The sun had set, and the forest was engulfed in darkness. You had no idea what was lurking in the shadows as you walked in between the trees, searching for a few sticks to keep the camp fire going. Usually you would send Kelvin to gather wood but it was too dark and you didn't want him to risk his life in the dark without being able to hear the danger approaching. Suddenly, a figure emerged from behind a bush, and before you could realise what was happening, the cannibal attacked you, a terrifying scream emerging from his throat while he tried to hit you with a sharpened bone. You screamed trying to block his blows. Thoughts of how you'd die here and now filled your mind, mixed with the sad realisation that Kelvin would find your battered remains in a blood soaked puddle not far from your camp. Fortunately Kelvin cared as much about your safety than you about his, so he had been following you from a distance, his whole body tensed, hoping that no cannibal would sneak up behind him. At first, fear gripped him, and he wanted to run away, knowing that without his hearing he'd be useless in a fight, but something inside him pushed him to stand up and run towards you. You had grown unto him over the last weeks, trapped together on this cursed island. You took care of him, always making sure that nothing would harm him, that he had everything he needed and you'd always volunteer to take up on the more dangerous gathering rounds to keep him safe. He might have saved your life from the sinking helicopter, but he owed you just as much for keeping him alive after the crash. He had no weapons, but he knew he had to save your life. With nothing but his bare hands, he charged towards the cannibal. His heart was pounding so hard that he could feel it in his ears. The cannibal was strong, and Kelvin was struggling to overpower him. His precious companion's life was at stake, and Kelvin knew he had to act fast. With the adrenaline rushing through his veins, he punched the cannibal's face with all his might. Blow after blow, he kept hitting until finally, the lifeless body sank to the ground, mouth agape and eyes riped open while a trail of blood ran over the face. Kelvin couldn't believe what he had just done. He had just saved you, again, and he felt a sense of pride and relief. You were standing there in shock and couldn't believe what just happened. You both both hugged each other, and tears rolled down your cheeks. You knew you just went through yet another traumatic experience, and, more than ever, you needed each other's comfort. You headed back to camp and as the door felt shut behind you, the two of you sat down on the makeshift bed, hugging each other so tight as if you'd be afraid that hell would break loose if you'd let go again. You knew that the cannibal you had just killed was not the only lurking out there and that his fellow tribe member would probably find his corpse and try to invade your camp. Both of you took a deep and laid down on the bed. You turned around to face Kelvin and cuddled up to him, burying your face in the soft fabric of his hoodie, letting out a silent sob. His trembling hands caressed your back as he shut his eyes, wondering what would happen if you'd finally managed to escape this island and if you'd stay with him or leave him as you'd no longer need him to be safe. The unknown laid ahead of the two of you but, for now, you both knew that you were ready to face any danger that came your way of you'd just stick together.
