The trio sat on the couch watching some crappy human TV show for fun in the Noceda living room.
Luz and Hunter stayed with Camila for the weekends and then the demon realm for the rest of the week so they'd invited Willow over to the human realm on a Saturday for a sleepover.
Willow was barely even focusing on the TV anymore, instead, her attention was caught by the fact that the boy she was currently crushing on was asleep on her shoulder.
She wasn't sure when she'd first started feeling this way about him but when she'd realised she'd become even more flustered around him. Not that he was any better, he was painfully obvious with his feelings.
She'd ask him on a date eventually, she just needed to figure out the right way to do it without scaring him off. It was like taming a feral cat with him, you had to take things slowly, and that was fine by her.
But right now he was fast asleep with his head leaning on her shoulder and she felt as if she might spontaneously combust at any moment.
Luz had obviously noticed and Willow was desperately shushing her laughter so she wouldn't wake Hunter. She was not letting Luz ruin this perfect opportunity for her!
"Willow, I have something for you to try!" Luz whisper-shouted.
"What is it?" Willow pried.
"Try scratching him behind the ear, like a cat!" Luz grinned.
She blushed at the thought. But now she really wanted to try it. So she contained her giggling and carefully moved to scratch behind his ear.
Nothing could have prepared her for what came next.
He started purring.
In some kind of amalgamation between a squeal and a whisper, she said, "Oh my Titan! Why is he purring!"
Luz was currently hysterical. She was desperately trying to keep herself quiet but in the process just made herself laugh even more.
"This is absolutely adorable and I am so doing this from now on but what is going on?!" Willow questioned.
"It's a grimwalker thing." Luz clarified. "They're made with stonesleeper lungs and stonesleepers purr when you scratch behind their ears, I wanted to see if Hunter did too and I guess we've got an answer."
Luz had been helping Hunter research Grimwalkers. Most books on them had been banned by Belos, probably so that Hunter or any of the previous Golden Guards wouldn't accidentally read about them and figure it out, but now that he was dead, they'd been able to dig up some of the old books and get to work on research. Hunter hadn't wanted to go through it alone and Luz had immediately volunteered to help him so the two now spent time testing out the accuracy of the statements in the old books.
She felt Hunter shift and was worried she or Luz had accidentally woken him, but instead, he laid down in her lap, head on her thighs, still purring softly and oh my Titan could he get any cuter.
"Oh my God, he looks like a cat!" Luz exclaimed, still trying and barely managing to keep her voice at a whisper.
"A very cute cat." Willow smiled down at him.
"I am so using this as blackmail for our next argument..." Luz schemed.
Willow was just happy dying over how cute her crush was. Hunter had been so afraid to tell them all that he was a grimwalker, he'd thought they would hate him and Willow had no clue why he'd think that.
Not many people can say their crush can purr while they lay in your lap and you scratch them like a cat!
