Take me back to the night we met

Summary:

“Are there some left in the kitchen?” Jake asked Heeseung, and the older one only shook his head.

“Sorry, Jake. I had initially planned on only making some for myself, but Sunoo joined me in the kitchen, and the batter was enough for both of us.”

“Oh.” Jake deflated, puppy eyes drooping in disappointment.

Sunghoon’s heart stopped for a beat. “I can make you some, Jake! Do- do you want me to make you some pancakes?”

Sunoo looked up, eyes dulled. Sunghoon was blushing a little bit, and Jake giggled like a schoolgirl. They looked domestic together, honestly.

“I’ll help! Let’s prepare something together!” Jake stood up enthusiastically and held tightly onto Sunghoon’s hand.

“Whatever you wish for.” Sunghoon murmured, letting Jake pull him into the kitchen.

Sunoo kept staring, even as they had long vanished into the little kitchen. He had lost his appetite anyways.

Chapter 1: I am not the only traveler

Chapter Text

“Shut up for once, please!” Jungwon yelled out, groaning into his pillow. He smashed his head repeatedly into said pillow, slowly but surely having enough of the two lovebirds. Sunoo and Sunghoon, who were both hidden underneath Sunoo’s blankets, only giggled like schoolgirls.

“Jungwon hyung is right. I can’t sleep, and we have to get out early tomorrow! Be freaking considerate for once!” Riki groaned, feeling himself losing all his patience.

Look, he was okay with whatever was going on between Sunghoon and Sunoo. Every person with two functioning eyes could see that they were totally and completely head over heels for each other, and that was fine. It truly was. The only thing the teenager had a problem with was the fact that the other two were truly never leaving their honeymoon phase.

They’d giggle with each other, make each other blush (for this one it was mostly Sunghoon teasing Sunoo), and stick to each other like glue. They were so in love. But whenever they were asked, they’d deny whatever was going on, stating that they were ‘just friends’. Who were they even trying to fool at this point?

And as if that wasn’t enough, the two of them have completely forgotten that a concept called ‘sleep’ and ‘resting’ exists, meaning they were hella noisy and annoying at night.
This in return made Jungwon and Ni-ki unable to sleep, as the four of them still shared a room.

Riki was already starting to question when they’d all get their own rooms- what was BeLift waiting for??

Because he could swear, if he was subjected to the two’s giggles and whispers one more night, he’d riot. He was truly at the end of his wits.

Sunghoon poked his head out from underneath the blanket, looking across the room to the other bunk beds. “We’re not even that loud, don’t be so crabby.” He rolled his eyes, and Jungwon sighed as he heard Sunoo giggle somewhere behind Sunghoon.

This line was the default by now, he heard those exact same words every night. How come Sunoo still found them entertaining?

“You’re insufferable.” The leader huffed, before turning around and hiding under his own blankets. He pulled out his earphones from underneath his pillow (he kept them there automatically at this point), put on some relaxing rain sounds with piano music, and closed his eyes.

Riki, too, tried everything he could to ignore the sounds, but he had troubles coming to rest because of that. His body kept moving and he was really wishing to be someone else right now. Preferably Heeeung, who had a whole room to himself.

Judging from how he knew the older, he probably wasn’t asleep now anyways, way more occupied with playing league of legends or FIFA. Ni-ki played with the thought of rushing over to Heeseung’s room for a bit. He wouldn’t want to disturb his hyung.

“Sunghoonie! Stop that!” Sunoo’s voice sounded through the room, a loud and clear giggle following afterwards. Only God knew what those two were doing underneath the covers.

Ni-ki sighed and stood up, grabbing his pillow and blanket. Heeseung hyung would surely understand, right?

“Wakey wakey, Sunshine.” A smooth voice whispered, and someone was softly shaking Sunoo’s shoulder, successfully pulling him out of his dream world and into reality. The boy blinked a few times, taking his time to arrive in the here and now.

The first thing he noticed was that his bed felt empty, meaning there was a lot of free space next to him. Where had Sunghoon gone? Without waking him up first at that?
Sunoo turned around to look at who woke him up, only to see said boy smiling fondly at him.

It made Sunoo blush, being subjected to such a loving gaze first things first in the morning. This was not what he had expected, and he let out a whine of protest. It made Sunghoon let out an airy laugh.

“Come on, the others are already at the company. It’s just you, me, Heeseung hyung and Jake left.” Sunghoon lightly tugged at Sunoo’s ebony black hair strands and Sunoo sighed out. He was happy he had no schedule today apart from some vocal training some time in the evening.

