Mi Milagro - My Miracle
Mirabel Madrigal x Fem!Reader

------------------------------------------------------------
DISCLAIMER:
I definitely do not own Encanto or any of the characters except the beginning part of Y/N's life

Notes:

I already have this on Wattpad but thought I'll see how fanfics go if I put it on Ao3
Actually quite complicated but I'll see

This will be a bit before and during the movie Encanto with some small changes like Mirabel and Pepa's relationship cuz I love them two together. I feel like Pepa would be over-protective of her favourite sobrina. And also Pepa's side of the family

NOTE:
This is my first Encanto fanfic. I have more planned for the future. Oh and anything here in Spanish will mostly from google translate or some from my Spanish class I somehow actually remember. Idk how often I'll post but yeah it's here.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Hey, watch out, little one." A villager called out as a young 4 year old (Y/H/C) girl ran through the crowd of people to get to the market, still wearing her training outfit from earlier.

"Lo siento, Tio Alvaro (sorry). Just in a rush." The young girl answered, giggling.

"It's okay, Pequeña amiga (little friend). Where you heading off to?" The man asked her as he followed her.

"The market. Mama wants me to make her and Papí a fruit bowl before going to bed which is weird since they never go sleep this early." The girl giggled, as the villager's smile dropped slightly.

"Need any help?" He asked, having an idea of what's going on.

"Por favor. Gracias (Please. Thank you)." The young girl said as the man ran after her.

The man took her to the market and helped her buy and pay for all the fruits she needed for her fruit bowl.

"Muchas gracias, señor (thank you so much, señor)!" She thanked him before he could say anything else and then ran home with the bag of fruits. She swung open the front door and got two fruit bowl ready for her parents.

She slowly took them upstairs to her parents bedroom, careful not to drop them. Placing the bowls on the floor first, she stood in front of the door and took a deep breath in and then out. The young girl then abruptly stopped as she heard cough being supressed from the inside, causing her to freeze. She knew her parents wouldn't want her to hear them. She knew they wouldn't want her doing this. They knew their 4 year old daughter was the only one right now to take care of them and was smart enough to do so.

Taking another deep breathe in, she open the door slightly before picking the bowls back up and walking in. And there they were. On separate single beds, face as pale as a white sheet.

"Hola, Mama. Hola Papa. Got you your fruits." She walked in, placing a bowl on each bedside cabinet on the side of each bed before getting on the top of her mother's bed.

"Hola, mi amor." Her mother spoke up, wheezing a little as she did so, resting a hand on her daughter's hair.

"Hola, Y/N. Cómo estás, mi pequeña princesa (How are you, my little princess)?" Her Papa replied, reaching a pale hand to his daughter's.

"Bueno (Good) How are you feeling, is the better question?" Y/N laughed, lightly as did her parents.

"How was your day, mi corazón (my heart)?" Y/M/N asked, as Y/N groaned loudly, dramatically falling back on the bed.

"It was soooo bad. First the target wasn't in the right place so I had to move it and then it wouldn't stay up then I was sooo angry that the arrow wouldn't even go in the bow properly." Y/N rambled out.

"And then I forgot to sharpen my daggers. They were not even sharp enough. And then... Ugh, I hated today." She finished, cutely crossing her arms over her chest as her parents watched intently and chuckled.

"Mi hija, remember what I always say." Y/M/N said to her daughter who sat up with a cute pout.

"Patience is your power." Y/n and Y/F/N said simultaneously.

"I know, I know but.." Y/N started saying.

"No buts. Remember your training. With me and Tia Daniela."

"And me." Y/F/N butted in before his wife lovingly swatted his shoulder.

"Don't worry I won't ever forget." Y/n rolled her eyes.

"You have to be ready, mi hija."

"But ready for what? You don't tell me what I have to be ready for." Her parents exchanged looks before her papa said,

"Mi corazón, you'll know when you're older." Y/n just groaned, once again, falling back on to the bed.

"She has your dramaticness." Y/F/N joked to your mother, who faked gasp.

"How dare you! I am not dramatic." She playfully argued back. Y/n just smiled, remembering the times with her parents before violent coughs broke her out of her daydream. Y/F/N had his hand over his mouth, face swelling, choking up.

"MI AMOR!" Y/M/N managed to wheeze out, hand over her chest, ignoring the fire-like pain inside her.

Y/F/N had his hand over his chest as he cough and cough.

"Papa? Papa!" Y/N screamed as she quickly stumbled off the bed. Y/N's mother tried to get off the bed but was stopped by her daughter.

"Mama, no. Don't." Y/n shouted as she then went to the dresser and got a glass of water and a tissue.

"I have to..." Y/M/N said, before getting interrupted by her own violent cough.

"No. Mama." Y/N eyes filled with tears, trying to fill two glasses of water for her parents, ignoring her shaking hands.

She walked over to her parents and handed a glass to your dad first as your mother still coughed, face loosing its colour.

Y/M/N coughs suddenly stopped as she tried to catch her breath.

"MAMA!" Y/n screamed, pointing to her mother's hand. There was blood smeared around the palm of Y/M/N's hand. Feeling the energy draining out of her, Y/M/N collapsed her head back on her pillow as both her husband and daughter shouted out for her.

"MAMA! YOU HAVE TO STAY AWAKE! PLEASE, FOR ME!" Y/n shouted, watching her mother's eyes drooping tired.

"It's okay, mi corazón (my heart)" her mother wheezed out, both of them not realizing Y/F/N had gone silent until out of the corner of her eye, Y/n saw a hand dropped.

"PAPA! NO!" Y/N shouted, tears running down, going over to him, still noticing his chest rising.

"No, no, no. Why is this happening? I need help. I need help. Tia... Tia." Y/n muttered to herself, before she stopped herself.

"Mama! Papa! Hold on. Please. I'm coming back." She shouted as she ran downstairs and straight out the house. She ran as fast as her 4 year old legs could take her which was fast due to her training.

"Tía Julieta? Please. Help. Please. Tía." Y/n knocked on the door of Casita as Casita flung their door open and took Y/n inside, using the tiles.

Thunder and lightning flashed as Pepa ran out of the kitchen to the courtyard, a black cloud floating above her head with Julieta and Bruno right behind her. The rest of the Madrigal Family stood at the entrance of the dining room; 11 year old Dolores holding a plate of arepas in case, and 9 year old Luisa with 4 year old Mirabel sat on her shoulders and Camilo and Carlos hanging off her arm.

"Y/n? What happened?" Julieta asked, running over to the little girl.

"It's Mama and Papa. They-they were coughing and th-they wouldn't stop and then Mama had b-b-blood on her hands and then Papa's hand dropped and then his eyes were nearly closing and..." Y/n cried, as Julieta hugged her, not caring if her apron was tear stained.

"Take me to them, Y/n. Can you do that for me?" Julieta said to her, wiping her tears, taking her hair out of her face. Y/n didn't answer but pulled away from Julieta, grabbed her hand and ran straight out of Casita.

"Bring those arepas, Dolores. Isa." Julieta told her niece and daughter, who knew exactly what to do. Dolores, Pepa and Bruno ran straight after them with Isabela behind them with Julieta's supplies, the 4 of them spotting Julieta's teal dress and apron in the warm sunset, the 6 of them catching the attention of Tio Alvaro, who's eyes widened and rushed the other way home to his wife.

Y/n got to her house and burst open the front door. She ran upstairs, dragging Julieta with, who was surprised how much strength this little 4 year old had. Y/n opened the bedroom door, leading to a barely breathing Y/F/N and Y/M/N. Julieta ran straight in to help as Y/n stayed back, watching everything. She walked back, processing everything as she hit the wall, sliding down to sit.

4 pairs of footsteps were heard as Pepa, Dolores Isabela and Bruno came running upstairs and through the door. Pepa took the arepas and supplies from her hija and sobrina and went to help. Dolores and Isa took sight of the little girl, sitting against the wall with hot tears streaming down like nothing.

They both went over to Y/n and Dolores put Y/n in her lap, resting her head on her shoulder whilst Isa held her hand. Bruno just decided to sit with his 3 nieces, not knowing what to do, other than put a hand on Y/n's shoulder who cried and cried, Dolores and Isa calming her down.

"Ju... Julieta." Y/M/N called out, as Julieta gave her some water and helped her try eat an arepa. Pepa doing the same to Y/F/N, who seemed to have tears in their eyes too.

"Y/F/N, don't talk. You're too weak." Julieta simply said, trying not to have tears streaming down as her best friend from childhood was on the bed, ready to go.

"Ouch, Juli." Y/M/N chuckled, which lead her violently coughing again.

"Always the same, aren't you." Pepa muttered playfully as she sat on Y/F/N bed, holding his hand. It has always been like that. Julieta and Y/M/N and Pepa and Y/F/N and Bruno and Daniela, Y/M/N identical twin sister. That's how it's always been. The mischief always started with Pepa and Daniela with Y/F/N and Bruno tagging along. Julieta and Y/M/N being the mamas of the group, despite the Y/F/M and Daniela being a year younger than the Triplets.

