Summary
When Henry does not return from an errand to Kuttenberg, Hans sets out determinedly from the Devil's Den to find him. Loathe as he is to ask Sam for help, he has to admit he'll need someone who knows the city. As they search together for Henry, Hans and Sam, joined eventually by Katherine, uncover a strange mystery bloodier than they could have imagined.

“Are you always this sensitive?” Henry whispered with astonishment and delight.
“I don’t know,” Hans answered helplessly. “With you touching it… my- my whole body feels different all of a sudden.”The unfamiliar feeling of being with someone who cares about him leaves Hans feeling unexpectedly vulnerable and anxious. When he and Henry finally have privacy after the siege to be together, he starts to panic. So Henry takes it slow and carefully helps him settle into the feeling of being loved.

Hans stepped into the clearing, sticks crunching under his feet. He waved behind his back to get Henry to calm down.
“Hans!”
Hans stopped. He turned around to face Henry, with a stunned smile on his face. He coaxed his expression into a lightly amused mask and took a step forward. “Well… my friend—” he said, and there was a loud crack, like a tree branch breaking off or a sharp thunderclap, and Hans was gone.

Hans falls in a frozen pond during a hunting trip and Henry pulls him out. Soaking wet, freezing and lost in the forest they have to huddle up and hope to survive the night.
