Summary:

Shen Wei learns that Ye Zun has found a way out of his pillar and is about to wreck havoc on Haixing.
Meanwhile Ye Zun, still stuck in Dixing, learns that Shen Wei has gone to the dark side. The hypocrisy!

Notes:

Oh gosh, this is gonna be cracky, I can feel it in my bones. And my brain. :)

I have a ~plan-ish~ where this is going to go and can promise there will be a happy ending all around (except maybe for Zhu Jiu I guess).
The relationship tag might change in favor of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan, but I'm not sure yet.

This is the first time I'm dipping my toes into writing for the Guardian fandom, I'm a little excited :)

Always happy to talk and obsess, either in the comments or on tumblr (I'm @geistbrot or @nauticalypso)

And yes yes, the title is super pretentious lol. I stared at it for ten minutes and then went "eh. :) "

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“I am terribly sorry, I must have misunderstood - he is doing what ?” Shen Wei looked at the Flower Yashou as if she had sprouted a second head (which… might be possible?).

“It seems that he is gardening”, the Yashou replied, slightly confused and not quite understanding the problem.

Shen Wei pursed his lips. “Gardening?”

The Yashou nodded. “Yes. I am told he even uses lukewarm water.”

“Lukewarm water.”

“Yes. And special soil for the Orchids and Roses.”

Shen Wei nodded. "Yes, of course. Special soil for the Orchids and Roses.”

The Yashou beamed. “It is all really considerate of him.”

“Most certainly."

“Is there anything else we can help Lord Envoy with?” the Yashou asked, rustling her leaves in the wind, and Shen Wei smiled at her.

“I thank you for your help, it is greatly appreciated as it is - but might there be any chance I could trouble you to… keep an eye on him and his… gardening?”

The Yashou made a little bow and shook her head. “No trouble at all, we will be glad to watch over Lord Envoy’s little brother,” she said.

Shen Wei returned the bow. “Then I thank you again and wish you a good night,” he said. Then he opened a portal. Stepped through. Grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.

Ye Zun was in Haixing. Two cities over. And, apparently, living his best life looking after the flowers in his garden.

Shen Wei shook his head. No, there was absolutely no way Ye Zun had broken out of the pillar, given up any sinister plans, and just put his hands to work on some soil. There had to be one of those aforementioned sinister plans behind it all. Possibly even sinister plants - did he maybe have a garden full of poisonous flowers? But there would be no need for Orchids and Roses there - or was the Flower Yashou mistaken?

Shen Wei frowned. It didn’t make any sense at all. Moreover, if Ye Zun really had escaped his pillar, the SID had to be informed. Zhao Yunlan, who Shen Wei was pretty sure was actually Kunlun, had to be informed.

Because should the SID get the information about a powerful Dixingren and then start an investigation and then discover Ye Zun and then take a good look at Ye Zun and his very strong twin genes and then take a good look at Shen Wei… yeah.

And there was also the “very powerful = very dangerous” part of the equation, and Shen Wei had just gotten Kunlun back. There was no way he could be sneaky in protecting him from Ye Zun, who, again, very much looked like poor, innocent, and totally not suspicious Professor Shen.

Better to rip it off like a bandaid. Better to do it now before his courage left him.

Mind made up, sleeve garters in place, keychain secured, Shen Wei opened a portal and stepped through it into Zhao Yunlan’s apartment on the other side of the hallway.

What followed was a scream, a crash, a “holy shit!!” and a panicked “Why would you watch TV naked?!”

“He’s doing WHAT??” Ye Zun hissed, glaring at Zhu Jiu.

Zhu Jiu crossed his arms. “According to Ya Qing, he works in an underground criminal organisation and had his hands in the deaths of several people. Last word on the streets is that he was responsible for mass releases at an infamous workplace.”

Ye Zun stared at his underling. “Word on the street is… my brother is straight up killing people?”

Zhu Jiu nodded.

“And berefting them of their livelihood?”

Zhu Jiu nodded.

“And working for an underground criminal organisation??”

Zhu Jiu made a so-so movement, because “actually, he seems to be the heir to said underground criminal organisation.”

“WHAT?! The hypocrisy!!” Ye Zun howled.

Zhu Jiu didn’t dare roll his eyes, but Ye Zun must have noticed the sentiment, and the projection bared his teeth at Zhu Jiu.

“Return to Haixing at once! Tell Ya Qing to let the crows continue to spy on my brother! I want to know everything! What is he thinking, going darkside, that is my job!”

Zhu Jiu nodded dutifully. Ye Zun glared again.

“And one more thing,” he said, almost sweetly.

Zhu Jiu tilted his head. “Yes?”

“GET ME OUT OF THIS FUCKING PILLAR!!”

Meanwhile in Hangzhou, two cities north of Dragon City, Wu Xie was a little confused about the massive flower growth in his garden and that extremely suspicious looking murder of crows on his front lawn.

Notes:

Yes, Dragon City and Hangzhou are on the same planet now.
No, I don't know how that works ._.