"Obviously. Wouldn't exactly a good time to change, would it." Y/M/N muttered playfully, smiling at her husband at what might be their last look at each other.

"Y/n... Y/n...Y/n. Where is she?" Y/M/N wheezed out, before coughing violently.

Julieta sat her upright, letting her best friend cough it out.

"She's here. Don't worry." Julieta answered, rubbing Y/M/N back.

"Brin... Bring... Bring her here. Please. Dolores." Y/M/N whispered. Julieta looked towards her sobrina, comforting her other sobrina. Dolores looked up at her Tía once hearing the quiet whisper uttered by Y/M/N.

"Mi pequeña arquera (my little archer), we have to get up now." Dolores said to Y/n who just clung onto her.

Dolores stood up and took Y/n to her mother who Julieta had layed down.

Y/M/N put her arms out and Dolores passed Y/n to her. As soon as she did, the 4 year old layed down on top of her mother with her head on her mother's chest and cried.

"Y/n. Mi hija. Look at me."

"Y/N please."

"Look at me."

Y/n slowly looked up at her mother, E/C eyes filled with hot tears.

"Mi hija, I have something for you."

"Bruno, mi amigo (my friend), can you pass that box with the packages please." Y/M/N managed to say, a hand over her daughter's head as she looked at her husband who looked right back at her as he nodded.

Bruno went to get the box and Isa helped get the 2 packages.

"This, mija, is for you." Y/M/N said as she gestured to the box in Bruno's hand and the packages in Isa's with her head. Y/N eyes widened as she took the packages first, both parents looking on. Julieta lifted her up and placed on the side where Y/M/N wasn't.

The young warrior opened the smaller package and found a new bow and arrow with some black boots and a neatly folded coat to go with it. She opened the bigger package and inside was another bigger bow and arrow, a crossbow, 2 archery arm guards in leather, 2 books, a pair of boots and some jewellery.

Y/n looked up at her parents who both had tears in their eyes and gestured towards the box Bruno held who gave it to her.

Y/N opened the box to find 2 outfits. 1 dark F/C and black archery outfit and new outfit, golden brown, finished with belt in the middle for holding dagger, a rope and a small satchel for spare things with 2 archery shoulder guards in leather. The F/C for a small child and the other outfit for a teenage or an adult. And on top of all that was a note with neatly loopy handwriting, only belonging to her mother, that said,

"Happy 5th birthday, mi hija. You will be the best warrior Encanto will ever have. Do your best to strengthen this town, Mi pequeña luchadora" (my little fighter)

Love from Mama and Papa."

And another one note on top of her mother's outfit that said,

Happy 15th birthday, mi Vida."

Y/N looked up at her mother and father with confusion in her eyes as did Julieta, Pepa and Bruno, them both realizing this had been planned for a while as they shed some tears, wiping before the 4 year old saw.

"But I'm still 4. It's not my birthday yet, Mama."

"We wanted to give it to you early." Y/F/N said, as tears welled up in his daughter's eyes again.

"I need you to promise me something. Okay?" Y/M/N said to her daughter who shook her head.

"No mama. You're gonna be here. You and Papa. You both are gonna be here. With me. You had to be here for my birthday. You're gonna stay. You have to stay. Please, mama." Y/N sobbed, crawling over burying her face into her mother's chest again, the 2 of them not noticing Isabela and Bruno rushing to help a now unconscious Y/F/N.

"Y/N, you know no one lives forever."

"But there's no one to teach me more."

"You have Tia Dani. She'll teach you."

"But she's not you. Or papa."

Y/N sobbed as she slowly lifted her head to look at her father, only to find Bruno performing CPR, taught by his older sister.

"PAPA? PAPA!" Y/N shouted, trying to get off the bed only to have Dolores catch her and hold her clothes, walking away from beds. Y/M/N eyes closed slowly, catching the attention of 2 of her best friends.

"Y/M/N... Y/M/N, no stay awake for me!" Julieta exclaimed, reaching for am arepa.

"Papa.... Papa. Lola, let me go." Y/n shouted, wriggling in Dolores's arms.

"Y/n, calmate por favor. Está bien. Estoy aqui contigo (calm down, please. It's okay. I'm here with you)." Dolores whispered into Y/N's ear, ignoring the ringing pain in her own.

The young 4 year old watched and cried as Isabela and Bruno tried to help Y/F/N.

None of them noticed the weak heartbeat of Y/M/N become weaker until it was no more.

The thumping of a young 4 year old's heart grew louder and louder for both Y/n and Dolores. Sobbing in Dolores's arms as she watched the surrounding became blurry, ears blocked.

"Tia... Tia..?" Dolores whispered to herself mainly, not noticing Y/n heard it as Julieta continued performing CPR.

"MAMA. NOO. MAMA." Y/N screamed, trying to get to her mother, as Dolores held her back. She held her close and to her whilst trying to turn Y/N the other way.

Julieta continued what she was doing, muttering at the same time. Pepa looked at her older hermana with tears in her eyes, with her hands out.

"Juli...?" Pepa said, putting a hand over Julieta's, only to have Julieta shoved it off. She tried again, once again Julieta shoved it off

"Juli... Julieta." Pepa cried out, louder this time, putting her hand again on Julieta's firmly who slowly stopped and looked up at her sister, tears trickling down. Pepa shook her head slightly as she wrapped her arms around her hermana mayor.

Both of them then turned around and saw Bruno and Isabela shaking as Bruno stood. Y/n eyes widened before screaming her heart out, causing Dolores to cry out slightly in pain. Julieta quickly ran over to her sobrina and she took Y/n into her arms. Isabela walked over to her prima and gave her an arepa to heal her ears, before the two of them broke down, holding on to each other.

Pepa and Bruno took one look at their best friends and a black cloud appeared above Pepa's, one she kept in for so long. She broke down over the body of Y/M/N whilst Bruno rushed to his hermana mayor's side, as she leaned her head on his shoulder. Dolores heard a few children screaming and running due to the drastic change in weather and her family back at the Casita wondering what's happening.

Y/n sobbed into Julieta's shoulder as she paced back and forth, whispering in Y/n's ears. Isabela had walked to the door and got a coat hung from the back and walked towards her mother and Y/n. She helped Y/n put the coat on, despite it being really big for her, and went back to Dolores. Julieta continued to comfort Y/n as 2 more pairs of footsteps were heard and Daniela ran in with her husband, Alvaro, hair dripping wet and both still in their training outfit with their bows and arrows still with them. Y/n removed her head from Julieta's shoulder and took one look at her auntie who looked back at her, teary eyed at the sight of her niece's red eyes. But all Y/n saw was her mother. From facial structure to body language. Y/n looked away buried her face again in Julieta's shoulder, wailing louder.

"Tia Juli, I wanna go."

"Shhh, it's okay. I'm here and Tia Pepa and Tio Bruno. We aren't going anywhere."

"Everything will be okay."

Daniela looked at Pepa who still had a black cloud and Bruno then Julieta and her niece, confused. Before Julieta leaves, Daniela couldn't help it and press a kiss to her niece's hair. Julieta held her hand and squeezed it slightly before leaving the room with Y/n in her arms and Dolores and Isabela behind her, on the way to the Casita. Daniela looked towards Pepa and Bruno who had tears marked on their face.

"Pepa... Bruno..." Daniela got cut off by Bruno who had hugged her tightly, apologising profusely.

"Bruno, what's wrong. Please tell me, or I'll chop your hair off." Bruno slightly gasped before releasing Daniela. He moved to the side and that's when Daniela saw. Her sister. Her twin sister, lifeless on the bed.

Back to the Julieta, Dolores, Isabela and Y/n

Dolores covered her eyes in pain as loud, pain gut-wrenching screams echoed in her ears. Isabela was at her side at once with an arepa and Julieta looked at her with concern.

"Dolores, what happened?" Isabela asked her prima.

"Tia Daniela's found out." She simply said.

Chapter Text

"Y/N, mi vida? Can we come in?" Julieta asked as she knocked on Dolores's door, Pepa by her side.

It's been a few weeks since Y/M/N and Y/F/N had passed away due to a random sickness no one knew or knows the cure of. 4 year old Y/N had isolated herself in either Dolores or Isabela's room, only getting out to train. She either stayed with Isabela and Mirabel or Dolores and Mirabel, on some occasions Julieta or Pepa would take her to their room and Y/N will stay with them for the night. Mirabel would stay with Y/N, helping her, and Y/N wanted no one else, except Dolores or Isabela. Maybe Julieta or Pepa. But NO ONE else.

Eat, train, sleep. Eat, train, sleep. Eat, train, sleep was the routine now. She'd keep that promise for her mother.

"Promise me, corazón, to never stop training. No matter what happens to me or Papa."

"Pinky swear. Nothings gonna happen, mama. I'm gonna save you."

Due to her training, she was an expert at sneaking out for her training which obviously doesn't go unnoticed by Dolores. She would follow the 4 year old to her training grounds near Daniela's house where she would watch from her sobrina from her window.