“Okay, I’ll be getting ready, hyung.” He slurred out, voice still raspy from sleep. Sunghoon only nodded, before he left the younger in peace, deciding to just go and hang with Jake for the meantime.

Sunoo took his time in getting ready for the change, since he could take the liberty to do so today. He retrieved his speaker and connected it with his phone, so he could let his playlist play. He then gathered everything he needed, before he left for the bathroom.

Lengthy showers and a well rounded skincare routine were a rarity nowadays. He only ever found the time to jump into the shower quickly and put on the necessities for his skincare routine, so this change of pace was definitely welcomed.
He let his favorite playlist play and stood under the hot jet of water. Sunoo let out a sigh.

Things were truly working out for him at the moment. Enhypen was doing exceptionally well in the eyes of the public and their fans, the bond with all his members was stronger than ever before too-

Especially Sunghoon hyung. They had gotten awfully close over the span of the last few months, and that’s not to say they weren’t already close before. It’s just- Sunghoon had been way nicer to him, attending to his every need and always making sure Sunoo was well. It made Sunoo feel really cared for, and the fact that the two of them spend almost every minute together nowadays was just an added bonus.

You could say he had developed an itty bitty crush on the older. Sunoo liked Sungoon a lot, everything about him, really. He was attractive, of course, but so were Heeseung, Jay, Jake Jungwon and Riki. His feelings went way beyond physical attraction.

He liked the way Sunghoon looked at him- whenever, wherever. Sometimes he felt the older’s eyes on him, sometimes he didn’t and only noticed when his own eyes found Sunghoon’s. Either way, Sunoo seemed to be that important to Sunghoon to the point of being deserving of the older’s attention, and Sunoo felt oddly pleased at that thought.
He liked even more how Sunghoon handled him, and don’t get him wrong- he didn’t think he was a whole load of work or anything.

It was just, he could see that Sunghoon was extra careful and caring with him and he liked that a lot. They all took care of each other, and that was of great importance to all of them. However, Sungoon checked on Sunoo a tad more often than the others (actually- a lot more often) and Suno couldn’t appreciate all of that more.

He also really liked Sunghoon’s sense of humor, sue him.

He’s heard others complain about it a lot, claiming that it was some really badly executed dad humor, but as long as Sunoo got the jokes and was able to laugh at them too, then that was the only thing that mattered, no?

So yes. He had a small (huge) crush on Sunghoon.

But that was also all there would be to it, he was sure. This was nothing but a little one sided crush that would probably fade after some time, too. Sunoo didn’t really feel like acting on these feelings for multiple reasons.

One, the most obvious reason: rejection. Pretty self explanatory.

Second, their group dynamic was at stake. Let’s say some generous miracle happened and Sunghoon reciprocated his feelings. What would happen should they ever break up? Their contract bound them together for at least another five years.

Third, they were idols. Their jobs demanded everything from them- their sweat, their tears, their devotion, their lives. Where would they find the time to be twosome while hiding all traces and hints of a relationship from the public?

And fourth- no. These three reasons were already highly and diagnostically conclusive in themselves, there was no need to even keep the list going.

Sunoo exhaled, as he was slowly getting ready. He had put on his clothes and he was close to completing his skin care routine. He missed Sunghoon.

Because despite saying and being convinced of all that, that didn’t mean that he couldn’t bask in whatever they had now. That didn’t mean that he couldn’t continue loving Sunghoon in the dark. And it was also because of that love that he seeked Sunghoon’s proximity. He wanted- no, he needed to be close to him.

So Sunoo packed up and dashed out of the bathroom into their shared room, putting his things away. He briefly opened the window to let the room air out, and then he headed for their little kitchen and eating space.

Sunghoon and Jake sat around their dining table, both heads buried in the latters phone. And apparently they were watching something funny, as they both couldn’t stop laughing. Heeseung stood in the kitchen right next to the eating space and he was preparing himself some breakfast.

Sunoo decided not to interrupt Jake and sunghoon, and instead decided to join his oldest hyung in the kitchen.

“Good morning, Sunoo-ya. How’d you sleep?” He looked at Sunoo from the corner of his eyes, and said boy only hummed and nodded.

“I slept okay, Heeseungie hyung. And you?” He retorted, making some light conversation.

“Hm, depends. I think I had good chances of sleeping well enough. Until Riki crashed at mine.”

Sunoo grimaced and blushed. “Ah, I see…”

Heeseung sighed. “Look, Sunoo. I’m happy you and Sunghoon understand each other so well, but don’t you think this is unfair to the others? Jungwon complained this morning too, don’t you think you should try to keep it down?”

