Work Text:

Damian hated school.

Mother never made him go. She told him that she and grandfather could teach him everything they knew and more.

Then Mother sent him to live with his father. He decided that Damian needed school. If even Damian thought he was smarter than everyone in his class.

Apparently school was made for learning and socialising. The last part didn't seem right. No one really socialised with Damian. Not that he cared. He didn't need friends. They just got in the way of completing his father's wish for Damian to finish school.

This day seemed much worse than others. Sure, Damian was used to the teasing and racist comments, what he wasn't used to was his siblings being made fun of.

The bullying walked up to Damian.

"I'm guessing one of your brothers is picking you up?" Damian did not comment, "is it because your daddy is too busy for you?"

Damian bit his tongue.

"So, which brother is it? The circus freak, the street rat, or the unwanted one?" The bully guessed.

Damian stopped walking and turned to the bully.

"I do not appreciate how you speak of my family.

"Oh really? What will you do about it?" The bully challenged.

Damian took a deep breath he shall not fight back. Father would be very disappointed, Damian told himself.

Damian turned back and walked to the front doors of the school trying to tune out the bullies' taunts.

When he got out of the front he saw Jason with a sports car. Damian knew that Father made Jason bring that instead of the motorcycle for Damian's safety.

"Oh, it's the street rat!" A bully called out.

"Should have known your father would send the worse one for you. Send a street rat to pick up the kid that is always on the high horse," another added.

"His father probably lets the street rat smack him around a bit."

They laughed.

Damian couldn't take it anymore.

He calmly set his bag down and grabbed out his apple that he didn't have for lunch.

Damian tossed it in his hand a few times before looking at the leader of the bully group and ditched the apple at them. Hitting the leader straight in the stomach.

He feel to his knees in a cry of pain.

Damian acted fast. He grabbed his backpack and ran to Jason.

Sliding over the hood, Damian made it to the other side and jumped into the car.

Jason was already in the car once he saw what happened. Once Damian had his seatbelt on they were off.

It was silent for a bit before Jason had to say something.

"Holy shit, Demon Brat. You got him good," Jason said, sounding a bit shocked.

He didn't think the kid had it in him to attack a civilian when he was Damian and not just Robin.

"They left me with no choice. They were insulting our family. I had to stand up to them," Damian explained.

"Good shot," Jason couldn't help but add.

Damian fidget nervously.

"You won't tell father about this?" Damian asked Jason, his green eyes wide.

"Hell, no. Those little shits were bullying you. You just stood up for yourself. With how you ditched that, apple at them I think they will be leaving you alone for a while." Jason told him, "to be honest, if Bruce did find out I think he would be pretty proud."

"But I hurt someone."

"You hurt someone who was hurting you. Damian you didn't start the fight you are fine. Trust me."

Damian did trust Jason. How couldn't he? Jason was even with him when they were in the League. Jason was the only good thing about that place.

"Now," Jason started, "time for some celebration ice cream for standing up to your first bullies."

Damian couldn't help but laugh.

Who knew that Damian would be getting ice cream for throwing an apple at a bully.

Sure, school was bad but after school when he got picked up by a family was one of the best things Damian could ever hope for.
