Red-eyed demon, the devil's eyes, Jutsu thieves and more. The Uchiha clan's eyes have been reviled and coveted since the dawn of time. So Sasuke's not sure why he's so surprised. Maybe it's because the betrayal comes from the village he was taught to trust. Through a series of bizarre coincidences and unfortunate luck, Sasuke finds out that the village he swore to protect is working together with Orochimaru to commit bloodline theft against his (one-man) clan. Somewhere out in the Elemental Nations he has a family hidden away in a laboratory that he is duty bound to protect. His family already died. He refuses to let his potentially new family die as well.
Abandoning the village he grew up in, Sasuke immerses himself deep into Otogakure and Orochimaru's esteem in the hunt for his missing family. There's nothing he won't do. No line he won't cross. As long as he finds them.

Seriously think about what it says about a village that puts it into their daughters' heads to romantically pursue a traumatized not-yet ten year old suddenly-wealthy boy; into their sons' heads to scorn a traumatized boy for his "bad attitude" and poor teamwork (even after said 'kind' team-oriented village utterly failed him post-culling) and supposed Clan curse yet also to use him as a goal to beat and tool to use; and into all their used-abused child soldiers' heads whom it neglected, ignored, set up and/or left to fail (yes, this even includes Sakura, Tenten, Lee and others who got treated as cannon fodder unless someone conveniently took pity on them) and so on to love and praise the hand that neglected and abused them -- and that to do otherwise, no matter what wrongs had been done them, was disloyal. That there's what we in my neck of the internet-woods call signs of corruption, criminal abuse and neglegence, cult-like brainwashing, and overall being a PoS buncha greedy government fucks!

You owe your abusers nothing; everything they gave to you was either already yours by right, or a choice they freely made to offer up but can never be equal to the cost they took from you in blood, tears, health, prosperity and so on -- so unless you need to 'square up' for your own protection, don't you give a damn about 'repaying' goods or 'owing loyalty'.

TL;DR -- Fuck Konoha. The Uchiha Massacre was genocide, Itachi is not a hero, Team Seven was toxic as fuck, and Uchiha Sasuke "Has Issues" because he got screwed over by damn near everyone and even though he's often an asshole (particularly when older, but what do you expect from a multiple-mind raped, manipulated, tortured Clan cull-survivor being hounded for everything left he has to give?) he still Deserves Better than what canon gave him. -
