Thomas looked at his phone in confusion. Why would Alexander be leaving him a voicemail on his personal phone? They'd broken up months ago.
Having nothing better to do, Thomas clicked on it and turned it on speaker.
"Hi, it's Alexander. Well, you probably know that. I don't know why I'm calling you."
There was a pause and a shaky exhale of breath before Alexander continued.
"Actually, I do know why I'm calling you. I'm just too scared to say it. But, you know what, I guess I'll say it." Alexander let out a small laugh. "I love you. A lot, actually. I still love you. I love you a lot, and I want to come back home. I-"
He let out a sob before continuing, "I guess I've finally learned my lesson. And- I guess- I'm just tired of spending all my time alone. You're all I ever wanted."
Thomas heard him attempt to stifle another sob.
"You're all I'll ever want."
This time, it was Thomas who let out a sob. Or, maybe, it was both of them.
"It's killing me to be so close to you, yet so far away. I just-I love you. And I'm sorry. Bye."
Thomas was in shock. He didn't know what to do. Of course, he still loved Alexander, but he was with someone else now.
