The first time Ojiro Mashirao met Shinsou Hitoshi was during the sports festival
Technically the first time they met was after the USJ but they didn't interact with each other. The first time they talked was during the second round of the sports festival
Mashirao was looking for someone to team up with him when he saw Aoyama standing to the side with a purple haired boy
He didn't recognize Shinsou as the one who had declared war against his class (he was on the back and barely saw Shinsou face, only heard his words) so he assumed he was from 1-B
Aoyama waved him over and, while his movements looked weirdly robotic, Mashirao approached
He was not that close to the other boy so Mashirao didn't know why he was calling him but he was curious
When he got close he noticed the weird blank look and emotionless expression on Aoyama face, the always present smile missing
"Would you like to join our team?" Shinsou asked from Aoyama side
"I-" Mashirao doesn't remember what exactly he was going to answer, just that suddenly he woke up by a shove with Aoyama and a short silver haired boy on his sides and a purple haired boy sitting on his shoulders
"Thank you for your help" the boy says mockingly before walking away
Mashirao would have followed him to ask for answers but that's when Aoyama and the other boy seem to wake up and Mashirao helps them get their bearings
In the break time before the tournament he ponders about what happened
Mashirao theorizes the purple boy had some kind of mind control quirk. He doesn't know for sure the activation requirements but considering he doesn't remember anything after answering the purple boy, he guesses that it had something to do with talking
He thinks about why he seemingly broke out of control sooner than the others and thinks that the shove he felt may have had something to do with it
Afterwards, when Midnight reveals the next event, Mashirao announces he wants to drop out
He doesn't remember what happened and likely wasn't in control of his body so it doesn't feel fair to him that he gets to continue when he didn't feel he earned it. The silver haired boy that was on his team also seemed to agree with him as he also said he intended to drop out
Midnight allowed it and after choosing who was going to replace them, she revealed the bracket
He scanned it but he was most focused on the purple haired boy, that's why he saw the boy start to move towards Midoriya
A quick glance towards the brackets showed that Midoriya was against someone named Shinsou Hitoshi and Mashirao was certain that the purple boy was this Shinsou Hitoshi
That's why he stopped Midoriya from answering him
He didn't know for sure that Shinsou was going to mind control Midoriya. It would be hard to control him for the entire time before their match and the teachers may declassify him for cheating. But Mashirao didn't know the specifics of the boy's quirk, he didn't know how much of a gap there could be between answering Shinsou and him taking control- if answering was even the trigger!
He wouldn't let his classmate lose his fight before it even begun
That's why afterwards he took Midoriya away and told him everything he theorized about Shinsou's quirk. Midoriya thanked him and Mashirao went to the stands with the rest of his class, cheering on for Midoriya to defeat Shinsou
You can't blame him for feeling a bit angry, Shinsou didn't even bother to know whether Mashirao would agree to join his team before taking control
Unfortunately, soon after the match started Shinsou said something that made Midoriya angry enough to answer. He was too far away to hear what it was but he could see Shouji frowning underneath his mask and Jiro flinching while sending him a quick glance
He saw Midoriya body suddenly go lax and start walking out of the arena
Mashirao sighed in disappointment, sure that his classmate was going to lose
But somehow Midoriya managed to break out of Shinsou control. Mashirao didn't know how, maybe there was some weakness to Shinsou quirk he wasn't aware of, but he quickly threw him out of the arena
Mashirao applauded Midoriya together with his classmates and the entire stadium but as the noise died down he heard several people murmuring about how useful of a quirk it was for a hero and how could the boy be in Gen.Ed
Mashirao couldn't disagree. The quirk was useful for a hero, especially for hostage situations
It was just a shame that the person with that quirk was so disrespectful and trigger-happy
The sound of a few explosions and cursing about a shitty Deku reminded him of another disrespectful trigger-happy person
The sports festival went on and Mashirao pushed Shinsou out of his mind, enjoying the rest of the day
He would likely never see the boy again unless they stumbled into one another in the corridors
Two days later, after the other two years sports festival, Class 1-A day started with curiosity when they noticed an extra chair and table
Their homeroom teacher announcement quelled his doubts
"You will be receiving a new classmate" Aizawa-Sensei said as soon as he entered the classroom "I expect all of you to treat him with respect like you would treat any other classmate. Just because he didn't pass a heavily biased entrance exam, doesn't mean he is weaker or less worthy than any of you"
As he spoke the last sentence his eyes swept through the class, lingering for a moment longer on a few students- Bakugou, Midoriya and, to his shock, Mashirao himself
What!?
Why?
He understood why Bakugou, the boy is disrespectful to everyone, and Aizawa-Sensei bias against Midoriya was clear from day one
But what did Mashirao do!?