And Sunoo wanted to defend himself, say that that wasn’t their intention. That the two of them couldn’t help but be louder at night, since nighttime was the only time they could be undisturbed.
But Heeseung was his hyung, and it wasn’t as easy as it would’ve been, had it been Jungwon or Riki who complained. Besides, he theoretically knew that Heeseung was right anyways.

So he sighed, face scrunched up in regret. “I’m sorry hyung, I’ll- we’ll do better. We’ll keep it down from now on.” He bowed shortly, feeling bad at having received a lecturing from Heeseung.

Heeseung softly shook his head. “It’s okay, Sunoo. I’m not saying that you two can’t do whatever it is y’all do. Just let the maknaes sleep too, okay?”

Sunoo nodded. “Of course, hyung.”

Heeseung gave him a lopsided smile, before he fondly ruffled Sunoo’s hair.

“Want some pancakes, too?” He asked the younger, who only nodded, still not looking at his hyung. Sunoo was too embarrassed.

Heeseung’s chest ached a bit at seeing his favorite dongsaeng look like a kicked puppy. It hadn’t been his intention to upset Sunoo, he could never. For that, he liked the younger too much. So he racked his brain for something, anything, he could say to cheer the other up.

“It’s okay, Sunoo. Really. You should rather tell me about you and Sunghoon. What’s going on there?” He waggled his eyebrows and smirked, seeing the successful blush spread on the younger’s cheeks.

And if it was Sunghoon who made the younger light up instead of him, then so be it. Even though that fact also made him want to tear out his hair.

Sunoo shook his head. “No-nothing at all, hyung! We’re just close friends!”

As if to emphasize that statement, Sunghoon and Jake started laughing out loudly, Jake throwing himself at Sunghoon, who tightened his arm around the other’s waist.

Sunoo looked at them and gulped. Heeseung, after taking in the scene, looked at Sunoo, only to see the younger looking sad and glum once more.

“That’s also fine, Sunoo. Come here, help me with the strawberries.” He lightly pulled the younger closer, wanting to divert his attention from the two handsy 02z.

“Sure, hyung.” Sunoo agreed, doing as told.

While he was busy with cutting the strawberries to his liking, he thought about Sunghoon and Jake. They looked pretty close like that, didn’t they? No, Sunoo shook his head. Sunghoon and Jake had always been close, they had always been best friends. This didn’t have to mean anything; best friends could get touchy and enjoy themselves, couldn’t they?

And if Sunoo was being honest, that wasn’t what bothered him either. It was the fact that ever since he had entered the kitchen Sunghoon hadn’t spared him a single glance, when he would usually already be all over him, doting on him and just being close to Sunoo.

Well, Hoon wasn’t obliged to do any of that, as the two of them were nothing but close friends. But Sunoo had gotten used to it- had learned to love their routine that this morning stumped him. It was a whole 360 to what usually happened, and he couldn’t help but start to overthink about it.

What if Sunghoon didn’t like him anymore? What if Sunghoon didn’t want to be close with him anymore?

In the midst of all the reasons why he couldn’t be together with Sunghoon, he had completely forgotten one: what if he misinterpreted all of Sunghoon’s actions, and the older didn’t see him as anything other than a dongsaeng?

Sunoo sighed out, feeling drained already, so early in the morning.

“Let’s eat, Sunoo-ya. You sound tired, and we can’t have that now, can we?” Heeseung gently pushed him out of the kitchen and into the dining room, carrying a fully loaded plate with pancakes and fruits in his other hand.

Sunoo let the older one do so, and quickly found himself sitting around the table, across from Sunghoon and Jake. Heeseung placed the plate in front of Sunoo, who couldn’t help but inhale the sweet scent. The pancakes looked really good.

As the scent reached the other two, they slowly looked up too, having been oblivious to anything that happened before. Jake sniffed the air, before catching sight of the pancakes. His stomach started grumbling.

“Wow, these look so good…” he whispered, sounding astonished. Sunoo had already dug in, deciding not to spare them any of his time. Heeseung joined the table, having retrieved his own plate.

“Sunoo-ya, you have to eat something. Please finish your food.” Heeseung voiced out, sounding concerned. Sunoo’s usually light and sparkly eyes looked void of any emotion, and it was freaking Heeseung out a bit. He looked so detached.

