Beck Gets Justice

Summary:

The end of season 1 except Beck is smarter and takes the keys with her.

Notes:

So I and a lot of other people were not very happy with what happened to Beck at the end of season 1 so I felt the need to write an AU where she makes it out and brings Joe to justice.

Anytime something is in italics and is surrounded by the ' symbol, it's Beck thinking.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

'He believed me. The door is open.' Joe walks in a hugs Beck, Beck hugs back. 'I gotta wait for the right moment, I can't mess this up.' Beck feels Joe look away and then back out of the hug, 'NOW!' Beck stabs Joe in the side with a typewriter key and throws him against the wall beside her, she runs out the door and locks it as Joe shouts out "Beck!"

For a moment, she is shocked at everything that she just did before her senses kick in and she grabs the keys and her phone and walks up the stairs. "Wait wait wait, please! WAIT I KNOW, I know you're angry, I know!" 'Don't say anything, don't say anything, don't say anything,' repeats in Beck's mind. "BECK, PLEASE! COME BACK!" It takes a lot to not go back and chew out Joe for all his delusions and all the bad things he did but Beck knows she can't waste any time in reporting him to the police. 'I will have all the time to yell at that monster when he is in prison.'

Beck ascends the stairs, she is met with a locked door but quickly unlocks it with the keys and relocks it to make sure Joe can't escape his fate. She runs through the bookstore, not even noticing that Paco was in the store. Beck pushes open the front doors, 'good, I'm in public, I'm safe.'

Beck dials 911, "911, what's your emergency?" "My- my name is Guinevere Beck and I have just evaded a psychopathic serial killer called Joe Goldberg who admitted to being the killer of Benjamin Ashby the third and Peach Salinger, I have locked him in the basement of the bookstore called 'Mooney's'! Send the police quickly, he could escape any minute!"

"Calm down, ma'am, we are sending someone as quickly as we can. Are you still at the bookstore?" "Yes, I'm in front of it." "Okay, what are you wearing?" 'Why does that matter!?' Beck looked at her clothes. "I am wearing a faded green and red plaid shirt and black pants, why? Are the police arriving soon?! "Yes, they should be there any second."

Finally, Beck heard police sirens and saw their cars. 'Hurry up!' The police arrived at the bookstore and Beck hung up the phone. A police officer walks up to Beck. "Ma'am, are you Guinevere Beck?" "Yes, I am. And Joe is in the store basement." "Thanks for your help, we'll take care of it from here." 'I'm not going anywhere until I see that bastard in cuffs.' Beck waits for less time than she thought she would have to.

The police start shouting before even making it to the basement, Beck is confused and looks through the window. She sees one police officer grab-!!! Paco?! What is he doing in there?! They break open the door she locked and grab Joe, this also confused Beck about how he escaped the cage but also very relieved that she locked the door.

As the police are walking out with Joe and Paco and putting them in cop cars, Beck walks up to a police officer. "What happened?" "Joe escaped the cage using a spare key we found in his pocket and then the kid tried to help him open the locked door." Beck is stunned, 'Paco must not have been aware he was trying to help a murderer.'

As Joe is being pushed into the back seat of a cop car Beck walks up to him. Joe looks up at Beck which lets Beck see that he is crying. Beck thought that he would say something out of the movies like 'I will get you someday' or 'This isn't the last you'll see of me' but Joe is silent. Beck walks away to tell her friends about all of the trauma-inducing events that have transpired. Beck walks to her home and buys curtains for the first time. 'Better safe than sorry.'

2 days later

"I still can't believe everything that has happened, Peach was taken away from us by that crazy person, Joe." "Well honestly, I can believe it, Annika, that guy always gave me the creeps. Though maybe his killing Benji was a blessing in disguise, he was so unhealthy for you. 'I am not thanking that man for anything.' "You're right Lynn, Benji was the worst."

It's been a couple of days and Beck has relayed all the events to the police and her friends. The day has come when visitation is open for Joe and Beck is going to see him to make sure he understands that it is over between them. "You sure you want to see him? I wouldn't want to." "Yes, I do and I need to go now so I'll talk to you guys later, bye." Becks walks out the door on the way to the prison.

Beck arrives at the visitation area and waits for Joe to walk out, eventually, he does and sits down adjacent to Beck. For a brief moment, they just look at each other. The moment ends and they pick up the phones, "Hey-" "why did you visit me?" Beck makes an annoyed sigh. "I came to make sure you understood that we are over and to not ever contact me again." Joe just looks at the desk for the longest time before saying

"I knew it was too good to be true." "What? All the nice things I said to you while I was locked in a cage?! You actually believe that everything you did was somehow justified?" "It was." Beck is in disbelief. "Oh god, you are insane. You think that you did some bad shit and that I did some bad shit and that this is- this is equivalent?! Yeah I lied, I cheated but I- I didn't stalk you, I didn't hit you, I didn't kill people, I didn't do any of this!" "There's not a line in the world that I wouldn't cross for you." "I didn't ask you to swoop in for me." "But you did, your life was a mess." "Yes, but it was my life! And I didn't need some sociopath on a white horse to clean house. I mean, what gives you the right? You thought that I would be grateful!?"

Beck starts to find the delusions of Joe to be funny and puts her hand over her mouth. "You. You're him. You are the bad thing. You are the thing that you should have killed. You know what I think? I think that this was all just an excuse. An excuse to justify creeping into girls' lives, and violating the shit out of them! I think you love it! The power, you love it!" "No, I don't-" "I think that this, this was the perfect excuse to take out people, like- like Benji, and Peach, who have always looked down on you and your whole miserable life. God, but you, you are not special. You're broken. I could never love you. Rot in there, you psychotic asshole! You're going to spend the rest of your life in jail.

Beck gets up and walks out as Joe puts his hands on the glass. Beck can rest easy knowing that son of a bitch is never going to go near her ever again. She is going to need a lot more therapy.

Notes:

I hope you liked this one.

Makes you realize how upset you are about a character's death when you get sad whenever you think about it even though it's fictional.
