Work Text:

Klaus fixes his new "husband" with a curious look.

"so..... I gotta ask," he starts

"why would this idiot marry a complete stranger?" Ben snarked from his corner of the room where he was casually leaning against the wall.

"I mean, yes, but also, if you're a mermaid where is your tail?" Ben lets out a bark of laughter that he tries his best to stifle when Dave shoots him a glare.

"also, am I a mermaid now? Do I have to comb my hair with a fork?" Klaus asks, lost in his thoughts, "oh! Do I get a fish best friend?"

Dave sighs resignedly, pointedly ignoring Ben, who is no longer able to hold in his laughter.

"those Disney movies really gave humans weird expectations about merfolk" Dave muttered under his breath. He took a deep breath and organized his thoughts, before starting to explain.

"we are currently on my clan's home island and while we're on land, we have legs. But once we get in the ocean, they transform into tails. And yes, before you ask, we can breathe both in and out of water. The ritual we did has made you one of us, so once you're fully recovered, I'll be helping you get a handle on the new things that come with being part of the merfolk."

"Don't forget the wedding!" Ben added from his corner.

"of course, there will need to be a royal wedding of sorts. But that can wait till you're recovered and have the basics down. But once you're feeling better my parents will want to meet you." Dave added, tilting his head to the side.

Klaus gaped the the two men, eyes darting between them before seemingly coming to a conclusion. "that's...a lot. You know what? I'm going to take a nap now, goodnight!" He squeaked before lying back down and throwing the blanket over his head.

Dave looked confused and Ben only chuckled, rolling his eyes. "looks like you've got your work cut out for you," he laughed, patting his friend on the shoulder, "at least he's cute".

With that, Ben swept out of the room, leaving Dave to watch over his new husband.
