So when he finds a strange new friend, who offers him a curious way out of his anxious predicament, he takes it - only to start slipping away in front of everyone's eyes.

No, Jax’s attachment was something less obvious, but extremely meaningful to the lavender hare. It’s eyes constantly being on her, taking notice of every small thing from her expressive face to her nervous pulling at the pompoms decorating her outfit. Jax can't stop replaying the fight with Pomni in his head. Frustrated with her, himself, with the entire circus and he knows he has only himself to blame. In a moment of anger he has the brief thought that things would have been easier if she'd just never arrived in the circus. He doesn't believe that, not really, but it's enough for his brain to take and run with. But he reasons that despite the small flash of guilt, it's not like him thinking that matters. It's not like he has the power to make that true.
... right?? Right?
So then why, upon waking up the next morning, is the wall across from him bare? No Pomni, not even her picture with a red X over it, not even a placeholder door. The others didn't seem to know who he was talking about when he spoke her name. Something was so, very wrong right now. He'd fix this, he would.