Y/n couldn't bring herself to face her tía. The carbon copy of her mother. Daniela tried approaching her sobrina only for 4 year old to run away from the grounds and Dolores giving Daniela an apologetic look before running after Y/N. Alvaro would follow Daniela only for her to collapse in his arms.

"Okay." Y/n mumbled as Julieta barely managed to catch it. She open the door to see her best friend's daughter, laying on her Dolores's bed, still in her training outfit, staring up at the vast ceiling above.

"How are you feeling, mi sobrina." Pepa asked.

"I don't know." Y/N shrugged, she felt both sides of bed dip a little as Julieta and Pepa gently sat, brushing their finger through Y/N's hair. Y/N leaned into the touch, reminding her of her mother's soft touch, calming her down after nightmares.

"It's okay, cariño. Just remember me and Tia Pepa are here for you, okay."

"Yeah, I know."

"How was your training today, mi rayo de sol (my sunshine)?" Pepa asked, as the young warrior's eyes lit up, scooting closer to her tias, resting her head on Pepa's lap.

"It was so good. I loved it. I fixed my bow and managed to get a bull's eye. And then I managed to scare Dolores with my daggers." Y/n giggled as Julieta and Pepa chuckled.

"Oh did you now? Remember you don't wanna scare her that much?" Pepa laughed as she lifted her sobrina up and sat her on her lap, facing her, Julieta playfully

"I know, Tia but..." Y/N got interrupted as the bedroom door opened. Dolores and Isabela was at the door with Mirabel in Isabela's arms, resting her sleepy head on her hermana's shoulder after her afternoon nap.

"Tio Félix said it's time for lunch." Isabela whispered, for the sake of her prima's ears and her hermana menor.

"Okay. We'll come down." Julieta answered, getting of the bed.

"Oh and Tia, Tio Agustín in the kitchen again." Dolores muttered, with a small smile as she flinched, hearing Agustín drop something in the kitchen.

"Ay Agustín." Julieta mumbled to herself, pinching the bridge of her nose as the others laughed.

Dolores and Isabela walked downstairs with Mirabel slowly waking up on the way. Pepa lifted Y/N off her lap and placed her back on the bed as Julieta made her way to the door, both promising to come back with food for her. Pepa placed a kiss on her sobrina's forehead before following her hermana.

"Tias?" Y/N called from behind them.

"Yes, mi rayo de sol?"

"Can I... Can I eat downstairs today?" Y/N asked, timidly as Julieta and Pepa looked at each other, before walking back to Y/N. She hadn't brought herself to come down to eat with everyone after her parents death.

"Of course you can, mi vida. You don't have to ask." Julieta answered, as Pepa nodded, tickling Y/N in her sides.

"Okay, okay, stop Tia." The young girl giggled as Julieta and Pepa smirked at each other before tickling Y/N all over, something Y/N couldn't resist.

"Noo. Tias. Stop, por favor. STOPP-" she shrieked, as Julieta and Pepa stopped their tickle attach and Julieta lifted Y/N up in her arms and hugged her close. She kissed her forehead as she walked out with Pepa walking by her side. They walked downstairs as everyone had sat down, shocked to see Y/N who has not sat down to eat with them once since that day. Y/N was placed between Julieta and Pepa with Agustín and Félix by their wife's side.

"Ay, Y/N, how are you today?" Abuela asked, as everyone ate.

"I'm good, señora." Y/n answered, as Abuela shook her head, gently.

"Enough of that. Please call me Abuela." Abuela smiled as did Y/n.

She had never met her abuelos. Oh, she has but she has no memory of them. Well, her abuelo died whilst helping Pedro distracting the guards 40 years ago. They saw his bow and arrow and sort him out to be the enemy, stabbing his straight through the stomach, leaving Y/N's Abuela with her twin daughters (Y/M/N and Daniela) and Alma with her triplets. Her abuela died when Y/N was 2 years old from the same illness her parents had. Now Y/N had no biological family apart from her Tia Daniela and her husband, Tio Alvaro.

The family continued to eat, as Y/n avoided eye contact with Camilo and Carlos who tried to get Y/N to look at them. Mirabel just sat in between them, rolling her eyes at their poor attempt.

"Tias?" Y/N's small voice, tugging their sleeves at both of her sides, interrupting Julieta and Pepa's conversation with their husbands and brother as they looked down at Y/N.

"I... I wanna talk to Tia Daniela today?" Y/N said, in a small voice, as the entire dining table went quiet as they all looked as the little girl. Julieta and Pepa's eyes widened as they looked at each other then at Y/N.

"Are you sure, mi vida?" Julieta asked.

"Uh huh." Y/N answered, as everyone slowly started eating again.

"Okay." Julieta replied, not knowing what else to say.

The Madrigals including Y/N finished eating. Once they finished, they went back into the town as Julieta and Agustín cleared the table and the kitchen. Once they finished, Julieta went into the town square with her usual basket of food for the useless injured individuals.

Dolores was stuck with four 4 year olds as Y/N wanted her to take her to her Tia Daniela's. Camilo ran ahead as his twin, Carlos walked behind him, hands in his pockets. Dolores walked behind them two, holding Mirabel's and Y/N hand as Mirabel cutely blabbed on about butterflies and how she would sew one of Dolores's and Y/N dresses when she's older.

Camilo had already gone to the front door and knocked before Dolores had even gotten to the door herself. They waited for a bit until the door opened to reveal Tio Alvaro. Y/n straight away let go of Dolores's hand and hugged her tio, startling him a bit before he wrapped his arms around his sobrina's small figure.

"Hola, mi pequeña amiga. I've missed you." He gushed as he hugged her tight.

"Tio, stop. You're crushing my ribs." Y/N laughed as Dolores smiled at the interaction.

"Sorry, mi sobrina. What is mi pequeña amiga doing here?" Alvaro asked as he put Y/n back on the ground and put his hands on her cheeks, and kissing her forehead.

"I wanted... I wanted to talk to Tia Dani." Y/N whispered as Alvaro's eyes slightly widen but then went back to normal.

"Oh ermm... Yeah. She's training right now. But I'm sure she'll love to see you." Alvaro answered.

"Come in. Come in." He replied, urging Y/N and the Madrigals in the house. He lead them through the hallway and to the kitchen where a small table was there. An untouched cup of coffee was placed there, Daniela's name engraved on. There was a door that lead to the large back garden also known as The training grounds to Y/N (and Dolores).

Dolores sat on one of the chairs with Mirabel in her lap and Camilo and Carlos sat on one of the chairs.

Dolores and Y/n could hear the sound of arrows whooshing and then hitting something continuously. Y/n looked up at her Tio Alvaro who gave her a nod and gestured towards the back door.

Y/N slowly walked open the door and walked out whilst Tio Alvaro made some aguapanela for everyone. She walked to out to the porch and sat on the one step that led to the ground. Daniela had put an arrow in her bow and aimed it at the target before feeling a presence behind her. She quickly turned around and aimed it at Y/N who just sat with a small smile on her face. Daniela straight away lowered her bow as soon as she saw it was her sobrina.

"Y/N! Ay dios mio! I'm so sorry." Daniela started saying, apologising as she took a one sec to take her sobrina in her arms out of habit but stopped and bit her lip. She closed her eyes as she tries to stop the tears as did Y/N.

Looking at each other just brought back the painful memories. But they couldn't live like this. Walking around each other, living in the same town as each other only to ignore each other.

"Y/N, what are you doing here, mi sobrina?" Daniela asked, putting down her bow and her quiver full of arrows.

"I wanted to talk to my Tia." Y/N answered, with a small smile but then it dropped as she rested her chin on her knees.

Daniela stood with her eyes wide, unsure of what to do. She suddenly got knocked back to the ground as Y/N had quickly ran to her and hugged her tight, small arms around her neck whilst Daniela laid on the ground, shocked.

"I'm sorry, Tia. I'm so sorry." Y/N apologised, as she tightened her hug. Daniela was shocked and slowly returned the hug. She could feel her shoulder becoming wet due to the tears shed by her sobrina as she didn't notice her own tears rolling down her face.

"Y/N? Y/N, it wasn't your fault. You couldn't control it. It always happens for a reason remember. That's what your mama always told you. Right?" Daniela said, comforting the little girl as she sat up from the ground with Y/N's arms still around her neck. She hugged the 4 year old tight.

"Y/N, look at me, por favor." Daniela whispered in her ears.

Y/N sniffled and then pulled apart from a Tia. Daniela brushed the hair out of her sobrina's face and cupped her face.

"I never blamed you, okay. Mi arquera (my archer). I could never do such a thing." Daniela said, looking at Y/N, wiping her tears.

"I can never blame you for looking like your mama."

