Work Text:
Klaus comes to slowly, trying to shake the dense fog that has settled over his brain. Where is he? What happened to him? Why are there people whispering?
He tries his best to force his eyes open and sees two blurry figures at the foot of the bed he’s in. His hands grab at the blankets covering him and they’re very soft but unfamiliar. They smell like the ocean, which makes him happy. He’s always loved the ocean, the sound of waves crashing onto the shore, the feeling of sand between his toes and the heavy brine scent of sea water. Wherever he is now, it’s reminiscent of that.
He struggles to get up and the motion does not go unnoticed by the two other figures in the room. They both immediately rush over to his bed, peering down at him, concerned. They’re both very handsome brunettes, in their own way. One of them is dressed in a regal looking robe, while the other is in a leather jacket and jeans.
“Oh, thank god you’re okay,” the one in leather says, “I was worried I was a little too late.”
Klaus frowns at this, confused.
“What were you even doing that far out into the ocean?” he continues, looking stern. “Everyone knows better than to wander into the Cthulhu territory unprepared!”
Klaus tries to wrack his brain for memories of the last few days. But not much comes up. He can’t seem to remember anything past waking up in his bed on Tuesday. He looks around, there’s not a window in this room, so he can’t tell how much time has passed.
The other man approaches, “You’re lucky Ben found you and brought you here. You would have probably died otherwise. We had to perform a rather drastic life saving ritual to save you.”
“R-r-ritual?” Klaus coughs out, throat dry. Leather boy, or Ben, as the other guy addressed him, pours him a glass of water and hands it over. Klaus gulps some down gratefully.
He looks back at the other man, who seems to have gone weirdly silent as an embarrassed flush creeps over his cheeks.
Ben rolls his eyes, “What DAVE is trying very poorly to tell you, is that in order to save your life, they had to perform a soulmate ritual, binding your soul to someone else’s.”
Klaus spits his water out in surprise. Ben just smirks and pats him on the back a few times, hard.
“Look, I’m really really sorry, but that was the only way. You were so far gone that none of our other methods would have worked.” Dave explains, looking distraught.
“You’re lucky I knew the one person selfless enough to do something like that to save you.” Ben snarks.
Klaus sighs, “Alright, alright, who’s the unlucky soul who’s saddled with me until we get a soul-divorce?”
“Um... here’s the thing,” Dave begins, looking upset, “it’s forever.”
Klaus laughs, amused. “Now I feel really bad for the sucker that got the short end of that stick.”
Dave looks like he wants to be anywhere but there.
Ben’s smirk only gets wider.
Klaus’ eyes widen in realization. “YOU?” he all but shrieks.
Dave nods solemnly, looking torn.
Klaus takes a moment. “Well, I could do much worse. At least you’re pretty!”
Ben barks a laugh from the corner of the room he’s retreated to.
“Oh, he’s much more than just pretty, human.”
Klaus wrinkles his nose at being addressed as such, “My name’s Klaus.”
“Okay then, Klaus, like I said, much more than just pretty.”
Klaus looks over at Dave in askance. The man opens and closes his mouth a few times, before Ben butts back in to answer for him, waving a hand in Dave’s direction.
“Congratulations Klaus, you’re now the Prince-Consort for the Katz Mermaid Tribe!”
THE END
