tho. These two,” Bellatrix agreed pointing at her sisters “were a nightmare. Always complaining, and complaining. Couldn’t wait for them to pop the little monsters out so it’ll be over.”
Draco and Tolks raised their eyebrows.
“And you were the cutest monsters I’d ever seen.” She added.
“Well,” Cassie interrupted the award conversation “I can’t wait to catch up with all of you but, it’s getting late, so I really wanna talk to my cousins before going to bed. You know having some girl time.”
“Of course,” Andromeda said “you kids go. We’ll see you tomorrow at breakfast.”
Tonks went inside, going straight to Cassie’s room, while she grabbed Draco’s and Luna’s arm and followed them.
“What, but I’m not a girl!” Draco complained.
“Yes, you are” Luna and Tonks said.
In that moment, Draco knew coming to this wedding was a stupid idea.

***

“So, what did you want to talk about that couldn’t be discussed in front of our parents?” Draco asked once they were in Cassie’s room.
“Oh, that.” Cassie pulled something that looked like an old journal out of her bag “I did something crazy and I’m scared my father is going to kill me because of it.”
Luna pointed at the journal “And I assumed this old book has something to do with it.”
Cassie turned it, showing the big “Property of R.A. Black” on top of the front page.
“This,” Cassie took a deep breath “is my father old diary, from when he was 19.”
Everyone looked at her confused.
“In this diary, he talked about the … affairs, that he had, the time he got pregnant with me.” Cassie continued.
“You mean you’re now able to find your father?” Tonks asked, making Cassie nod in response “So, what did you do? Did you contacted them?”
“Worse, I invited them to the wedding.” Cassie confessed.
“YOU DID WHAT?” Draco shouted.
“Lower your voice! I know it wasn’t the most brilliant idea but I thought it was worth a shot.”
“Are you insane? You can’t just invite a stranger to your wedding.”
“Well, it’s my wedding so, I think I can.”
“You’re just like your uncle sometimes, you know?”
“It’s not the end of the world. Calm down.” Luna said to Draco, then she turned to Cassie and continued “So, what do we know about your possible father?”
“Well,” Cassie opened the diary “here’s what he wrote.

June 30th
What a night!
I met a guy at the bar, he was just so gorgeous.
A little vain but whatever.
His name is Barty Crouch, and he talked with this ridiculous posh accent, I had to make fun of it.
He didn’t seemed offended, and we kept talking all night.
I got so drunk, probably made a fool of myself.
I can feel my cheeks heating up just remembering what I told him;
“You should take it as a compliment
That I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk.
You should think about the consequence
Of your magnetic field being a little too strong.
And I got a boyfriend, he's older than us,
He's in the club doin' I don't know what,
You're so cool, it makes me hate you so much.
Whisky on ice, Sunset and Vine,
You've ruined my life by not being mine.
You're so gorgeous,
I can't say anything to your face,
'Cause look at your face.
And I'm so furious,
At you for making me feel this way;
But what can I say?
You're gorgeous.
You make me so happy, it turns back to sad,
There's nothing I hate more than what I can't have,
You are so gorgeous it makes me so mad.
You make me so happy, it turns back to sad,
There's nothing I hate more than what I can't have.
Guess I'll just stumble on home to my cats,
Alone.
Unless you wanna come along.”

He did came along and we…”

“Stop! Please! I don’t wanna know what happened.” Draco interrupted her covering his ears.
“Did this Barty Crouch and your father dated?” Tonks asked.
“No, he had to go back to England the following day, something about working in his father business.”
“So, he’s your father?”
“I mean, maybe…”
“What do you mean maybe?”
“There’s more.” Cassie turned a few pages and started reading again.

“July 4th
What a night!
I never thought a business party with Narcissa could be so fun.
I met this guy, Evan Rosier.
Oh, Evan Rosier.
Can't remember what song it was playing when we walked in,
The night we snuck into a yacht club party,
Pretending to be a duchess and a prince.
He said, “Look at you, worrying too much about things you can't change.
You'll spend your whole life singing the blues if you keep thinking that way"
He was trying to skip rocks on the ocean, saying to me
"Don't you see the starlight, starlight?
Don't you dream impossible things?"
Like, "Oh, my, what a marvelous tune"
It was the best night, never would forget how he moved.
The whole place was dressed to the nines,
And we were dancing, dancing,
Like we're made of starlight, starlight,
Like we're made of starlight, starlight.
Ooh-ooh, he's talking crazy.
Ooh-ooh, dancing with me.
Ooh-ooh, we could get married,
Have ten kids and teach 'em how to dream."