Back at the house

Dolores had her cup of aguapanela in her hands, untouched. Camilo and Carlos's had been gulped down a while ago. Mirabel's still in her hand, sitting in Dolores's lap with her head leaning against her prima's chest as Dolores's leaned her head on top of Mirabel's. Dolores tried not to pry but her gift doesn't exactly help her. Tears had bridged in her eyes as she heard Y/N and Daniela cry. And then suddenly, giggles were heard as the back door opened again. The 4 Madrigals sitting at the table turned to the door to see Daniela walked through with her sobrina on her shoulders.

It's been a while since that type of laughter was heard. No one could get it out. Sure maybe Julieta and Pepa but they haven't gotten it out since that day.

Daniela and Y/N looked up as they came in and Alvaro passed his esposa and sobrina a cup of aguapanela each.

"So we're okay?" Alvaro asked, smiling.

Daniela looked up at her sobrina and then back at her esposo.

"Yeah, we'll be okay."

TIME SKIP - Y/N'S BIRTHDAY (whatever your birthday is, it's always before Mirabel's)

Y/N slept with light snores here and there in the spare bed as Mirabel quietly crept out of the nursery. She made it to the door and she managed to close it slowly and quietly. She barely made it two steps before she was lifted up into someone's arms.

"Buenos días, mi nube (my cloud)." Pepa's voice was heard in her ear

"Buenos días, Tia." Mirabel answered while whispering, wrapping her small arms around her Tia's neck as Pepa walked downstairs.

"Why are we whispering?" Pepa whispered back, jokingly.

"Y/N's sleeping. I didn't wanna wake her up early so I told Casita not to wake us up." Mirabel answered, going back to normal volume in voice as they reached the bottom steps.

"Awww you're so cute, mi nubarronita." Pepa gushed, peppering kisses all over her sobrina's face. Mirabel squeaked, something she picked up from her prima as she giggled. Pepa and Mirabel got to the middle of the courtyard when a shimmer caught Mirabel's eyes. She squinted her eyes as she saw orange swirling around on it, glowing brightly next to the nursery.

Mirabel's eyes widened as she squirmed back down to the ground as Pepa let her go, not that she had a choice.

"Mira?"

Mirabel didn't answer but pulled away from Pepa, grabbed her hand, ran straight into the kitchen, straight outside where everyone was, waiting for Pepa and Mirabel.

"Buenos días, familia. Abuela, you have to see this." Mirabel greeted, as she went to her Abuela's side.

"Not now, Mariposa. After desayuno, okay?" Abuela said, brushing the curls out of her nieta's face. But Mirabel just grabbed her hand, attempting to drag her abuela off the chair.

"No, Abuela. You have to see this." Mirabel insisted. Abuela noticed the eagerness and decided she'd let her nieta show her.

Mirabel grabbed Abuela's hand and dragged her through the kitchen and out into the courtyard. Everyone else looked at each other and then they all followed Mirabel and Abuela, stopping when they noticed Abuela staring at her youngest nieta with confusion.

"Abuela, look." Mirabel said, pointing to the orange shimmer she had seen. Everyone followed her gaze and finger and they stood there, gobsmacked.

"Is that..."

"Abuela, look." Mirabel said, pointing to the orange shimmer she had seen. Everyone followed her gaze and finger and they stood there, gobsmacked.

"Is that..."

"A door?" Abuela questioned, interrupting Pepa as she walked closer, getting a better look.

She turned back around to her triplets, Agustín and Félix who all gave her confused look and then shrugged.

The Madrigal grandkids stood behind the adults, as Dolores and Isabela looked at each other, also confused. Then Isabela grabbed her prima's arm, turning her to face her as she realised. Dolores gave a confused look before realising. They turned to look back at Abuela as Mirabel walked over to her.

"Abuela?" Mirabel asked, softly, tugging at her abuela's dress. Abuela looked down at her nieta, putting her hand softly on Mirabel's curls.

"Abuela, today's Y/n birthday." Mirabel stated before Dolores or Isabela could say anything. The triplets eyes widened as they looked back at the door, soon realizing who the door was for.

"I know, mariposa. Tonight we have her birthday part..." Abuela started saying before she realised and looked down at her nieta, who smiled back at her, once her abuela got it. She turned back to her triplets who looked back, equally as shocked, Bruno even more since he didn't get a green slab of the future from his gift or an involuntary vision about this.

"Casita?" Tiles around Abuela and Mirabel clink together.

"Who's this...."

"Is the door for Y/N?" Mirabel screamed, unable to contain her excitement. Everyone heart soared at Mirabel's adorableness as the tiles around Mirabel danced around her, agreeing with her.

"We have to call the town." Isabela stated, as Camilo jumped up with eagerness.

"We have to tell Daniela." Julieta pointed out, quieter to Pepa, walking over to her madre with Pepa as they looked at each other with worried glances.

But before Abuela could answer, a door from the second level opened as Y/N walked out the nursery, rubbing the tiredness out of her eyes.

"Tias. Mirabel's not here." She tiredly called out. She removed her hands away from her eyes as she almost immediately, saw something orange flicker from the corner of her eye.

"Whoaaaa. Tias, why is there a d..." Y/N began to ask before Casita's excitement interrupted her by flipping the titles around her before creating some stairs into a slide that led her down to the courtyard and up into Félix's arms.

"Ay, pequeña." He laughed, catching her in his arms and then tickling her sides.

"Ahhhh! Tio!" Y/N shrieked before escaping his arms and hiding behind Agustín.

Agustín smiled before grabbing the young girl whilst tickling his sobrina. Her giggles were loud and like music.

She was wriggling on the ground, escaping to hide behind Julieta from the two offenders, who smiled innocently at her.

"I don't think standing behind me would stop them." Julieta laughed, putting a hand on top of Y/N's head.

"But you'll protect me right?"

"Always, mi sobrina."

"But you can kick their asses, Y/N." Camilo innocently pointed out, causing Pepa and Félix to glare at him for 'language' to which he just shrugged .

"So..." Y/N shot back, with an amount of sass a 5 year old could have, before turning back to her tia.

"Tia, why is there a door there?" Y/N asked, tugging Julieta's apron. But before she could answer, one of her sobrino's answered.

"It's for you." Camilo yelled out in excitement as Carlos facepalmed, along with a mumble of 'idiota', to which Félix and Pepa now gave him a glare for 'language'.

"Milo! It was meant to be a secret! You ruined it!" Mirabel hissed at him, with an adorable annoyed pout on her face. She stomped her way over to Pepa and buried her face in Pepa's dress. Pepa picked her up and placed her on her hip, Mirabel already being distracted from Pepa's cloud which had appeared.

"Lo siento." Camilo replied, without an ounce of an apologetic look on his face as he continued to dance around with Casita who flipped the titles along with Camilo.

"Do I really get my own door?" Y/N excitedly asked Julieta, who nodded.

"And a gift." Camilo reminded. Y/N wondered why she was getting one. She wasn't of Madrigal blood.

"We need to prepare for tonight. Vamo." Abuela remarked, walking towards the kitchen and back outside to the table Everyone followed her and sat down in their seats for breakfast. Once everyone finished eating, they got ready for tonight's gift ceremony.

_______________

"We need to tell Daniela." Julieta told Pepa as Julieta got the food ready for tonight, Pepa helping by... keeping the clouds away. Abuela's orders. Don't want to ruin the party before it's began.

Pepa sighed and just looked ahead. Daniela never said it out loud but it was clear from their talks together Daniela didn't like Alma and her rules. Her orders. Her ways of the Madrigals... living life. Her exact words to her husband were, 'this is not a dictatorship'. Her twin sister, Y/M/N also shared the same view. Y/F/N believed the same, always on his esposa's side. This view once led to one of their biggest arguements a few months after Luisa got her gift of super strength when Y/M/N and Daniela found out this is what the town of Encanto does to a 5 year old kid with super strength who has no experience.

A white cloud appeared above Pepa's head as she turned around to face her hermana who was looking right back at her. She didn't need to their twin or triplet telepathy or whatever to know Julieta was thinking the same thing.

"Juli... She... She's not gonna like this." Pepa whispered, but her hermana caught it. Pepa leaned her back on the countertop behind her, taking a break from helping Julieta by making the mixtures for the arepas. Julieta looked at her hermana who played with her fingers. Julieta closed her eyes and sighed before placing the last arepa on the griddle. She then walked up to her hermana and standing next her, leaning her back on the countertop aswell.

"We have to tell her. It's not going to be easy but... Julieta started, taking Pepa's hand and rubbing circles on them.

"She was thinking of taking Y/N to live with her and Alvaro, Juli." Pepa said, leaning her on Julieta's shoulder as Julieta leaned her head on top of Pepa's.

Julieta's eyes widened in shocked, as she now realized how bad that'll now be for the future.

Julieta stayed silent, thinking until her train of thought were interrupted by Casita clinking the titles to get her attention, 'saying' more arepas are needed on the griddle. Kitchen tiles on the countertop flipped as Casita had placed the cooked arepas in a plate. Pepa sighed before she removed herself from her hermana's side and got back to the mixture. Julieta went back to the griddle and put more arepas on. Pepa turned towards her hija who was tidying the far side of the kitchen up a bit with the little help of Mirabel and Y/N. No doubt the 11 year old heard everything with the two children happily giggling to each other, not hearing a word.

