It’s a quiet and reflective moment during the night that brings her confession to the surface
This is different, she thinks softly as she lies in his arms.
Good but different.
Sure, steady and warm.
Partnership, passion, and fire.
It is everything she has never had.
And it's everything she is terrified of losing.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Tim's warm and steady voice cuts through her thoughts as his long fingers run a lazy trail over her shoulders and into the mess of her hair.
“You know me so well,” she says with a roll of her eyes as she peers up at him before placing a soft kiss under his chin.
“Too well,” they both say at the exact same moment, laughing at the kismet of it all.
The laughter gives way to a quiet moment of reflection. He allows them the solace of quiet comfort before nudging her gently, encouraging her to continue on and share what has been plaguing her thoughts.
He wants to know.
He wants to know her in all the ways.
He wants to know her mind. He wants to know her thoughts. He wants to know her worries. He wants to know her joy. He wants to know her laughter. He wants to know her ramblings. He wants to know her quiet moments.
He wants it all.
He wants all of her.
He is desperate for it, he realizes.
He is absolutely addicted to this new iteration of them, this partnership and passion they have found.
He loves that he knows her in a whole new way.
And he loves that he is known by her.
And to be known by Lucy Chen, the actual embodiment of sunlight and fire? There is nothing like it, he notes to himself as he waits for her to share her thoughts.
“I've never done this before,” she says as she goes to hide her face in his chest, “I've never been in love before,” she says quietly into the darkness of the room as she presses a soft kiss to the place above his heart.
His heart skips a beat at her confession but waits for her to continue, knowing that there is more that she hasn't said.
“And I'm scared I'm gonna screw it all up,” she continues in a rush, “I've done relationships before, yes. But... nothing like this. I've never been in a whole relationship, a real and adult relationship. Having a partner and being that person's partner. I've never had a person, never had a relationship that I cared enough about to..” she trails off as she goes to look up at Tim.
His stare is sure and steady, and so completely Tim Bradford.
“Me neither,” he states as he leans down to kiss her gently.
“But-”
“I've been married, I've had relationships, yes. But nothing like this,” he says as he places a soft kiss on the tip of her nose before quickly rolling her onto her back, “But this is different, we are different.”
“We won't screw this up,” he promises her.
He towers over her, placing a strong arm on either side of her head, “We are different,” he finishes as he leans down to capture her mouth in a kiss.
“We are different,” she agrees right before she surrenders to him, to them.
And they are different, she thinks lovingly.
They are kismet.