“Woah, I’d never imagined your dad saying something like this.” Luna exclaimed.
“He was probably pissed.” Draco said while distractedly watching his phone.
Luna punched him in the arm “Why do you always have to ruin everything? Just because you don’t believe in love doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”
Draco scoffed and turned the attention back to his phone.
“Well,” Cassie defended him “he was drunk. And he wrote that after what happened that night both of them ignored each other for a few days. Then he left and my father never saw him again.”
“Why are our parents so dramatic?” Tonks scoffed “So, the option is between Barty Crouch and Evan Rosier, shouldn’t be too hard.”
“Actually,” Cassie contradicted her “there’s one more.”
Draco was shocked “MORE? Woah, never knew uncle Reg was so easy in his teenage years.”
All the others punched him in the arm.
“I mean, please, Cassie, tell us more.”
Cassie flipped a few more pages.

“July 9th
What a night!
This guy got lost in the island, so I thought I’d give him a tour.
We spent all day long talking about each other.
He’s so smart, so handsome, so dreamy.
He’s studying to become a professor in London.
Professor Remus Lupin, has a nice ring to it.
I knew he had to leave but why can’t we have a little bit of fun before?
I took him home with me and, GOD.
His hands are in my hair, his clothes are in my room.
And his voice is a familiar sound.
Nothin' lasts forever,
But this is gettin' good now.
He's so tall and handsome as hell;
He's so bad, but he does it so well.
And when we've had our very last kiss
My last request is:
Say you'll remember me,
Standin' in a nice dress,
Starin' at the sunset, babe;
Red lips and rosy cheeks,
Say you'll see me again
Even if it's just in your
Wildest dreams.

I just know all his students are gonna be very interested in his lessons.”

Cassie closed the diary “That’s it.”
“So one of them is your father.”
“Well, can’t be the professor, at least some of his brain should has got to you. Genetically.” Draco joked.
“Shut up!” Luna said exasperated.
“I’m trying to light up the mood.”
“It’s not the time to joke around! This is serious.”
“No, I am.” A well known black haired man said, peaking his head in the room.
“Uncle Siri!” Cassie exclaimed running to hug her uncle.
Luna, Draco and Tonks thought that was their cue to leave, so they said goodbye to their friend and went to their rooms.
“Weren’t you suppose to arrive tomorrow?” She asked.
“I just couldn’t wait!” He said squeezing her once again “The others arrive tomorrow though, they can barely contain their excitement.”
“So, kiddo, are you ready for your big day?” He asked ruffling her hair.
“Honestly, it’s still hard for me to understand I’m actually getting married.”
“Don’t tell me. I think your father is about to get a ictus.”
They both laughed.
“What’s so funny in here?” The other Black brother asked entering the room.
“The fact that you’re more stressed than me about the wedding, dad.” His daughter replied.
“Speaking of which, I say we leave the bride to be rest. We don’t want the guest seeing you with ugly eye bags.” Said Sirius taking his brother out of the room.
“Nothing could ever make her ugly.” Regulus argued.
“If she looks like you, yes, she can.” Sirius laughed.
“Goodnight, love.”
“Night, Cassie.”
“Goodnight, dad! Night, uncle Sirius!” She shouted before closing the door.
She sat on her bed, opening the diary one more time, reading the pages his father wrote about the only man he truly loved but that couldn’t have possibly be his father.

August 15th
I told James I’m staying here in Greece.
These months here have been amazing and I know this is it.
This is the perfect place for my hotel.
He wanted to stay with me, but he can’t.
I told him it didn’t matter, I didn’t want him to come.
This is something I have to do by myself.
No Sirius, no James.
Just me.
He was heartbroken, I could see it even if he tried to hide it.
We know each other too well not to realise when the other’s faking.
But I can’t let this stop me.
Effie always says that ours is true love, well, if that is true, we’ll find our way back to each other.
We already did once, I’m sure we can do this again.
We can do this.