"Dolores, can you please go get your Tia Daniela?" Pepa requested to her hija.

"Sí, Mamí." Dolores answered, as she stood up from where she was sat and walked out of Casita.

"Oooh can we go, tia?" Y/N pleaded with Pepa, holding Mirabel's hand. Julieta and Pepa smiled and nodded before kissing their forehead and sending them off with Dolores.

Mirabel and Y/N ran and held Dolores's hand as the three of them walked out of Casita, towards Daniela's house.

"I can't wait to tell Tia Dani." Y/N gushed.

"She's gonna be so happy." Mirabel answered, just as excited.

"Yeah." The now 5 year old said excitedly, but not that loud to hurt Dolores's ears. The two best friends let go of Dolores's hand before running ahead, Y/N running more ahead due to her training.

Dolores walked towards Daniela's house, trying not to think of what would happen later. No doubt there'll be arguements and shouting. She distracted herself by listening to the town's people, some of them gushing at the thought of a new gift ceremony as Abuela and Isabela had gone round and held a town meeting to everyone.

Before she knew it, she was in front of Daniela's door as Y/N did her rhythmic knock.

They waited a few seconds before shuffling was heard on the other side of the door which swung open. Daniela opened the door with a smile before she immediately knocked down to the ground by her sobrina.

"Ay, feliz cumpleaños." Daniela greeted as she hugged her sobrina tight to her chest. Mirabel went back to holding Dolores's hand as they watched the tia-sobrina interaction.

"Tia. Tia. Guess what?" Y/N gushed out, lifting her head from Dani's chest.

"Hmmmm let me guess. Your Tia Pepa got you the biggest baddest presents of the history of presents." Daniela teased, causing Y/N to giggle, shaking her head fondly.

"No. Something wayyyy better."

"Y/N, how about we..." Dolores started saying she got interrupted by heavy footsteps. Alvaro bursted through the kitchen door and through to the hallway, towards his esposa and sobrina.

"TIO!" Y/N shouted, excitedly, forgetting about Mirabel and Dolores who covered her ears in time, not that it helps.

Alvaro laughed wholeheartedly, before lifting Y/N off his esposa's chest and throwing her in the air and then catching her with ease.

"Feliz cumpleaños, mi pequeño amigo. Ay, mi niña ya creció. Ay amor, ¿no está creciendo ahora? (Happy Birthday, my little friend. Ay, my little girl's all grown up now. Ay amor, isn't she growing up now.)" Alvaro spoke out, enthusiastically, hugging Y/N close to him, as she squealed, hugging him back. Daniela smiled as Dolores helped her up, Alvaro putting a hand out to Mirabel who ran up and hugged him tight. The older women smile seemed to falter a little, reliving on some past memories before shaking her head slightly, getting out of the trance, coming back in the present. (You'll find out in book 2). Dolores narrowed her eyes slightly at her tia, before remembering what happened, putting a hand on her arm. Daniela looked at Dolores and smiled but it didn't quite reach her eyes. The two of them looked back at Y/N, Mirabel and Alvaro.

"So, Lola. What brings you here? And no, it's not because of mi sobrina's birthday." Daniela asked Dolores, who squeaked.

"Erm..." Dolores didn't know how to say it. She didn't know how she'd react.

"You... you might wanna come to Casita and speak with Mama and tia." Dolores said, before going over to Mirabel, leaving Daniela stunned.

"Come on." Dolores said, softly to Mirabel, holding out her hand to her prima who jumped up and took it. The primas walked out the house as Y/N squirmed down from Alvaro's arms.

"Come on, tia. We need to go. You have to see it." Y/N giggled, excitedly, grabbing Daniela's hand and running out the door after Dolores and Mirabel. Alvaro stood there shocked, watching his sobrina drag his esposa. He shook his head before closing the front door and running after Y/N and Dolores.

The 3 trained warriors (Daniela, Alvaro and Y/N) ran ahead of Dolores and Mirabel towards the Casita before Dolores and Mirabel looked at each other, small smiles on their faces. Dolores gestured her head towards the warriors as Mirabel smiled widely, knowing what her prima meant. They let go of each other's hand before Mirabel ran ahead after The L/N's as they spirited through the plaza, catching that attention of the town's people. They greeted the birthday girl who waved with no intention in stopping, her familia doing the same.

Casita flips their tiles as they ran up the path of Casita. Casita then pulled the visitors in the house by the tiles, with Dolores and Mirabel catching up behind. Alvaro held onto Daniela as Casita led them into the kitchen and dropped them in a chair each, surprising Julieta and Pepa, Pepa nearly striking them with lightning from her cloud above her head.

Y/N giggled as she walked in with Dolores and Mirabel behind her, out of breathe. The four adults looked at Y/N with proud looks as the 5 year old now walked away with Mirabel and Dolores, chatting away. It's been a few months since the death of Y/N's parents. She's finally showing some progress.

The cloud above Pepa's head was now replaced with a rainbow as she watched her hija taking care of the two children. She turned around to meet the confused eyes of one of her best friends.

"So... Why am I here?" Daniela asked, cutting straight to the point.

"We." Alvaro interrupted.

"Why are we here?" Daniela said, sending a short glare, opposite the table at her esposa who smiled sheepishly back at her.

She knows Julieta and Pepa would never invite her early here, even if it was her own sobrina's birthday. Abuela's orders. And whatever Abuela says goes, right. It has been like that ever since they were teenagers. The Madrigal Triplets have always wanted to do anything to make their mother proud of them. So they couldn't say no. Well Pepa could but it would always follow with 'Pepa, you have a cloud' along with a disgusted/disappointed look and then walked straight out.

Pepa and Julieta looked at each other with worried glances. Daniela and Alvaro watched, confused as Julieta closed her eyes and sighed, taking a deep breathe in. Pepa stood next to her, putting a hand on her hermana mayor's shoulder.

"Julieta?" Alvaro asked with a looked of concern. Julieta looked up at Alvaro, before closing her eyes, bracing herself with what might happen next.

"Something happened today morning." Julieta managed to start saying, as Pepa brought her hand down from Julieta's shoulder to her hand, Julieta held it tight, as if it was her lifeline.

"We don't know how. Or why? But it's there."

Daniela and Alvaro shared a worried look, wanting everything tonight to go perfect for their little sobrina.

"Well... What happened?" Alvaro asked.

Julieta tried to swallow some built up saliva, before noticing her throat was dry. Pepa noticed her hermana wanting to speak, but no words came out.

"Vamo." Pepa simply said, as she slightly tug Julieta's hand, indicating her to come with. Daniela and Alvaro got up from their chairs instantly, as they watched Pepa lead her hermana mayor out of the kitchen and towards the courtyard where a bunch of the town's people had come to decorate Casita.

They stood in the middle of the courtyard as the town's people dodged and squeezed past the four of them. The house, usually quieter, was now bustling with activity as Abuela got Isabela decorating Casita with her gracious flowers, Luisa to move the heavy things around no one can carry, Dolores to help around whilst hearing out for anyone coming late, Camilo to help the town's people with Mirabel and Y/N playing together in the nursery.

"Pepa, what happened?" Daniela questioned, through gritted teeth, as she slowly was getting annoyed with all of this 'nonsense'.

"Just look up there." Pepa retorted back, pointing up to the second level as a cloud appeared above her head but quickly disappearing before Abuela could see.

Daniela and Alvaro followed Pepa's finger to the new door. The new orange door. The new orange shiny door reserved for the birthday girl.

Alvaro gasped, quietly as he stood behind Daniela with his hands on her shoulders. He felt Daniela tense as she clenched her fists, looking up at the banner above the new door that said her sobrina's name, 'Y/N'.

Daniela breathed in heavily with anger, as she looked back at Pepa, glaring at them.

"No." She simply said, anger lacing in her voice, marching back towards the kitchen, Alvaro hot on her tail, Julieta and Pepa racing after them. Some of the town's people had stopped what they were doing once they heard the commotion but got back to work when they saw the glare of Alvaro (with his hand on his small dagger he always kept with him) when he turned around before getting back to the kitchen.

"Daniela, please try to think..." Julieta started saying before she got interrupted by Daniela's sharp turn of her body, facing Julieta and Pepa with fire in her eyes now that they were in the kitchen.

"No!"

"Dani.."

"She's not doing it."

"Daniela..."

"Y/M/N wouldn't have wanted this. You know damn well she wouldn't."

"She'd want her to be happy." Pepa shouted back, tried to reason with her, with a cloud above her head. Alvaro stood next to his wife, as his esposa y amigo had brought up his late cuñada.

"Oh, don't you bring that up. I know what she would have wanted. You know damn well she wouldn't be happy with a gift." Daniela shouted, angrily as Julieta and Pepa gasped, glaring right back at their amigos, brows furrowed in shock.

"Mi amor, por favor cálmate (my love , please calm down)." Alvaro tried saying, calmly, wrapping his arms around Daniela's shoulder but she pushed him away, getting closer to Pepa.

