Work Text:
You smiled as you swatted at Sebastian quietly, ducking behind a bookshelf as Peeves floated by. Sebastian only shook his head as he smiled back, quietly trying to put a book away that the two of you had taken from the restricted section the night before. You peeked around the corner, following the ghost with your eyes while Sebastian tried to find the next book he was after, muttering to himself as he read the spine of each book quickly. You watched as Peeves continued his rounds, clearly searching for Sebastian, who had a record of spending time after hours in the restricted section and loved fetching the librarian to watch her give Sebastian detention.
You jump slightly as Sebastian placed his hand to your back, nodding that he found what he was after and that it was time to go. You scanned the area once more as you quickly retreated to follow Sebastian, head hung low to stay hidden. He smiled back at you in triumph, waving the book in front of you as he walked. You shook your head as you closed your eyes for a moment. “Put it away, before someone sees it in your hand!” You whispered, smiling as you grabbed the sleeve of his robe. He scoffed quietly as he put it in his bag, turning to head down another row of shelves lined with books. “Peeves won't hang around too long, and by the time he finds us we’ll already be gone.” He whispered matter-of-factly. You shook your head once again, looking behind you to see if Peeves was anywhere nearby.
You sneaked around a few more shelves, Sebastian stopped a few times to look at some books, only moving when you poked him in the side. “We can’t stay here long, remember?” You whispered, taking the lead as you poked your head around a shelf, spotting the next route to take. You motioned for Sebastian to follow you as he sighed, putting a book back when you raised a brow. You quickly tiptoed across the room, stopping when you reached another shelf, turning to see if Sebastian had followed you. He did, of course, right behind you. He crashed into you, sending you to the ground with a thud as you gasped. Sebastian fell on top of you, eyes wide as he quickly placed his hand over your mouth. You glared up at him, his eyes apologetic as he quickly looked around. He sighed quietly as he slowly removed his hand from your mouth as the library stayed quiet. You sat up and moved from under him, dusting your robe as you narrowed your eyes at him.
“Are you serious?” You whispered, lightly swatting at him when he tried to help you up. “Why were you so close?” Sebastian raised his hands in defense, a slight blush to his cheeks. “To make sure you didn’t get caught?” He said, causing you to narrow your eyes. “How would that help? If someone saw me, they would have seen you right behind me!” Sebastian tried not to laugh as you scolded him, his lips tightening as he held back a smile. You furrowed your brows as you got to your feet. “What’s so funny? Do you want detention?” You asked, crossing your arms as he shook his head, a slight smile on his lips. “Of course not, but you have to admit, this is rather fun.” “Fun? You knocked me over.” “But I saved you.”
You sighed and shook your head as you turned away from Sebastian, feeling your cheeks heat up as you remembered that Sebastian had, in fact, landed on top of you, covering your mouth so you didn’t cry out when you hit the ground. “Wouldn’t have had to do that if you paid attention.” “Attention, attention! Attention is right! What a sight, two students sneaking in the library at night!” You groaned as you closed your eyes, slowly turning around with tight lips as you were met with Peeves. Sebastian quickly shook his head as he tried to talk to Peeves. “Not sneaking! Can’t you rest for a night?” You shook your head as you brought a hand to pinch the bridge of your nose, sighing. “A rest? Why rest when there are students sneaking around! Perhaps you will pay more attention, in detention!” Sebastian yelled after Peeves, who disappeared as he went to fetch the librarian. “Come back, you damn poltergeist!”
You shook your head as you watched Sebastian search for a place to hide. “Whatever you’re planning, you know it won't work.” You said, crossing your arms. Sebastian looked back at you, glaring as he raised his arms, gesturing around him. “Well? Do you have any ideas? She’s going to be here any moment to send us off, and then we’ll have to spend the time we had in detention instead of something far more important.” You pinched the bridge of your nose as you sighed, whispering. “We wouldn’t be in this situation if you had paid attention, remember? This is on you.” He scoffed, walking over to you. “I’m not covering for you again! You still owe me from last time.” You nodded, biting the inside of your cheek. The sound of hurried footsteps began to surface, no doubt from the heels of the librarian as she followed Peeves. “I’ll pay my debt to you now then, but if you even try anything I will personally toss you to Peeves, got it?” Sebastian furrowed his brows in confusion as the steps grew closer.
