Chapter Text
Magic
The base substance. Some people have magic - this comes from the soul, is “all about light”, usually manifests as a golden glowing and can be used in several ways.
When someone explores darker parts of magic that they probably shouldn't, their magic can also look black like Ennard's does in Chapter 5 - Don't Make A Deal With The Devil.
Magic reacts to people’s emotions or situations. In Chapter 6 - Memories Of The Past And Curses Of The Present, Jeremy describes his magic as having "developed a fight or flight response, ready to protect Jeremy at a moment's notice." He also says it replays his memories in his head to see how he can use what he's experienced in whatever situation he's in.
One chapter with a lot of information about magic is Chapter 12 - The Beauty Of Magic And The Regret Of A King. In it, Jeremy teaches Mike (and us!) a bit about magic, such as its connection to light and the soul.
Side Note: Magic seems to be corruptible, turning into the Curse (see below).
Memnant
Magic comes from the soul, as we learn in Chapter 12 - The Beauty Of Magic And The Regret Of A King, so taking someone’s magic (if it succeeds) is like taking part of their soul. So when a magic-user is killed in one of Bunny B*tch’s terrifying magic-stealing rooms (which are first revealed in Chapter 11 - The Horrors Of A King And The Decision Of A Prince), the Evilly Evil Man gets a substance called Memnant (a portmanteau of Magic and Remnant coined by Enbunni_Holmns). Father of the Year believes that if he collects enough of it, he can heal himself (getting rid of his curse) and become immortal.
Interestingly enough, despite Willy Wonka’s apparent despair over Mike’s condition, he never thinks to give it to Mikol and heal him.
The Curse/Corrupted Magic/Warped Magic
When the Furry Behind the Slaughter killed Clover (accidentally as he claims or not), his magic turned against him and became corrupted. It now manifests as a purple colour and the rot it causes on I Always Come Back Man’s flesh is the same colour. Corrupted magic reacts to emotion the same way normal magic does (normal magic lol). Most of the information about the Curse comes from Chapter 10 - Curses And Monsters.
Michael has the same/a similar curse. He probably got it through Purple Guy’s attempts to heal him or because he (accidentally?) killed the assassin that almost killed him. It doesn’t seem to affect him as much as Father of the Year’s does, possibly because it’s in an earlier stage or isn’t as concentrated (but it’ll still have the same ultimate effect - death).