"Y/N not doing it." Daniela seethed, clearly angry, poking a finger at Pepa's chest, who grabbed Daniela's finger with the cloud above her head darken to black quickly, matching Daniela's glare.

"She's doesn't have a choice."

A voice from the entrance of the kitchen called out. Abuela stood there, with her usual emotionless face, hand clasped around her locket as she was staring hard at Daniela who did the same.

Abuela stood there, with her usual emotionless face, hand clasped around her locker as she was staring hard at Daniela who did the same.

"She is not doing it." Daniela exasperated, Alvaro's hands were back on her shoulder, holding her upright.

"She has to." Abuela protested, but it sounded like a command. She walked forward to her side of the table, not taking her eyes off Daniela, as Daniela gave her a hard, death glare of her own.

"No, she doesn't! She is not going to. I will not let allow it. She is my..."

"Daniela, look. I know Y/M/N and Y/F/N would not..."

"Mama!" Julieta and Pepa's eyes widened as their mama mentioned their late amigos, knowing this will make Daniela more angry but Alma didn't get to finish before Daniela interrupted her.

"STOP! YOU DO NOT GET TO BRING UP MY HERMANA! OR MY CUÑADO!" Daniela roared, making her way towards Alma but Alvaro caught her arms before she did, Daniela pointing a finger at Alma who still remained remarkably calm and emotionless, though she did flinch a little at the raise in Daniela's voice. Alvaro's hands on her arms was the only thing right now that kept her back, but Alvaro would be more than happy to let his esposa off. He knew Alma knew she made a huge mistake, mentioning his cuñada and cuñado.

"I KNOW WHAT SHE WOULD HAVE WANTED. AND IT CERTAINLY WASN'T THIS." Daniela shouted at the leader of Encanto, slamming her hands on the table, enraged. Julieta and Pepa jumped at the sound, Pepa immediately thinking if her hija is okay.

Alvaro glared at Alma, as if to say, 'do not say anything' and pulled his esposa down to sit on a chair. Casita brought her a glass of water in her hand to cool down.

"How did it even appear?" Alvaro demanded, looking at Alma, from standing on the side of Daniela, gripping the back of the chair.

"She isn't a Madrigal by blood or anything."

Alma frozen but hid it well. She's always considered Y/N one of her own grandchildren. It was here where she stayed the few months after her padres death.

"I-I don't know." Alma sighed, looking down. She truly did not know why Casita had given Y/N a gift. She'd try to ask Casita who just shrugged its window shutters before clinking the tiles together as a sign of 'I know why but I'm not telling you'. Alma just got frustrated, knowing Casita wouldn't tell her, just as stubborn as she was. It slowly reminded her of her esposo, died long ago.

"She's not doing it!" Daniela shot up from her seat and stormed out the kitchen and up the stairs towards the nursery. Casita drooped its banner decoration in defeat but then raises it back up, as if nothing happened when Alma, Julieta, Pepa and Alvaro eyed it in confusion.

Julieta and Pepa looked at each other, wondering what's wrong with Casita. Alvaro sighed, rolling his eyes and took the glass of water with him as he left the kitchen and followed his esposo out towards the nursery but when he got there, he found his esposa waiting outside, with her hand raised to knock but she didn't, she just stared at the door.

"Daniela?" He called out to her as he walked up to her. Daniela looked up at him, surprised as she quickly tried to wipe her tears away.

"Don't." Alvaro rushed over to Daniela, stopped her hand from wiping the tears. After all these years of dating and marriage, she still wiped her tears away, embarrassed, even when he was her esposo.

"Don't." He repeated, softly, cupping her face in his face, getting him to look up at her.

Daniela tilted her head up at him, but had her eyes closed. Alvaro smiled, slightly before placing multiple kisses on her forehead and then leaning his forehead on hers.

"Abre los ojos, mi amor (Open your eyes, my love)." He whispered, calmly.

"Don't be embarrassed. It's only me, amor."

He tugged her close in a tight hug, arms wrapped around her as she buried her face into his chest with her arms tightly wrapped around him.

"She can't do this to her. She's been through enough already. Her entire life." She cried whilst murmuring into his chest, clinging onto him.

"It's okay. You know what we'll do." Alvaro pulled apart, taking his esposa's face in his hands as he looked down into her teary chocolate brown eyes.

"She'll get her gift and she'll stay with us." Alvaro proposed as Daniela squinted her eyes and looked up at her esposo.

"B-but what about her new room?" Daniela asked, shaking her head as she held his wrists whilst his hands were still on her cheeks.

"Sleepovers." Alvaro simply replied, shrugging his shoulders, like he just said the most obvious thing in the world.

"Remember. Now we have to help her prepare for what comes later. Maybe, this gift is something good after all." He added.

Daniela scoffed a little as she then breathed in and out before nodding. She slowly pulled away from Alvaro and turned to face the door of the nursery again, ignoring the hustle and bustle of people downstairs and on the second level where all the doors. But they ignored them, once they noticed the knife again at Alvaro's waist.

"Mi sobrinas?" Daniela knocked on the door before opening the door, cautiously. Knowing 4 and 5 year old, they could come out with anything.

"Hola Tia." She heard Y/N sigh from inside. Daniela furrowed her brows in confused, looking at Alvaro who had the same expression.

"¿Puedo entrar, por favor? (Can I come in, please?)" Daniela asked.

"Sí"

Daniela opened the door wider and walked into the nursery, with her esposo close behind. Inside, toys were scattered around as Y/N, Mirabel and Carlos was laying down on their backs, on the floor as a triangle between the three of them, their heads touching each other (Mirabel was slowly falling asleep). Dolores was laying on Mirabel's bed, one hand on her stomach and the other dropped carelessly off the bed.

"Dolores? I thought you were helping out." Daniela questioned, confused.

"I was. But then it got too loud. So Papi told me to stay with Mirabel and Y/N." Dolores answered. Carlos smacked her hand that was hanging off the bed, rolling his eyes.

"And Carlos." Dolores rolled her eyes, before getting up from laying down on Mirabel's bed to picking Mirabel up from the floor and laying her in her bed where she continued to sleep. Dolores then got back on the bed, laying next to her young prima.

"And why are you here?" Alvaro teased Carlos.

"I hate helping." Carlos deadpanned, without looking at Alvaro who just raised an eyebrow. Him and Camilo were so different.

"Okay...." Alvaro laughed, awkwardly.

"Ignore him." Dolores said, rolling her eyes.

"Tia, do you really not want me to get a gift?" Y/N got up from the floor to sit up and stared at her tia with her teary y/e/c eyes, Carlos turning his head to look at Daniela in surprised which he then hid.

Daniela looked at her sobrina with wide eyes, wondering how she heard but then sighed.

"It's not that... It's..." Daniela didn't know what to say. She couldn't exactly say, ' Oh yeah I don't want you to get one cuz Alma would just use you like a dog at work and you'll be a slave for the town. Jolly days'.

Instead, Daniela sighed before walking over to Y/N and sat in front of her, cross-legged, taking Y/N's hands in hers.

"I want to do this." Y/N whispered to her.

"Por favor." She pleaded.

Daniela smiled, knowing her sobrina got that from her hermana gemela. Both Y/M/N and Y/N were down to doing anything, even just to try. They'd chose to do it and then do it without hesitation, despite Y/N only being 5 years of age. But both, mother and daughter, was stubborn as hell.

Daniela moved her hand so she was cradling the young face of her 5 year old sobrina in front of her. They smiled at each other, before Daniela placed a kiss on Y/N's forehead.

"Ay, my sweet girl." Daniela stroked Y/N's cheeks as the girl was on her knees.

"Me and your tio have decided. It's your choice. You can get your gift. But you stay with me and your tio."

"But what about her room?" Carlos appalled, getting up from his laying down position as Dolores got up from her laying position.

"Sleepovers." Daniela simply replied, before looking back at her niece, ignoring Carlos's shocked expression.

"But you can't do that." Carlos shouted, clenching his fists.

"Yes. Yes, I can. I'm her tia. She's my sobrina. I'm her guardian. She stays with me." Daniela argued back, as Alvaro tried not to smirk. Daniela could argue with anyone, it doesn't matter what age they are. It doesn't matter who you are. Even if you're the leader of Encanto. Oh, especially if you're the leader of Encanto.

"Well, you're not her mam..." Carlos may be 5 but he's got a sharp tongue for 5 year old.

"¡Carlos, no te atrevas! ¡Suficiente! (Carlos, don't you dare! Enough!)" Dolores hissed at her younger hermano.

"Well, she's not here. Okay. I'm her next family member." Daniela answered back, knowing what he was going to say. It was obvious.

"Carlos! Tia doesn't have to be Mama. And Tio doesn't have to be Papa. But they're like my mama and papa and I'm staying with them." Y/N turned around and faced her amigo, crossing her small arms across her chest. Daniela and Alvaro looked at each other, with teary eyes once they heard the words of their sobrina. Y/N surprised her tia and tio by dragging them in a hug. They wrapped their arms around her small figure before she then pulled away from them.

