Their friendship or whatever you could call what this was at the very least — continued after they'd met again by the chance of Kino starting to attend the school as well. Shin shouldn't have remembered him but he did recognize him by his scent in particular. So while Shin may have forgotten Kino in his mind, his sense of smell hadn't.
"You—" and Kino smiled at him. "See I told you we'd meet again."
Shin wants to punch him upon remembering everything in that stupid scenario that Kino had pulled but he also has to thank him because while the situation may have been erased to everyone else in the end, he did help him get his brother back in that scenario. Shin hadn't gotten the chance to thank him and he refused to be in Kino's debt.
"Aha, is that all? It's not like any of that stuff matters anymore right?" but in a way Kino is also grateful because while he's had Yuri all his life — he's never really had a friend either or at least he insists he's Shin's friend after everything and it isn't like Kino will leave Shin alone, so it's something he reluctantly accepted in the end.
It's probably a good thing he has someone other than his beloved brother but that isn't something Shin will admit.
"Isn't it funny? A founder and a vampire being friends? Though, you should be grateful to be friends with the zero prince himself—" that and Kino still could be as irritating as ever. "Ah?! No it should be the other way around!"
Kino just laughs and tugs on Shin's arm. "Hey, hey, wanna come with me downtown? I gotta get this special bonus they're giving out for one of my games, it'll be way more fun if you come."
Shin thinks about it for a moment, he doesn't really get the appeal of microtransactions and game upgrades, and whatever Kino goes on about that sounds like he's summoning Satan from the depths of hell. It isn't like he has anything better to do though until he has to be home before Carla begins to worry.
"Whatever, fine, there's a little shop I've been meaning to check out near there anyway that has high quality nuts." and of course he should've expected Kino to run his mouth. "Haven't you heard about the new nuts they've got called bofa?"
Shin is going to regret asking he really is but he asks anyway just because Kino's shit eating grin won't leave his face if he doesn't. "What? Bofa?'
"Bofa deez nuts," Kino snickers.
"You're so!! You're so damn irritating!" He goes to punch Kino but he started running away from him. "Aha come on!! Not my fault you fell for it! Ah! Stop trying to hit me already!"
One deserved punch to Kino later and they've made it downtown. Shin is far more familiar around here since he does the shopping and errands. So most of the time he's less likely to get lost unlike his brother (though that's something he knows Carla wouldn't admit to.)
While Kino is preoccupied with the gaming store he's headed off into and because Shin is definitely not waiting in line with him, he decides he'll meet up with him after he's gotten his nuts he wants to buy.
Shortly after they've both done their own shopping and Kino shoving the sparkling card with the code for his game on it in Shin's face later ... they're just walking together around the city as he listens to Kino rambling on about one of his in game purchases.
Something Shin never really foresaw is how much he actually ends up hanging out with Kino nowadays. He's still learning to let someone be properly close to him. It's always just been him and Carla. That's what he's always told himself he's needed and was fine with but it isn't that bad having another person around even if he and Kino differ so drastically from each other. That and something Shin wouldn't voluntarily admit to is that he sort of enjoys the latter's company. Especially when Kino forces him to try his PvP games and he gets a bunch of kills in them and Kino stares at him like he's the most amazing person ever and praises him.
It's beginning to dawn now and he should definitely head back now. "You're going to download the game I told you to right? You should try and get on the leaderboard and beat my score~!"
Shin says he won't do that and that he has no interest in it but Kino knows he'll end up trying in the end. "Eh?! Really? Not even if I persuade you?" He waves the jar of peanut butter around.
"When did you have time to grab that!?" Shin hisses as he eyes the jar. "Also hell no! I'm not so easy to fall to a simple temptation like that!"
Then Kino begins to open the jar and stick his fingers in there and lick the peanut butter off his fingers he then proceeds to do the worst thing imaginable and promptly shove his fingers at Shin. "Hm? Why? It tastes fine, I don't see the problem?"
Kino then shoves one finger forcibly in Shin's mouth to insist he taste the peanut butter. Shin on impulse of pure annoyance promptly then bites said finger. Now it's a mix of Kino's blood and peanut butter coating his mouth.
"Kuh... what the hell Kino?!" Shin coughs as he swallows and Kino withdraws laughing.
"I should be saying that, you're the one that bit me, feisty!" Kino feigns hurt because the saliva from Shin's mouth has already healed the little bite mark anyway.
"Because you shoved your finger in my mouth?!"
"Yes. And it was funny!"
Surprisingly Kino's blood doesn't taste that horrible. It has a taste of sweetness but also bitterness. "You're such a pain in the ass," Shin says and Kino just grins cheekily and says "thanks!"
"anyway, yeah, yeah, take my gift, kay'?"
Kino hurriedly shoves the jar of peanut butter at Shin shortly after. "You think I want something your fingers have been in?!" but still Shin takes it anyway.
"Not my fault you're easy to mess with," Kino snickers and narrowly avoids a swat from Shin. Normally you would want to avoid pissing a founder off but Kino likes to press his luck far to often with Shin.
Kino just doesn't fear Shin like any other normal vampire should. Kino just shrugs it off. Maybe because Kino is also a prince so he gets it or maybe Kino is just weird, Shin doesn't know.
"I'm going home now," Shin says as he begins walking off. Kino waves him off and makes sure he takes the peanut butter jar with him. "Okie dokie, bye, bye!"
Shin makes it back home and idly looks at the jar he's been given. Shin isn't quite sure what to make of his friendship with Kino but it isn't bad.
Carla interrupts his thoughts however. "Oh? Did you go shopping?" Shin isn't really sure how his brother would feel about him being friends with Kino. It isn't like he's hiding it though, and Carla is perceptive. Shin wonders if on some level he already knows.
"Yeah, sort of," Shin says.
Carla isn't one to point out such a thing but he's definitely noticed that Shin seems ...happier? in a better mood over all lately as well. "is it because of that vampire?"
In a way, Carla loathe their kind as he may, when he's gone he doesn't want his younger brother to be all alone.
"Ah?! What do you mean brother? Who?" Shin plays absolutely dumb because on some level he's kind of terrified that Carla will be angry.
"It isn't hard to notice the stench of a vampire, you know that much Shin." Shit, shit, shit. Shin worries what his brother thinks of this deep down even if he's slowly moved past some deep insecurities since then. Shin isn't sure what to say. What can he say?
"You look as if I'm going to punish you? I may not like their kind but I am not so close minded," Carla tells him and then pauses and looks at his brother once more. "You're my younger brother, Shin and ... as long as you are happy..."
Shin stares for a moment. "Who are you and what have you done with my brother?!" he says in disbelief.
"Do not make me repeat myself. That is all I will say on the matter." Carla pats his brother's shoulder and begins walking off leaving Shin all the more confused. Well it could've gone a lot worse he thinks.
Though it isn't like Shin is doing anything wrong. Sure he's supposed to continue the founder race with his brother but there's only Yui for that potential left.
Besides he's just friend's with Kino.
Plus Kino is irritating, a pain in the ass and so many other things Shin can think of. That's what he tells himself at least as he looks at the gift of peanut butter from Kino.