“I’ve lost my appetite, hyung. I’ll just store them in the fridge for later.” He gave Heeseung a tight lipped smile, before he stood back up with his barely touched plate of food. Heeseung could only watch as Sunoo left for the kitchen.

He hated this whole situation, but what he hated even more than that was how he could do absolutely nothing. There was nothing he could do to help Sunoo, as the younger would surely decline his approaches, and there was nothing he could say to both Jake and Sunghoon.

Sunoo and Sunghoon hadn’t been a couple. There had been no mutual commitment, so therefore there was nothing wrong with the current situation.
But Heeseung had a pair of functioning eyes, and he could see that, to Sunoo at least, there had been more.

So what to do? Jay, Jungwon and Riki weren’t home, so with the remaining four home alone, everything was bound to get awkward.
Heeseung couldn’t have that. So he decided to finish his food quickly. He could come up with a way to cheer up Sunoo afterwards, right?

A clear and loud giggle rung through the entire dorm. “Sunghoonie! Stop that!” Jake spoke, yelling afterwards. Sunghoon laughed too, and soon Jake came dashed out of the kitchen, Sunghoon running after him.
Jake had pancake batter in his face and Sunghoon was running after him with said batter.

Sunoo emerged from the kitchen after them, looking as if he’d received ten punches to the gut. It made Heeseung’s gut cramp up really badly- he wished he could help.

“He didn’t even notice I was there…” Sunoo whispered, voice cracking in between. He didn’t know what happened, which only made things worse actually. He never really noticed, since he had been the sun of Sunghoon’s solar system, but whenever Sunghoon found something to turn his attention to, he’d do so with full dedication.

That meant that he would completely blend out any other things, and instead focus on whatever (or whoever) it was that had caught his attention.

“No.” Sunoo shook his head. He was being irrational. Sunghoon could hang out with whoever he wanted to; they weren’t exclusive after all.

So Sunoo took a deep breath, blocked out the giggles and laughs that resounded through their dorms, and headed for his room. He could spend his time without Sunghoon, too.
Before he could reach though, he heard footsteps behind him, and someone called out his name.

“Sunoo-ya.”

He turned around. It was Heeseung.

“Hyung.” He answered, tilting his head the tiniest bit. What was wrong? He had taken care of his dishes, hadn’t he?

“Do you wanna come to my room? I mean, if you need some company.” He shrugged, trying to come off cool, but one could hear from his voice just how nervous he was.

Sunoo looked at his feet. Honestly? He wanted to head into his room, jump into his bed, hide under the covers and listen to some sad ass music to drown out whatever was going on currently. Then, he’d wake up tomorrow and everything would’ve been a dream, and there was no change between sunghoon and him.

But the probability of that happening was near zero.

So, since that plan was obviously ass, why shouldn’t he be twosome with Heeseung? They had never really been that close, compared to him and other members, but maybe that’s exactly what he needed right now. Someone who wouldn’t ask any questions, but substitute for that second presence he needed so badly right now.

He looked up. “Sure, hyung.” And for better measures, he even sent a little smile Heeseung’s way. The older visibly exhaled, before lightly grabbing onto Sunoo’s wrist and pulling him to his single room.

There were certain times his single room came in handy.

The two of them entered Heeseung’s room, and Sunoo looked around as if he hadn’t ever been in there. Well, he had. Just not as often as maybe Riki or Jake.

The room screamed Heeseung in so many ways. It was tidy but also, kinda, not. Everything had its own place though, and Sunoo really admired that. The room was dark in a way, meaning there was little light from the outside, and all the illumination came from LEDs or little lamps here and there. Typically Heeseung.

Compared to the little dresser for his clothes, Heeseung’s desk was humongous. The boy did absolutely everything there; be it playing video games, recording new music, learning Japanese or playing around with the piano. There was absolutely everything there.

“You can just- uh. Either make yourself comfortable on the bed or…” heeseung scratched the back of his head, feeling suddenly awkward about all of this.

Sunoo huffed out a laugh. “You’re so…” he plopped himself onto the bed, immediately pulling out his phone to occupy himself with something. Seeing as Sunoo had settled in, Heeseung decided to level up his Adventure Rank in Genshin impact. He hadn’t played that one in a long time.

The two were busy with their respective tasks, but nonetheless there was a tranquil and cozy atmosphere around them. It showed that they were comfortable with each other. They didn’t have to talk a lot about insignificant themes, but they could talk to each other nonetheless.

And even if they didn’t- the silence was actually pretty unhurried. None of them felt a great need to change anything about the situation.

