Summary
When Henry does not return from an errand to Kuttenberg, Hans sets out determinedly from the Devil's Den to find him. Loath as he is to ask Sam for help, Hans has to admit he'll need someone who knows the city. As they search together, Hans and Sam, joined eventually by Katherine, uncover a strange mystery bloodier than they could have imagined.

“Are you always this sensitive?” Henry whispered with astonishment and delight.
“I don’t know,” Hans answered helplessly. “With you touching it… my- my whole body feels different all of a sudden.”The unfamiliar feeling of being with someone who cares about him leaves Hans feeling unexpectedly vulnerable and anxious. When he and Henry finally have privacy after the siege to be together, he starts to panic. So Henry takes it slow and carefully helps him settle into the feeling of being loved.

Henry expected his stint as Lord Capon’s champion in the Rattay Tourney would be a one-off humiliation. To his dismay, his lord insisted he keep trying, even as he faced defeat after defeat.
When finally fed up, Henry demands training from Sir Hans, but neither of them expects what more would grow out of their sparring, leading them both down a path of quiet yearning and unearthing feelings best left buried.

Sam has finally managed to get some one-on-one time at the Devil's Den with his newly found and ever-busy brother, Henry. What better way to get to know the man his father raised than by sharing a few ales and even more adventurous tales? However, Sam soon learns that Henry has a penchant for longwinded, overly detailed and convoluted story-telling. As their conversation turns onto the topic of some potion, Henry sets off on quite the second-hand account of his bold Sir Hans Capon's amorous adventures - though as Sam will come to learn, it might not be as second-hand as he would have preferred.

Suchdol lies behind, and a wedding ahead.
After the harrowing events of the last few months, an uneasy peace has settled over Bohemia; Sigismund of Hungary has retreated back to the east, and the League of Lords obey the terms of truce, for now. With the war on hold, the Devil's Pack is recalled to Rattay for a celebration — a union between the Lords of Poděbrad and Lipá, rendered through the marriage of one Hans Capon to Jitka of Kunštát. And while Henry and Hans struggle with the aftermath of Suchdol, war waits for no one.