September 20th
Yesterday I found the courage to call James.
It had been more than a month since our last conversation and I couldn’t keep going like this.
I miss him, I miss him so much.
I didn’t tell him, obviously, but there was no need.
He knows.
He said he misses me too, and that he can wait, he can wait for me.
Oh, James, how can I be so selfish to make you wait when I don’t even know what I’m doing here, or how long is it gonna take for me to figure it out?
I can’t, it’s not fair.
Not to him or to me.
So I told him not to wait, to live his life and let me live mine.
On our own paths.
He was suffering, I know he was.
He didn’t try to hide it this time.
But I love him too much to make him suffer all his life waiting for something I don’t know when I’ll be ready to give it to him.
I’d rather making him suffer now, because it’ll pass, he’ll be okay.
He’ll find someone who’ll love him, how can he not?
He’s so handsome.
So funny.
So kind.
So… lovable.
He’s James.
He’s my James.
And I’m his Reggie.
He’ll be okay.
We’ll be okay.

October 15th
James started dating someone.
But not just anyone.
Lily fucking Evans.
Out of all people, it had to be Lily Evans.
The girl he had a crush in school.
The girl he’s been in love with for years.
The girl I tried so hard to be just so he could love me.
She never liked him, she always rejected him, why now?
If she couldn’t see how amazing he was back then, she can’t just have him now.
It’s not fair.
She can’t do this.
She doesn’t deserve him.
She doesn’t deserve to go on cute romantic dates he set up just ‘cause he wanted to do something nice.
She doesn’t deserve the cuddling after a bad day.
She doesn’t deserve him bringing her her favourites snacks when she has her period.
She doesn’t deserve Effie’s homemade meals.
Or his homemade meals.
She doesn’t deserve anything he can and will give her.
And it’s my fault, because I let him go.
I set him free.
If I didn’t, she wouldn’t had a chance.
He’d still be my James.
Not hers.

November 27th
She’s pregnant.
She’s pregnant with James’ child.
She’s going to have a little James running around the house.
And if that wasn’t already enough, they’re getting married.
He told me when I called Sirius last night.
I couldn’t bring myself to speak.
I just hung up.
James is going to have the life he always wanted.
He’s going to have that because of me.
Because I told him not to wait for me.
Because I wanted him to have that life.
Because I wanted him to be happy.
I wanted him to.
And now, I’m not happy.
I can’t.
I’m trying to be happy, at least for him.
I really am.
But I can’t help but wondering what would have happened if I didn’t let go.
Would I be his "wife"?
Would I carry his children?
Before, it was a possibility.
Now, it’s just a “maybe”.
I broke his heart 'cause he was nice.
He was sunshine, I was midnight rain;
He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain;
He wanted a bride, I was making my own name;
Chasing that fame, he stayed the same,
All of me changed like midnight.

July 31st
Today, at 09.27 AM, Harry James Potter was born.
A healthy baby, with his mother’s eyes.
He’s beautiful.
At least that’s what Sirius told me.
I still haven’t seen the picture James sent me.
It’d just make the situation more real.
I can’t bare to look at the happy family.
The family that should have been mine.
It’s not fair.
She’s there playing house with him, being his lovely wife, while I’m working my ass off just so I can be taken seriously by this misoginist, transphobic assholes.
It came like a postcard,
Picture perfect shiny family,
Holiday peppermint candy;
But for him, it's every day.
So I peered through a window,
A deep portal, time travel
All the love we unravel,
And the life I gave away.
'Cause he was sunshine, I was midnight rain.

It’s my fault.
James is gonna be happy with Lily, while I’ll be here alone.
They’re gonna raise Harry together, and be the perfect family.
And I’m going to try and gave my child everything they might need, even without their other dad.
Because today, at 12.45 PM, I discover that I’m pregnant.
I’m gonna have a baby.
And it won’t be James’.
I guess life is full of surprises.
