Excuse me, that's my husband

Summary:

Not everyone is happy about Dave's new husband, Klaus.

Notes:

Written for Day 24 of the February Ficlet Challenge. Prompt: Flotsam and Jetsam.

Work Text:

"I think that went pretty well, mom and dad seem to like you." Dave smiles at Klaus as he leads him out of the dining room where they just finished having lunch with his parents.

"of course they do, I'm a delight!" He laughs.

Dave smiles at his husband, but it drops off his face as he catches sight of someone behind Klaus.

Klaus frowns at the sudden change in his companion, and spins on his heel to face the cause of this reaction. He's met with a larger man with a sneer on his face.

"Uncle Brian," Dave greets stiffly.

"David," comes the equally clipped response.

Klaus stares between his husband and the man who is refusing to acknowledge his existence. As they stare each other down, Klaus clears his throat awkwardly.

That seems to shake Dave out of his staring match. He shoots Klaus a forced smile, squeezing his hand.

"Uncle Brian, this is my new husband, Klaus,"

Klaus extends his hand and puts on his most winning smile, "a pleasure to meet you, sir!" He chirps, ignoring the icy glare.

The man shoots a disgusted glance at the extended hand and ignores it, addressing Dave yet again.

"This piece of flotsam is your husband?" He sneers at Dave, "that's a new low, even for you David."

Dave straightens stiffly, but before he can respond, Klaus has taken a step in front of him and pulled himself to his full height.

"excuse me sir, I don't know who you are," Klaus starts, to be interrupted by a scoff from Brian.

"I don't know who you are," he tries again, "and I don't care what you say or think about me, but Dave is kind and selfless and does not need to be dealing with the likes of you!"

Brian glares at Klaus, before turning back to Dave. "Are you going to let him speak to me this way, boy?"

Before either can respond, a clear voice comes from behind them.

"BRIAN WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT SPEAKING TO MY SON IN THIS MANNER. THIS IS MY HOUSE AND YOU WILL TREAT MY FAMILY WITH RESPECT."

Dave's mother comes sweeping in, grabbing Brian by the elbow and forcefully leading him away, shooting a sympathetic smile at the two young men, waving them off.

As they leave, Dave turns to Klaus.

"Thank you," He murmurs, squeezing his hand.

Klaus squeezes back, a wide grin on his face, "anything for you, my dearest husband."

The end.
