Chapter Text
When I got the call from Sam I cant say I was expecting it.
"Theres a job I have to do and I need someone to watch Steve. Are you up for it?"
"Of course! Suzie is out of town and I can watch him for a while. How long?"
"I'll drop him off tonight. I should be back in 2 days."
I got the house ready, a room prepared and food made. My moms lasagna. Steve always loved it when he would come over. That was when he was a Harrington. It still hurts. Everything that happened in the 80s. God I hope he didnt remember those years.
I know he didnt remeber us. We babysat him before. He is such an adorable kid.
Technically speaking hes maybe a year and a few months. Almost 2 years. He is the son of the archangel Gabriel. I have never met him but his other parent, Sam Winchester, I often saw.
He was a lawyer- or going to be. He went to college and worked a part time job. He was a witch. He helped his brother with whatever it was Dean did. He had 2 jobs for a while before Gabriel started helping financially with Steve. He loved his son. Steven Dean is what he calls him, if it's not little prince or stardust. I will however always call him Steve.
Steve saved me many times when I was a kid. I didnt appreciate most of that even being scared of him at some point. Now it's my turn to protect him.
He was 7. Steve was. But only because of Gabriel.
"Dustin? You home?" Sam's here. Opening the door I smiled seeing the 6'4 man who looked exhausted. In his arms was Steve. I wasnt wrong when I said he should be a year or so however being a Nephilim he was slightly older.
"Sam you should sleep-"
"Thanks Henderson but I gotta get to Dean to help with something." He kissed his sons head and sat him down. "Be good for Dustin okay Stardust?" Steve nodded hugging onto his dad. "I love you Steven Dean. I'll be back soon." He promised and left.
Steve turned to look at me. It was easy to see the similarities between the two. I knelt infront of the kid and smiled. "I made some lasagna whenever you get hungry" he just blinked at me.
Steve was never much of a talker. He'd always listen. Steve was a listener and I know he remembered. Despite what many believed, he was smart. He could tell you something he heard years ago. Always remembered or noticed what others didnt. I suppose as a child he wasn't different. But here his eyes were full of life and love while when I knew him the love and life had been beaten out of him by Richard and Diane Harrington.
"All the love you have. How about a game?" Steve smiled and nodded. How could anyone hurt this kid?
Of course the kid was good. Not a teen yet so I got time till karma pays a visit.
"The lasagna was the best. May I have some more?"
"Of course kiddo," I said. I froze. I hated when he called me that but now-
"Dustin?"
"Sorry just... lost in thought"
The kid got ready for bed after his father called with Dean in the background.
The next day was the same. Wake up, play with the kid, let him watch TV. He was out back when Sam got back.
"Daddy!" He shouted running over and hugging the man.
"Was he good?"
"Perfect. I'm up for this whenever you need. Bye kiddo,"
"Bye Dustin!"
I watched the Winchesters leave that day in a worn down car. I felt the pity for that small family set in. Sam went to college and worked a job while often helping Dean with whatever it was. The other father was never around, always gone and the poor kid with two lives and a tired father that look ready to collapse. I felt the pity for the small family but yet envy for the pure happiness they had.
