"Okay, but what if I forget to put on my dress? And all these stuffy nobles laugh?"
"Hapi, my love, you are already dressed. You look beautiful, I assure you."
Hapi takes another bite of the pie Dedue baked for her. She sits on the counter, the entire pie tin in one hand, a fork in the other. Dedue takes her empty coffee cup, leaning in to kiss her hairline as he does. The smell of freshly brewed grounds meets her just before the warm, full cup finds her waiting hands again.
"Thank you, Dewdrop." She takes a long, grateful sip, barely holding in her sigh as she does. "This may be dangerous."
"I'd protect you from the monsters." Dedue says as he checks the second pie baking in the oven. "Though I know I don't need to," he adds before she can say it herself. Her grin flashes by before a worried frown steals it once again.
"I mean, I'm not worried, you know? I know I seem worried, but I'm not. All I gotta do is explain my story, get these guys to believe me, and suggest a plan of action to chase down our super-invisible-probably-really-strong-enemy." She chomps on too big bite of pie. Dedue watches her worriedly as she chokes it down and chases it with a chug of coffee.
"I think you should slow down, dear." Dedue says gently. "Everything will be fine. His-Dimitri will be there. I'll be there. We won't let anything happen to you. And we believe you. The others will, too."
"But what if I sigh? What if I bring in a whole bunch of monsters? What if I destroy the castle? What if-"
Dedue's lips are on hers, his hands on her hips. Eyes closed, he lingers long, warm, and languid until Hapi hums, leaning into his embrace, taking him in, letting her thoughts settle until they're only of warmth, her Dewdrop, and the sweetness of berries and bitterness of coffee.
When they break, they take their time to pull away. Hapi can feel Dedue's smile, slight and careful against her own.
"What was that for?" she whispers against his lips, almost a sigh but full of joy. "To get me to stop worrying?"
He chuckles. "Partially. I also couldn't help to notice that the berries have turned your lips blue. I thought it would help my lady if I were to take some of her 'blues' away."
That draws a laugh so bright out of Hapi, she herself can't believe it came from her. "Dewdrop! Unlike you to wax poetic." She leans forward, wrapping her arms around Dedue's shoulders. "Well, you know what they say about kissing before an important event."
He lifts a humored brow, though he does his best to maintain a stoic frown.
"Once is poor luck, Dewdrop! You have to kiss at least three times for good luck. The more the better, though."
He smiles, leaning forward to give his lady all the luck she desires.
