Enji groaned, slamming his head on his desk. He had a lot of work to do, and he is very tired. He is currently studying a few weeks in advance for math and science. The overwhelming need to be the best overtook his rational thinking. He bit at his nails, his fingertips throbbing painfully. He'd been at this for the past week.
"Enjii!" The exuberant voice of Toshinori shouted, he burst through the door of his room. His radiant personality seemingly lighting up the rather dim room. Enji groaned, head slumping down as he turned to face Toshinori, he had already gotten Enji in trouble by messing with him, making his flames touch the ceiling and set off the fire alarms as he fumed, they both went to the principal's office that day.
"Whatever you want can wait." The redhead sat up, the disapproval of his unexpected visitor was clear as day. But the dumb oaf didn't get the hint, or he just didn't care. Toshinori looked over Enji's shoulder, looking at the desk. A hint of concern blanketed his face, smile dropping. "Are you still studying? Toshinori walked carefully over to the desk, taking a look at the stacks of notes.
"Yeah, so what? It's none of your business what I'm doing." Enji scowled, lightly shoving Toshinori out of the way. Toshinori only shoved back with his hips playfully. "Well, I just wanted to know if you wanted to–" "No, the answer is no" Enji spoke harshly, immediately responding "What, you didn't even-" Toshinori whined "No." Enji glared at him, making the meanest expression he could.
Toshinori groaned, throwing his head back dramatically. He spun around, flopping onto the full size mattress. Every time Toshinori came in here he acted as if this was his room, too. "Get up, you idiot." Enji strode over to the bed, poking at him. Toshinori shook his head, lying face down into the sheets. Enji sighed, picking up the other man's head–
"Hey, quit chewing on my sheets, dumbass!" Toshinori smiled with his lips still enclosed around the blanket. He shook his head "Not 'ntil 'yah listen t' me." Enji let go of his head, Toshinori face planting onto the bed. "Fine, what is it?" He spoke angrily, the glowering expression on his face never left. The ridiculousness of Toshinori seemed to be never ending.
Enji's face twisted in annoyance, Toshinori finally sat in a normal position on the bed. "Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go watch movies I got at my place! My mentor gave me some" Toshinori tilted his head and stared at Enji earnestly "You think I want to waste my time doing something so frivolous?" Enji pointed a finger at him, the anger on his face prominent.
Toshinori laughed, a loud, boisterous laugh that made Enji's want to hurl. It was nails on chalkboard to him. "I just thought it would be nice for you to relax a bit, since you've only been studying these few weeks" He did jazz hands as he spoke, smile still plastered on his face "Yeah, I have. Did you study at all?" The redhead poked his chest, Toshinori's smile got impossibly wide. "Yeah, but I made time to enjoy myself too, y'know" Toshinori sighed "And I enjoy being the best, so leave me so I can keep studying."
"But you're already the best" Enji blushed at the accidental compliment, or was it on purpose...? "But I could be even better." Toshinori groaned rolling onto his back, before going to chew the blanket again. "God damnit, stop doing that you asshole!" Enji tried to lift him off the bed, arms behind his knees and upper back. But he weighed nearly 220lbs already, he had so much muscle for his age it was ridiculous.
"Alright! I'll go, I'll go!" Enji would do anything just to get Toshinori off his back, and leave him in peace.
Toshinori smiled, sitting up and letting go of the slightly wet blanket. Enji made a mental note to wash it later to get out the 'stupid himbo germs'. Toshinori tumbled off the bed, running to the bedroom door. Enji followed mumbly and cursing under his breath, Toshinori either didn't notice it or didn't care enough to comment on it...
Enji slipped his shoes on, noticing that the blond never took off his own, tracking a bit of dirt into Enji's apartment room. He groaned at the sight. "I'll help you clean that when we get back!"

In total, Enji spent about 9 hours at Toshinori's house. Toshinori made him watch odd American movies, made in the 60's–80's, mostly consisting of cheap horror. Enji was sure he gained at least 5 pounds with how much food the bumbling blond gave him that day. It lasted from 1pm to 11pm till he went back to his apartment building, he only got the apartment room due to the overbearing nature of his parents, the yelling at every single thing he did was too much. He couldn't even go outside without them yelling at him.
"You aren't staying over, Yagi." Enji barked, he spoke with obvious malice. Toshinori stood still at the door. "Why not?" He gave a look of genuine confusion, tilting his head, blue eyes looking at him longingly. It sparked a feeling he couldn't explain, it made him... Scared. Enji quickly slammed the door shut, confusion washed over his body for a reason he couldn't discern.

One year later.
Enji sighed, tapping his pencil against his paper. Enji moaned in disappointment, he had been at this for hours. But he couldn't focus, he has been at this for hours and kept re-reading the same page. He turned his attention to the alarm clock next to him. It read 19:00, Enji decided to start learning military time a few weeks ago.
He heard his phone ring, it was probably Toshinori again. He had been visiting Enji every other week, always taking him out to his house, less populated restaurants, or simply at Enji's own house. He answered the phone, a loud voice coming through from the other end. "Hey Enji! Do you want to hang out today?" Enji smiled, he was actually looking forward to their time together.

Four hours later.
Enji slid into his house slippers, dragging his feet heavily to his room. Toshinori had invited him to watch more movies, but his attitude seemed... Off. He was more touchy, too.
Enji felt an arm slip around his waist, pulling him closer as a head fell onto his lap. Toshinori spread out across the rest of the 3 seat couch. The flame-wielder only watched as Toshinori fell asleep, eyes hidden from his view. It was mostly just a rewatch of the movies they first watched together.
But Enji didn't mind, he actually enjoyed it. Though one look to his face might've given off the opposite impression, a resting inscrutable expression. He would always act as if he hated everything Toshinori did, but truly, he found it amusing. It felt... Nice to have someone there.
Enji was like a well, a deep, stone and brick pit with his emotions sitting deep at the bottom, but Toshinori is scooping it up, bringing his true feelings to light, even if the fiery bricks burned him.
Enji walked into his room, sitting down at his desk with a sigh, his work sat untouched. He resumed at the task. Someway, somehow, he got a better understanding now...

The present.
Enji groaned, looking down at his work. He remembers those times. Compared to now, it felt like a dream. Toshinori had attempted to contact him, but he shut him out. And his pride wouldn't let him go back. Enji looked at his phone, seeing one unopened message from Toshinori.
