"Jumin!" Min-Jung calls from the foyer of the penthouse. "Come on or we'll be late!" They're set to meet the other members of the RFA at the zoo for a fun outing, and Min-Jung already has Eun in her car seat. She smiles down at the dark-haired baby. The little girl looks much like her mother when she was small, but Min-Jung never had hair that dark. That's all Eun's daddy.
Her phone rings with a call, and she brings it up to answer it. "Hello?"
"Min-Jung? Have you and Mr. Han left yet?" Jaehee asks.
"We haven't," Min-Jung sighs. "I'm not sure where Jumin is or what he's doing. I asked him to get the diaper bag. Eun and I are all ready to go."
Jaehee echoes the sigh on the other end of the call. "Well, we're all here and waiting for you. Try and get him to leave, and I wish you luck on your task."
"I'm going to need it," Min-Jung laughs and hits the hang up button.
She stands there for another minute, wondering where her husband could possibly be. All she asked him to do was pack the diaper bag. There's no way that would take this long. "How about we go find your missing daddy, huh?" The 3-month-old just stares at her mom, and Min-Jung chooses to take that as agreement. "I knew you'd agree with me, baby."
The car seat is clicked into a stroller, and Min-Jung rolls the baby through the rooms of the house until she makes it to their bedroom. "Jumin?" she calls, but she gets no answer. "Where in the world is he?" She goes into the kitchen, the living room, and the study just to check, but she's pretty sure she knows where he is.
She finally finds him in the nursery where she thought he'd be, but his appearance makes her stop short. "Jumin…what are you doing?"
He turns toward her, the diaper bag, the back-up diaper bag, the backpack, and several other miscellaneous items are packed onto his person. "I'm gathering up what we need."
Min-Jung looks at him with her mouth open and blinks several times. "We only need the diaper bag," she protests, too surprised to say anything else.
"I have the diaper bag," Jumin replies, patting the bag on his back.
"But we don't need the rest," Min-Jung responds, still gaping at her husband.
"It's better to be prepared for any eventuality," he declares with a huff, straightening his polo shirt, which is a feat considering how many bags and blankets he is carrying.
"Jumin," Min-Jung says with authority, "we don't need that much stuff. We only need an extra outfit, some diapers and wipes, the baby powder, an extra pacifier, the bottle I pumped, a few toys, a burp rag, and her emergency blanket. That's it."
"What if her outfit gets dirty? What if her back up outfit gets dirty? What if she spills milk on that outfit? We need several outfit changes. I have packed eight." He gestures to the smaller diaper bag on his right shoulder. "You packed her teddy bear, but what if she wants her bunny? Or her cat? What if she'd rather have the cloth toy with the ribbons? Or her teething toys?" He points to the backpack on his left shoulder.
"Jumin, she's 3 months old. She hasn't started teething yet. And she can barely hold a toy." Eun glances over at him with a slightly judgmental look on her tiny face. She must get that from her father. His withering glare can make most people nearly faint.
Good thing Min-Jung isn't most people or these two would be able to get away with anything.
"She may start teething while we're out."
Min-Jung just buries her face in her hands, her brown hair falling in front of her like a curtain to shade her misery. "And the coat and blankets?"
"It might get cold. Or snow."
"It's summer," Min-Jung says, peeking an eye through her fingers at her ridiculous husband.
"I am prepared for any eventuality," he declares proudly. "I will not be caught unaware."
"Jumin, honey, no. We can't take that much stuff. We'll be fine with the one bag, I promise."
Jumin looks uncomfortable and like he wants to argue. "But what if something happens?"
It's at that point that Min-Jung realizes what's happening. This is the first time they've taken Eun anywhere that isn't his office or the doctor. Jumin is probably getting nervous about taking their little girl out into the world and beyond the safety of the penthouse. She can't be too mad at him when he's being this caring, but she needs to make sure that he knows it will be okay and that nothing untoward will happen to them. "We'll buy a new outfit if she ruins both. We'll come back home if there is a big problem that can't be handled in public. It's just the zoo, Jumin. We can do this," Min-Jung soothes, running her hand up and down Jumin's arm and offering him a sweet smile.
He nods and lets out a breath through his nose. She didn't even notice before how tense his shoulders were until he relaxes them. It's like an incredibly heavy weight has been lifted off of him. "Very well." He drops the other bags and keeps the diaper bag on his back. "Let us go and meet the others."
"Jaehee called and they're already all there. Just waiting on us," Min-Jung reveals.
Min-Jung stands on her tiptoes and Jumin meets her for a kiss. Turning the stroller around, they walk out of the nursery and back through the penthouse. The elevator ride down to the lobby is relaxed, and Eun looks at the bright lights of the panel with interest. Jumin smiles down at the little girl and glances over at his wife. These two are his entire world.
Once they reach the bottom, Min-Jung grasps Jumin's hand, and they make their way through the front door of the building for their outing, where they don't even need the extra outfit.
Or the extra pacifier.
Or the ten extra diapers.
