These Galaxies in Your Eyes

Summary:

... It's poetry. Again.
Wang Yibo's POV, as he watches Xiao Zhan getting lost, lighting up, being in the wrong place - or maybe it's exactly where he's meant to be.

Work Text:

There are galaxies in your eyes;

I can see them hidden in their dark bottomlessness.

You stare into space, zoning out, getting lost.

You're in the wrong place here,

I know because you told me so;

Told me you're out of it, beside yourself,

Meant to be somewhere else.

There are galaxies in your eyes,

Entire sun systems lighting up and burning down,

Ominous mists clouding your view, colourful nebulas flashing by.

If I lean close enough, until our noses touch,

I can witness a star being born.

"A star is born," you sing softly under your breath,

And I can't help but think that you are where you're meant to be.

There are galaxies in your eyes,

Stretches of emptiness too wide to comprehend,

Nearly invisible between all the pretty, twinkling lights.

I can feel the pull of gravity, a forceful magnetism; it must be the center of the universe calling for me.

I heard you whispering about the stars the other day, about their loneliness, so far apart in the distant vastness, never touching.

People find them pretty, these lonely stars,

But if they collided, fused, circled each other for eternity,

Then maybe we would finally be in the right place, don't you think?

There are galaxies in your eyes,

And I watch every flash of light and darkness with the diligent devotion of an astrologist.

There is no need for a telescope; I just lean closer, until our noses are touching,

Trying to spy the center of the universe, hidden in the bottomlessness of your eyes.

Disrupting the dark and empty, there are entire sun systems lighting up and burning down,

And I never want to look away again.
