Some of the skeletons are very small, or weirdly formed. They lay in piles across the uneven ground, the glow of the light casting long odd shadows that bury themselves in the deeper shadows of the corners. Darius sends the light floating down into the pit, and Hunter can see some are much older than others. The bones are for the most part intact. Masks are scattered around like golden coins spilled carelessly. He has the passing thought that he might look too closely and see his own mask, his own shattered body lying there. Dead and entombed. -

Hunter and Luz and the great american road trip.

Hunter comes out of a gas station, arms full of goodies, and calls to Luz who’s filling up. “What’s sushi?”
Luz shakes out the last dribble and takes the little plastic container from his hands. “Is this gas station sushi?” she asks.
“Does it matter where it’s from?”
“Hunter. Fish should be fresh. This may have never seen an ocean.”
“Does that mean we’re not going to eat it?”
“Nah, it means we’re idiots,” says Luz. "At least we’re self-aware.” She pops the lid off and scarfs down one of the little rolls. Her second one she chews thoughtfully, holding the container out for him.
Hunter takes a bite. “Damn,” he says, and downs it whole, gulping loudly. “Tastes like food poisoning.”
Luz swallows her third piece. “Delicious food poisoning.”
“I think you’re just hungry. You know I bought other food too, right?”
“Gas station sushi is a right of passage and I want to celebrate this with you,” says Luz.
“Thanks,” says Hunter.
“I don’t want you to suffer alone.”

Camila nods. “Those are hard.”
“And, says Hunter, drawing up his courage. “I’ve been worried. About. Some things.”
Camila takes a sip of tea, looking completely at ease, like there was nothing more she’d rather be doing at this time of night than listen to him. “Like what?”
“What if I wasn’t a witch? What if I was something else? Something worse?”

Cold fingers intertwined with his, clambering closer, and under the covers cold feet pressed against– and for one horrible moment, through– his legs. L settled back to stare at the ceiling for however long he would end up indulging the dead monster in his bed.
He wondered, sometimes, what they looked like from the outside. What he looked like from the outside. It had started out as a game, so long ago. A game with very high stakes, but a game nonetheless. And then, a triumph for justice, leaving L with the foul taste of victory on his lips. Light had looked so scared, those last few moments. When he looked L in the eye and dared him to do it.

She had to let go before Zooble ripped her forearms clean off. Zooble swiped through the tablet almost angrily as they muttered, “I don’t even know what you’re so pressed about. It’s not like your derby rider was that pretentious about – ”
Zooble cut themself off and went very, very silent.
Pomni’s mouth went dry. Dryer than it’d been even after a stress of time without real water. She watched, scared for a reason she couldn’t place, as both of Zooble’s detachable eyes widened. She could have sworn that their hot pink face turned almost salmon for a quick second before returning to its original shade. They set down the tablet and turned.
“Ragatha,” they said slowly, “why does the catalogue of NPCs include a mock-up of Jax?”

So, it didn’t start out like this.
Alfred would scoff at the statement, about how Bruce was trying to justify the whole situation to himself. It had started out as a simple design, black everything with black outlines and black hood. It got a little more intense as the world went on, got wind of his ghost on the streets, and became scared of The Bat . So Bruce got a little more creative with it, Alfred and him had a good laugh over the name, the scare, and Alfred had a vicious streak of humor that he had passed onto his ward-
So now the suit had a visible bat-theme, an insignia to drape in the shadows and to paint across the streets of Gotham.
It only took a year into the whole charade of heroism for Bruce to overhear a conversation between some goons- some low level thug hired by the Riddler this week- about nothing at all pertaining to what the hell the Riddler was doing in the sewers but instead:
“ The Batman can fly, you know, I’ve seen his wings.”