"Maybe I can use this gift to help you. To help with the bad guys." Y/N proposed, enthusiastically. Alvaro picked her up and threw in the air.

"Yes, then you can kick their asses with your super cool powers." He replied, with the same amount of energy as she giggled.

"Gift." Carlos corrected, bitterly, earning him a light snack in the head by Dolores.

"Yes, kick their asses with their your new gift." Alvaro jested, ruffling Carlos's hair.

"Alvaro." Daniela warned, teasingly.

"What..." He answered, shooting his esposa an 'innocent' smile. She raised an eyebrow as if to say, 'you know', with a smile. Dolores and Y/N chuckled as Daniela shook her head, fondly and Carlos smirked, knowing his mama always blamed Alvaro for Carlos and Camilo's 'intriguing' vocabulary as the precious age of 5.

"Ohhhh. Ohhh, yeah. Can't say asses. That's a bad word." Alvaro joked to Y/N, wagging a finger at her as she giggled.

"You're very silly, Tio." Y/N snickered as Alvaro gasped, dramatically falling back on the floor, grabbing his chest.

"Oh, you wounded me, mi pequeña amiga. I think I need some of Tia Julieta's food." Alvaro adequately dramatised.

"Still hereeee~!" Carlos chimed in, causing Alvaro to get up from the floor, chuckling and ruffle Carlos's right curls, Carlos rolling his eyes and shoving Alvaro's hand away, roughly.

In that moment, Casita knocks a clock towards Y/N, showing the time as 6:30. (Don't ask how time went by so fast)

"Gracias, Casita. I need to go now." Y/N giggled, getting off from the floor and running towards the door.

"Wait-where are you going?" Alvaro asked, helping his esposa off the floor as Carlos got off the floor and Dolores woke Mirabel up who groggily got up from her little nap.

"Abuela said, she's going to tell me the story of the candle." Y/N answered, before swinging the door open and running out, Casita closing the door.

Daniela sighed for what might be the hundredth time today, and just watched her sobrina go.

"She'll be okay, Tia." Dolores stated, coming to stand next to Daniela with Mirabel in her arms, Mirabel resting her sleepy head on Dolores's shoulder and Carlos stood next to his hermana, with a smirk plastered on his face, ready for tonight. Daniela turned to look at Dolores and smiled at her. Dolores may be 11 years old but she was way mature for her age (another expectancy of Alma Madrigal).

Dolores knew how much pain Daniela might be in right now from everything that's happened over the past few years, the death of her hermana gemela and cuñado toping up more pain (and the fear of losing the only close family relative apart from Alvaro toping on top of everything right now).

But Dolores knew. So did Isabela. Luisa just not yet. Daniela could only hope Luisa hasn't forgotten any memories of the last few years.

Casita opened the nursery door and the 4 of them walked out, with Mirabel still in Dolores's arms. Everyone from the town was here and there as Casita was filled with music, laughter and food. Isabela was in the corner, entertaining some villagers with her gift (Mirabel jumped down from Dolores's arm and down the stairs to join her hermana mayor as Isabela gave her a flower crown of pink chrysanthemums, her favourite flower, when she saw her hermanita), Luisa was walking around with plates of food, Agustín was behind her in case she drops anything, even though Luisa knew her papa would be more of risk in dropping them than she was, even though she was 9, but she didn't have the heart to tell him, Pepa was at the side with Félix and Bruno, Julieta was in the kitchen putting more food on plates for Luisa, Camilo was entertaining the children of the town with his gift. The villagers were having the time of their lives, whilst some wondered why a girl with no Madrigal blood was being given a gift. But no one would answer.

Daniela and Alvaro walked down with Dolores and Carlos behind them, joining the hustle and bustle of the people, ready for tonight's ceremony.

The Gift Ceremony

Chapter Text

Y/N sat on Mirabel's bed in the nursery, watching from the window. She has heard the story of Encanto and how it came to be. She also found out that her own abuela that passed away when Y/N was 2 years old, was one of the refugees along with her twins, Y/M/N and Daniela. Y/N's abuelo was with them but he killed by the soldiers that night.

She could see Camilo and Luisa at the entrance greeting everyone as the entire town walking towards Casita for this amazing yet unexpected gift ceremony. She would always wonder why Casita decided to grant her a gift. But Casita wouldn't tell her.

She sighed and leaned forward, resting her head on her arms. A small chirp on the side of her tore her gaze away from the town. She turned her head towards a small blue robin hopping over to her.

"Hola, Royal (rroh - yahl)."

"How are you today?"

The small robin chirped as if to answer before taking off and landing on the girl's shoulder. It nuzzled his head into her cheek as the girl giggled and then stroked it.

"Me too." This blue robin has been with her since the day of her parents death. Always following her, everywhere. Like Y/N was its second home. Maybe he was sent by her parents to look after her. But then she thought that was a silly idea.

Her meeting with her friend was interrupted by a light knock on the door.

"Come in." She called back, still looking out the window with her little blue friend.

"Hiya, kid." Bruno's voice rang out.

Y/N's head turned so fast Bruno was afraid she'd get whiplash. She hasn't seen him much since her parents had passed, despite seeing him at breakfast, lunch and dinner only. But nevertheless, she answered, excitedly.

"Kid? I'm a grown woman!" Y/N retorted, with a small smirk.

"Woman?" Bruno repeated, eyes wide with amusement.

"Uh-huh." Y/N nodded her head, innocently. Royal scoffed at her, causing Y/N to nudge her shoulder, startling the robin.

"Not just yet, sobrina." Bruno laughed, with a smile.

The 5 year old giggled as she got down from the bed. Then in a blink of an eye, she had ran over to him and hugged him tight. Royal squawked in alarm at the abrupt movement as he managed to get off her shoulders in time, flapping his wings frantically.

"Are you ready for tonight?" He chuckled, hugging her back.

"Yeah, I guess." She said, not enthusiastically which Bruno noticed. She was earlier from what Daniela told him.

Y/N looked up and saw Bruno giving her the, 'tell me the truth' look, normally only mastered by Julieta and Pepa. She giggled slightly.

"You've learnt something from Tia Julieta and Tia Pepa."

"¿Qué?"

"Your serious face. It's good. They'll be proud." She answered, patting Bruno's stomach before pulling away from Bruno. He seemed proud of this, puffing out his chest a little before he turned a little serious again though he could never really master the real serious face when it came to his sobrinas and sobrinos but he tried anyways.

"Okay, stop changing the subject. Tonight's your night." He stated, causing Y/N's smile to drop a little before sighing.

"Ermm. I don't know." She truthfully answered, nervously fiddling her hands.

"Why? You'll be great." Bruno replied, walking her to the bed where they sat on the edge.

"I don't know." She whined, leaning her elbows on her knees and burying her face on her hands.

"I feel like it's not meant for me. I'm not worth it." Y/N huffed, playing with a small dagger she always had on her.

"You sure you're five years old? You definitely don't sound like it." Bruno joked a little. Y/N sighed again before Bruno looked at her, sympathetically.

"You are. You are worth it." Bruno immediately reassured her. She just huffed again, dropping backwards to lay down on the bed, careful not to crease her new dress as Royal came and sat on her interlocked hands on her stomach.

"But how? I'm not a Madrigal."

"So? Looks like you don't have to be if Casita has decided to give you one."

Bruno laid down next to her, as they both stared up at the nursery's green ceiling. They just laid in silence until some realization washed over the young girl.

"Tio Bruno!" She bolted upright as did Bruno, out of shock. Royal squawking in alarm again. He gave her an annoyed expression but Y/N was too excited by her realization to notice.

"Errr... Yeah?" He asked, cautiously.

"You've had a vision about this!" Y/N yelled excitedly but not too loud.

"What?! No. No-no I haven't." Bruno's eyes widened as he looked everywhere but at Y/N.

"Yes you have. Obviously you have. You can tell me." Y/N insisted as Bruno got up and walked towards the door.

"No I can't." Y/N ran infront of him, and grabbed his arms to stop him from getting to the door. Bruno shrieked like a girl, not expecting to her to stop him like that. He was so glad she left the dagger on the bed.

"Why?" Y/N let go of her grip to which Bruno ran around the room, shrieking again when Y/N began chasing him. Royal just stood on one of the bed post's and watched with amusement.

"Cuz I can't." Bruno shouted. He just hoped no one outside the nursery heard, especially his madre. Ay, poor Dolores.

"But whhyyyy." Y/N complained as she then yelped when Bruno surprisingly picked her up and placed her on the bed, away from the dagger.

"Erm... Just, ermm because."

"Bye." Bruno simply said, before rushing out and leaving Y/N confused in the nursery.

Y/N just sighed as Casita knocked a clock towards her by its tiles, showing the time as 7:00.

She slid off the bed, placed the dagger in its usual place. Royal came and landed on her shoulder as she walked to the door where she paused.

"Imma make you proud, Mama and Papa." She breathed before opening the door a bit.

