Summary
The aftermath of killing Yamata no Orochi was almost as much of a nightmare as actually killing him already was. Asuka’s memories of the day are hazy, half because it had been one exhausting event after another and half because Asuka doesn’t truly want to remember, either.
Slumped on a chair by Izumi’s bedside tonight, though, Asuka has no choice but to recall: how they had searched the wreckage and rubble for hours in the aftermath of the attack, how she’d almost given up hope of even finding a body, then how one of Peace Land’s soldiers had unearthed a strange, gooey mass of black sludge. How Asuka had realized, after several long seconds of stunned silence, that the way it was pulsing slowly but rhythmically was it breathing.
Against all odds, Izumi lives after the events of Peace Land.
