Jal's Character Sheet

Summary:

A simple 3-section document for developing a compelling character. Since I mentioned it on the Snapechat Podcast, I've been asked a few times for this character sheet, so here it is!

Notes:

If you have work skins turned off, the tables might look goofy.

There are a handful of footnotes that explain how I use the document. You can do what you want with it, of course!

You are welcome to try copy-pasting this into any word processing application you like, but it might be easiest to open my Google Docs version of it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eN1Pg43rwR9PDfBpvvHpZNftytth8fjWI9TrFqVERMg/.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Footnotes

  1. "Physical Descriptors" -- Some writers like to do this up-front, but I challenge you to avoid crafting a "look" until you actually need it for your story. Fill in this box as you write, referencing or adding to it every time you use a physical descriptor.
  2. "Brief Personality" -- Recommend 1 sentence max. For example, if I was filling this out for Severus Snape, I might say "brilliant master of potions and dark arts, with snarky wit and no patience for dunderheads"
  3. Relationships Table -- Best to use a document that makes it easy to add rows, such as the Google Docs Version

Notes:

I'd love to know if you find this helpful, or if you use a different one, or other character-building tools you like!
