Work Text:
There hadn't been any certainty that the splash potion would work, but Eda was relieved to see that it did. Raine regained consciousness almost immediately. Their body ached with a dull pain from the traces left by Belos when he'd gone.
But that was the least of their concerns.
Their legs gave out and they fell to their knees. Now they were face-to-face with Eda, and it was impossible to ignore that she was covered in splotches of blood.
"Oh my Titan. Eda..."
She locked eyes with them. "Raine," she said, relieved, with a shaky breath.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, Raine, it's okay," she said gently.
"I tried to fight him, but I--" they rasped.
"I know. I know you did."
"I didn't mean to hurt you."
"I know, Raine. It's okay," Eda reassured.
"But it's not," they said through their tears. "Oh, Titan. Are you alright? Hold still, let me look at you--"
"I'm fine, really. I'm just glad you're back."
They sucked in a breath. There was this awful feeling in their limbs, almost like burning, but selfless as they were, they ignored it, saving all their worry for their beloved Eda instead.
"Eda, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen," they said, pain in their voice.
Eda placed her hand on their cheek. "It wasn't your fault, Raine. Belos did this, not you. Don't apologize." She insisted.
Raine didn't look any less distraught, but they quieted.
"C'mere," she reached her arm out and they collapsed into her. "It's okay."
Raine struggled to hold back from crying. But eventually they gave in. They let it out, and Eda did her best to comfort them.
"It's okay. Take it easy."
They didn't feel like it was okay. They felt like an absolute mess. They felt sick and overwhelmed. And their humiliating breakdown wasn't helping.
"I'm here. We're safe. You're safe." Eda whispered.
They still felt like a wreck, but hearing those words made them feel like slightly less of a wreck. They continued crying, for no telling how long, to the point of exhaustion, but somewhere in the back of their mind, they knew it wouldn't last.
They had Eda. the two of them would get through it together.
