Work Text:
The mission was a disaster.
Anything and everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.
The group got seperated, Akutagawa was injured, and nobody knows where the hell Dazai ended up by.
The fate of the city fell into the hands of Chuuya and Atsushi. Two individuals who had never worked together, both more brawn than brain, but neither was one to quit or give up when things got hard, so they preserved and they won!
Leaning against one another for support, the two began making their way to the extraction point, unwilling to allow the other to drop before they were safe.
"Good work out there kid, you got guts!" Chuuya said, speaking up for the first time since the fight ended.
Atsushi smiles, "Thanks…" he replied softly, he'd initially been weary of working with the Executive when the two had gotten separated, only knowing of his livewire relationship with Dazai and that he was a monster on the battlefield… he hadn't expected him to be someone to risk his own life for someone from an opposing organization– even if they did have a truce and where temporary allies.
But he had, putting himself in danger to protect Atsushi when things got rough and risking the mission to make sure he was okay.
His oddly violent version of kindness and willingness to trust his judgment in a high stress situation was something Atsushi thought he could get used to.
When Atsushi's foot got caught on an uneven piece of concrete, almost causing them to topple over, Chuuya used his ability to catch them and ease their landing.
The two sat there on the ground, clutching at each other, just trying to catch their breaths before Chuuya suddenly burst into laughter.
Bright, loud and filled with relief, "holy shit, we're fucked up! I don't think I can stand back up" he said, still laughing as he rested his head against Atsushi's shoulder.
Atsushi couldn't help but join him in his laughter, it reminded him that they were both still alive, that they made it out of what had seemed like an unwinnable situation and survived together.
He wasn't sure what motivated him to do so, but suddenly Atsushi was turning his head to the side and catching Chuuya's lips with his own.
When he eventually pulled back and looked into the blue inferno that were Chuuya Nakahara's eyes, he began to babble out an apology for his actions, unsure of when drove him to seek that kind of comfort from a near stranger, only for Chuuya to cut him off guard by kissing him again, pulling him close as he fell back into the rubble behind him.
The kiss was filled with heat and passion, the relief of surviving unimaginable odds…
It was nice, and Chuuya was a very good kisser.
"Let's just stay here, wait for the others to come find us." Chuuya said when they eventually parted, "I wasn't kidding when I said I wasn't sure I could get back up."
Atsushi nodded in agreement, "Yeah… we can stay here." He replied, resting his head on Chuuya's chest as he felt fingers begin carding their way through his hair.
Sitting together, basking in one anothers warmth and sharing the occasional kiss, the two waited for someone to find them among the rubble and destruction of their hard won battle.