“Fuck…” Heeseung whispered, as he kept dying at this one point. It frustrated him. It also piques Sunoo’s interest. Sunoo dropped his phone and decided to just watch Heeseung play.

“What are you doing, hyung?” Sunoo asked, looking at how the little mannequin kept drowning in the water right before it could reach the shore.

“I’m- fuck, I don’t know how to get out of here.” Heeseung spoke, eyebrows drawn together tightly. This was frustrating him, and even more: this was embarrassing to him. He was better than that.

However, Sunoo just hummed and watched him struggle. “Maybe… maybe you can change the character?” He randomly suggested, and Heeseung flushed in embarrassment. He really had to start playing this game more; Adventure Rank 13 was lame.

“You’re right.” He nodded and switched to a blue character, who had ice powers. From there on it was easy for him to get out of the water.

Sunoo grinned, satisfied with himself.

Heeseung turned around to face him, staring at the younger curiously. “Do you play?”

“I don’t. But I see some videos here and there, and some of my friends talk a lot about this game.” He shrugged, and Heeseung nodded
before turning back around.

“You know, If you want to eat something, we can order. That way you don’t have to leave this room and face Sunghoon if you don’t want to.”

Sunoo’s eyes dulled again and he picked his phone back up. Right, he had completely forgotten about the other thing.

“Sure, hyung.” He ended up saying, not wanting to come off as rude.

Heeseung sighed and turned off his gaming computer. He grabbed his phone and sat on his bed, and Sunoo waddled after him, lying down next to his hyung. He placed his head on Heeeung’s lap, and basked in the feeling of fingers threading through his hair and lightly massaging his scalp.

“What are you craving?” Heeseung fondly asked, taking in Sunoo’s angelic features. Sunoo’s eyes were closed, and Heeseung questioned how eyelashes could even grow this fucking long.

“Hm, doesn’t matter. Maybe tteokbokki?” Sunoo sounded hopeful and Heeseung let out a snort.

“Of course. What about mint chocolate ice cream for dessert?”

And Sunoo smiled a real smile after that, even letting out a huff. “You know me too well, hyung. Yes please.”

Heeseung nodded, and got to work. He turned on his phone and visited their regular food website. He added some tteokbokki for Sunoo, some Ramyeon for himself and ice cream. He then turned the phone around, letting Sunoo look over the list.

“Is there anything else you want, sun?”

“Let’s see…” Sunoo squinted his eyes as he took everything in. He then added some coke and put in mint chocolate ice cream pizza
instead of basic ice cream in a cup. “All better.” He smiled, satisfied with his choices.

Heeseung’s face blanched as he saw the changes, and it made Sunoo giggle.

“You better finish this- don’t make me have any of that incredibly stupid invention.” He sounded genuinely scared.

Sunoo only laughed. “Look, hyung. Try it one more time. If you really don’t like it, I’ll let you be once and for all.”

Heeseung immediately shook his head, genuinely frightened at the idea of mint chocolate ice cream pizza. How they were still able to sell this after all this time was a mystery.

Heeseung wasn’t ready for what happened next though. Sunoo looked him dead into the eyes, and made those- those doe eyes that made anyone unable to say anything but yes.

“Pleeeease, hyungie. Pretty please?” He clasped his hands together and pouted, hoping to make Heeseung say yes after all.
And Heeseung was a weak, weak man. Especially when it came to Sunoo. He had always been.

And so, he found himself pushing out a yes through gritted teeth. “Fine, but if I don’t like it, you have to leave me alone, okay?”

And Sunoo smiled the brightest after that, clapping his hands in excitement. “Yes! Thank you, hyung!” Sunoo hesitantly reached out to wrap his arms around Heeseung and pull him into a hug. He felt Heeseung tense against him, and was about to retreat, until he felt Heeseung arms wrap themselves around his waist, pulling him closer.

Those two were never really physical with each other, coming from a multitude of reasons. The most obvious being how neither of them were really fond of skinship. Additionally, they weren’t actually all that close either, meaning that there hadn’t really been any occasions that warranted them hugging each other.

But this? This was nice, Sunoo couldn’t help but think. He enjoyed their proximity, he enjoyed how safe he felt in Heeseung’s arms.

Heeseung, too, found himself basking in the feel of it all. This scene had been nothing more than an imagination for the longest time, so actually getting to live it, made his stomach feel all fuzzy. Sunoo fit into his arms perfectly, and he wouldn’t want to change that for his life.

As they hugged, and even stayed tangled up after that, Heeseung couldn’t help but thank Sunghoon.

One man's misery was another man's fortune, right?