“Pucker up, lover boy.” You whispered, grabbing his collar, and planting your lips onto his as the librarian turned down another aisle. Sebastian tensed up at the sudden intimacy, but quickly wrapping his arms around you to deepen the kiss; unsure if your idea was to have a random make out session in front of the librarian, who had yet to turn down to where the two of you were. You closed your eyes as you felt his soft lips against your own; the slight taste of butterbeer lingering on his lips reminded you about what you had done before you decided to sneak around the library, a nice trip to Hogsmeade. Your cheeks heated up as you realized that you hadn’t actually thought the plan through, only getting as far as you were now, unsure how to continue.
Sebastian smiled into the kiss, taking over as he peeked through his lashes, finding the librarian glare at the two of you from across the room, stomping over to the two silhouettes she saw. He ran his fingers through your hair as he continued to kiss you, smirking as the librarian gasped, turning away from the two of you when she was close enough to see what was happening. “Mr. Sallow! As glad as I am that you are not stealing from my shelves again, must you get so handsy with another student in my library?” You chuckled as you hid your face from her, burying it in his shoulder as he gasped for air, red in the face as he stuttered to her. “Sorry! Won’t happen again, I promise!” She sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose, turning away as she left. “Please leave. If you must snog with another student, please do it somewhere more private.” “Yes Ma’am.”
Peeves floated above the two of you, frustrated that he didn’t get you in trouble. “Free to go, you are. Sneaky, very sneaky. Next time, then.” And with a smile, Peeves disappeared. You kept your face buried in Sebastian’s shoulder; face hot in embarrassment as you tried to catch your breath. Surprised that your plan actually worked, you were unsure what to do next as you stood in his embrace, listening to his breathing as he chuckled. “Amazing. I can’t believe that worked!” He breathed, his heart beating at a fast pace from the excitement. You nodded slowly, clearing your throat as you removed yourself from his grasp, fixing your robes as you avoided eye contact. You looked around, breathing heavily as you looked for the exit, quickly moving to the door. “Wait up, y/n!” Sebastian said, following you out of the library.
“How did you know that would work?” Sebastian asked, walking down the hall next to you as you continued to try to calm your heart. You shrugged, staring at the ground as you walked. “I didn’t. Figured we’d still get scolded, actually.” Sebastian scoffed as he smiled at you, grabbing your arm. “So, you decided to kiss me, not knowing if it would work or not?” You shook your head frantically, stuttering. “No! That’s not what I meant!” Sebastian smirked as he watched your flustered face, trying to explain the logic behind what you did. You glared at him, crossing your arms as you tried to cool your cheeks as your thoughts raced. “What? Are you going to say something dumb?” You said, puffing out your cheeks as you turned away, unable to look at Sebastian’s face after the ordeal. He chuckled as he moved closer, grabbing your arm to turn you to him.
“I can say that I appreciate it, getting out of detention.” He said, smiling at you. You felt your cheeks heat up even more at the closeness. “I can also say, I wouldn’t mind do that more often.” Your eyes widened as your heartbeat faster. “What, sneak into the library? We already do that enough.” You said, trying to play off what you thought he meant. Sebastian’s smile grew as he watched you, shaking his head. “I was mainly talking about that stunt you pulled, after you said that was you repaying me.” You chuckled slightly as your cheeks grew even hotter, glancing up at Sebastian. “I said not a word about it.” You pouted, playfully glaring at him. He shook his head, shrugging. “I think we could make that normal occurrence, if you wanted.”
You sighed, glancing around the hall and back to Sebastian. You quickly placed a kiss to his lips, feeling him smile as he wrapped an arm around your waist. You lightly tapped his cheek before you parted from him, giving him a smile. “Keep quiet about it and maybe you’ll get more.” “Absolutely.”