She looked through the crack in the door and saw the entire courtyard filled with the town's people minding their own business (for once). She searched for Bruno but then decided to give up when she realized he won't be there that quick. Surprisingly enough, she saw him on the side, talking with Dolores, who was being admired by someone from far. Y/N glared at Mariano who dreamily stared at her 'hermana mayor' with his mama next to him, talking to Abuela Alma.

She saw Luisa look up and nodded at her from her walk with another platter of food. The young girl waved at Luisa until Luisa walked away with a group of kids following her. They really looked small compared to nine year old Luisa. Y/N tried to look for the other Madrigals including her Tia Daniela and Tio Alvaro until Royal squawked at her and Casita flipped a few tiles near her feet, telling to her hurry up.

"Okay okay, I'm going." She giggled, scratching Royal's head. She then took a deep breathe in and out before walking out and quietly closing the door, hoping she didn't catch the attention of any of the people. Clamping her fists around clunks of her dress, she nervously walked to the stairs and down them to the foyer which was a sort of back stage from which all gift ceremonies began at.

"Ay, there she is." Alvaro came over to her as she walked down the last bit of stairs.

"Mi pequeña amiga is all grown up." Alvaro hugged her, lifting her off the floor, effortlessly.

"You ready, sobrina?" Daniela's voice rang out, as she forward with Alvaro.

"Uh-huh". She answered, struggling to hug Alvaro back due to his strength but giggled anyways.

Alvaro puts her down as Daniela took her turn to give her sobrina a tight squeeze.

"Just know, I am really proud of you." Daniela whispered as she pulled apart to cradle Y/N's face.

Y/N teared up at the words of her Tia. She knew it was her tia but it was still her mama's voice. Her mama's voice, her mama's face, everything about her mama. She just missed her mama so much. And her papa. She often got nightmares of when she was older and she would forget them. How they looked, how they talked. Everything.

She jumped at her tia who caught her, surprised. Y/N threw her arms around Daniela and hugged her.

"So proud." Alvaro echoed, kneeling down next to his esposa and sobrina. Daniela pulled apart and pinched Y/N's cheeks, teasingly.

"¿Socios? (Partners?) Daniela asked, sticking up a pinkie finger.

"Socios. (Partners)" Y/N smiled, interlocking her pinkie with Daniela's. She loves her tia so damn much.

"Tia, Abuela said it's time." Dolores interrupted the sweet moment, opening the curtains on the side slightly.

Alvaro thanked her before Dolores went back into the crowds, standing with her prima, Isabela and her youngest prima, Mirabel in between them who was buzzing with so much excitement. Luisa stood behind them with her hands on her hermanita's shoulder to keep her down.

'Backstage', Y/N pulled away from Daniela and smoothed out the creases on her dress. Daniela kissed both of her cheeks before standing up with Alvaro.

"We'll be waiting at the door." Alvaro told her, resisting the urge to ruffle his sobrina's hair which he really should stop doing otherwise she'll bite back. Just like Y/M/N.

They both winked at her before leaving 'backstage' to walk up the stairs made by Casita on gift ceremonies. Royal flew out with them before the curtains closed and found Mirabel in the front of the family of Madrigals. Mirabel giggled and held out her hands, cupped in front of her for Royal. Royal landed softly in them, leaning into the warmth of her hands. Daniela stood in front of her esposo at the top of the banister with Alvaro behind her with his hands on her shoulders, comfortingly.

Y/N stood behind the curtains, continuously smoothing out the creases on her dress that weren't even there, even though she doesn't know why. She then stood up straight but continued to fiddle with her fingers. She hadn't noticed how quiet it had gotten out there until she heard Alma's voice from the courtyard.

Casita opened the curtains a bit so Y/N could see through. She could see Abuela Alma smiling at the crowds as she stood a few stairs up with the candle glowing brightly, cupped in her hands.

"Forty years ago, in our darkest moment, this candle blessed us with a miracle." Alma began her speech, one she said at every gift ceremony, from her niños to her nietos.

"And the greatest honour of our family has been to use our blessings to serve this beloved community. Tonight, we come together once more as another steps into the light... To make us proud." She finished as Daniela and Alvaro flinched a little which obviously went unnoticed by everyone in the crowd on the lower level except Dolores who refused to make eye contact with the couple.

Drum rolls were played and the curtains are whisked opened by Casita, surprising Y/N but she hid it well. The crowd of people then cheered as Abuela Alma made it to the top of the staircase. Y/N froze in place, fists clenched. All eyes are on her as she tries to control her feelings inside. It seemed to worsen when Casita turns the spotlights in her direction, blinding her slightly.

She could see Mirabel peeping out and giving her a thumbs up and a warm smile, which gave her a little more strength to take the first step. Casita lightly pushed her forward, giving her a little headstart that no one noticed. Her legs felt like jelly as she walked down the red walkway aisle that Casita had rolled out just before. She slowly dropped her hands to her side to stop herself for tearing her skin from anxiety. Why was it so terrifying? Does everyone need to be here? Was it really necessary?

Walking past the Madrigals had to be the worst feeling yet. Being a non-Madrigal to get a gift. So much expectations to live up to. They all had useful gifts, but what if hers isn't? What can she do to help the community with some gift good for nothing?

She could see Camilo out of the corner of her eye, shifting into different family members to cheer her up which she was immensely grateful for. She gave him a small smile before getting to the bottom of the stairs.

She looked up at the top of the stairs and caught sight of her tia and tio. They smiled down, nodding at her, silently telling her, 'its okay' which helped with her nerves.

They gave reassuring smiles which gave Y/N the strength to climb up the stairs. Alma gave her a small smile of encouragement and placed a warm hand on her shoulder, trying to soothe her. The crowd waited for Abuela Alma's next words attentively.

"Will you use your gift to honour our miracle? Will you serve this community and strengthen our home?" Abuela Alma stated as Y/N places her hands on the candle. Daniela gripped Alvaro's hand tight at Alma's last sentence as Alvaro gave a comforting squeeze back.

"Uh-huh. I promise." Y/N answered, nodding at the same time. Abuela Alma gave the young girl a warm smile before moving to the side, in front of Daniela and Alvaro, so Y/N could get to her door. Y/N looks at it for a few seconds, gathering the courage to reach for it. She wiped her sweaty hands on her dress before reaching out a hand towards her door handle.

Everyone waited with anticipation as Y/N hesitated when she held her hand out towards her door handle. They all seem to breathe a sigh of relief when her hand touched the doorknob.

As soon as she does, everyone could feel the energy around him change. They watch as the magic spreads from the pal of Y/N's hands to the doorknob to the rest of the door. Y/N's eyes widened as did her tia and tio's. They watched the door glow a fascinating orange, shining brightly on their faces as well as everyone in the crowds. But it still didn't have a picture of the girl on it. Or her name. Just shone bright orange in her face.

She felt a surge of warm magic through her veins but nothing else as her hand was still on the doorknob. No flowers growing your hair, no super hearing echoing through your ears, no sudden super strength. Had it not worked? What that possible? It worked for everyone else. Why not her?

Her mind was racing with millions of questions as she unknowingly gripped her dress tight, hoping she hadn't made a fool of herself in front of the whole town.

She stood, shaking as Dolores on the lower level covered her ears in pain as she could hear the whispers already starting up from the crowds.

"What's her gift?"

"Maybe Casita will reject her."

"She's not a Madrigal."

"She's dangerous enough."

"Casita will reject her."

"She'll bring harm to this village."

"She's not a Madrigal. Why would she get a gift?"

Y/N turned to look at Abuela with a confused look. She looked back at her Tia and Tio behind Alma who gave confused looks back.

"What's her gift?" A man shouted from the crowds but was ignored when everyone noticed something.

It started as a low rumbling sound, a small pebble on the ground shaking on the floor. It then came from a corner of the second level near Y/N's door where a small table was placed. First, no one but Dolores heard it. The rest were all to busy staring at a 5 year old struggle with their thoughts.

The more whispers, the more Y/N wished to be back a few hours, when she was playing with Mirabel and Carlos.

Then the noise gradually became louder as in another corner, the table there began shake.

"Does anyone hear that?" A villager asked from the crowds. At that same moment, Casita began to shake violently as the ground shook, majority of them screaming as they lot their balance. Those who didn't, caught their fellow neighbours and helped them stand.

The rumble got louder for everyone's ears as they covered them, squinting in pain. They all looked up at the second level where Y/N was on her knees and blocking her ears. It was too much. Too many people talking. She didn't have super hearing, that's for sure. But she could hear them. It was part of her training to have good attentive listening skills.

Alma looked around, panicking. What was going on? Would this gift bring harm to Encanto. She has to get it under control. For the Encanto. To strengthen our home.

But before anything else, all the objects from the table, side of the table, objects from downstairs, all smashed together and took off. They flew towards young girl, Y/N, who looked up and her eyes went wide.

"Y/N!" Daniela and Alvaro shouted, trying to get to their sobrina who held up her hands in front of her in defence.
