lydia's jungle book

Chapter 1: Not yet, perhaps

Chapter Text

It was dusk in the jungle. Lydia, age 19 sat on the bank of a river washing her hair. It had grown well past her hips in the years she’d lived in the jungle.

“bageera’s paranoid- im perfectly fine here.” she huffed to herself as she squeezed water from her dark thick hair. She enjoyed the ambiance of her home as she continued “ive done no harm- shere khan has no reason to harm me.”

“not yet perhaps.” a smooth deep voice spoke from somewhere in the bush. Lydia paused and then raked a hand through her hair “it’s you isnt it?” if she was startled she refused to show it. Shere khan came out from the lush greenery.

“my my I imagined you’d at least be surprised.” shere khan mused, sauntering over to sit next to lydia. “I knew youde come to see me- bageera thinks you’ll kill me.” she said rather bluntly. Shere khan nodded along and hummed in response. “that is the idea. But it seems you had a different outcome in mind, human girl.” he was willing to entertain the human.

Lydia paused and then turned to face shere khan, sitting up tall. “I’ve done no harm to the jungle. None at all.” she announced.

Shere khan froze a moment. “like I said. Not yet perhaps. But youre a human and theyre dangerous- they kill us jungle dwellers.” he regained composure.

“oh yeah? How many of their women, like myself. Have done that? Its always soldier men isnt it? And I am not one!”lydia retorted hautily. “so you can forget about doing a single thing to me, your highness.”

“at least youre a rather polite, human. So youre saying you should get a pass?” khan scratched his chin with his sharp claw. “I suppose I am.” lydia said, a bit shyer about the idea.

Shere khan thought on it…

“...well I suppose for now ill leave you be.” he sighed before standing up ,stretching and slinking off “but dear lydia…youde better remain on best behavior.”