"Shinsou, you can come in" Aizawa-Sensei said and, even though Mashirao tried not to, his face and tail fell as the purple haired boy entered through the door "I am sure you recognize him from the sports festival. After his showing, Shinsou's transfer to the hero course was approved. Shinsou introduce yourself"
"I'm not here to make friends, especially with privileged brats. Don't bother me and I won't bother you" This was Shinsou 'introduction' and Mashirao already low opinion of him got even lower
But maybe that wasn't fair. Shinsou got transferred to the hero course, this meant U.A saw some heroic potential in him and Aizawa-Sensei who was notoriously hard to impress also accepted him. He couldn't be all that bad
(But U.A also thought Mineta and Bakugou had heroic potential. Mineta who makes the girls uncomfortable with his comments and peeping, and Bakugou who insults and threatens anyone who breathes too loudly in his direction
But U.A knew better than Mashirao right?)
He couldn't see him ever becoming friends with Shinsou but in heroics you have to work with people you may not personally like, so Mashirao could be respectful even if he thought the other boy was dishonorable
After Shinsou sat on his new seat, Aizawa-Sensei turned on the classroom projector as a list with his classmates names and numbers at its sides was projected behind him
"Now let's talk about internships-"
Mashirao didn't get any internships but he is not too sad about it, only those who got to the tournament round received any offers and even them Aoyama, Ashido and Midoriya didn't get any
(Maybe if Mashirao hadn't withdrawn he would have got at least some offers but he doesn't regret his decisions. He saw some comments on the internet and the news that thought his decision was stupid but he didn't feel that he had earned his position when he did nothing but be controlled like a puppet)
Aizawa-Sensei explained that U.A partners which forty hero agencies to pick students that didn't get any offers, so those who got no offers would still participates on the Internships
Afterwards Midnight arrived for the hero informatics class where they would finally pick their hero name
Mashirao picked the name and epithet- The Martial Arts hero: Tailman
Admittedly not that creative and he will probably change it later but they didn't have much time and he had no better ideas
The class ended and everyone started to leave from lunch while also talking about who they were thinking of going with, Mashirao was looking at his list and going through what he knew of each hero there- which wasn't much outside of quirk and general area of expertise, and some of them he knew not even that as they were likely underground
While Mashirao loved heroes, he wanted to be one after all, he wasn't much of a hero fanboy and didn't purposefully look any information about heroes outside of which martial arts they used, for the few that used them
"Ojiro, please stay behind for a moment," Aizawa-Sensei said before Mashirao could leave the classroom. He stopped to see his teacher looking at him from behind his desk
Mashirao was worried, it's almost never good when a teacher want to speak with you alone
Shinsou passed by his side, out of the door, and shot Mashirao a quick satisfied look
This just made his worry even worse
"What did you want to talk about Aizawa-Sensei?" Mashirao asked once everyone had left the classroom and they were alone
"Ojiro after the internship week you will have detention with me on Monday" Aizawa-Sensei said sternly and Mashirao jaw dropped in shock
"Why?" He cried out "what did I do?"
"You sabotaged Shinsou in the sports festival" Aizawa-sensei explained
"When?" Mashirao asked, confused. If anything Shinsou sabotaged him by forcing him into his team and controlling him for an entire event. If they hadn't got enough points, Mashirao wouldn't have even had a chance to pass to the tournament
"By telling Midoriya about Shinso quirk" Aizawa-Sensei
"There were no rules against that. I was simply trying to help my classmate and Midoriya was caught and broke out of Shinsou quirk either way" Mashirao argued
"Even if Midoriya somehow broke out of Shinso quirk it doesn't matter, your intentions do. Would you have told Midoriya his opponent's quirk if it was anyone else?"
"I warned him because I knew what Shinsou quirk was and it wasn't an obvious physical quirk that he would have known. I just wanted him to have a fighting chance" Mashirao tried to explain but it was clear Aizawa-Sensei didn't buy it if anything he only looked angrier
"So you purposely sabotaged Shinsou match because of his quirk, this is quirk discrimination Ojiro and ground for expulsion" Aizawa-Sensei said angrily "Shinsou did tell me you stopped Midoriya from talking to him before the match"
"What! No, I just didn't want Midoriya to lose before the match even started" Mashirao tried to explain that while he did reveal Shinsou quirk, it was because it was a hidden one. If it was an obvious quirk like Uraraka or Yaoyorozu he wouldn't have told but that was because Midoriya could have easily noticed and would have more of a fighting chance
Admittedly, if Shinsou hadn't mind controlled him for an entire event and Mashirao still somehow knew about his quirk, he wouldn't have told Midoriya
But can you blame him for being a bit angry? He wasn't even thinking of telling Shinsou opponent about his quirk until he saw him trying to talk with Midoriya
And again, there was nothing against the rules saying you couldn't reveal someone else quirk
"So you think Shinsou would use his quirk every time he talks with someone? That he couldn't have just wanted to greet his opponent" Aizawa-Sensei said while glaring at him "I am not going to expel you because you still have potential but after internship you will be spending the entire following week in detention. Do you understand?"
Mashirao wanted to talk about how Shinsou so freely used his quirk on him before he could even answer, and why he had no reason to believe he wouldn't do the same with Midoriya but he knew it wouldn't matter
Aizawa-Sensei had already made his decision, so Mashirao just nodded
"Good, you can leave" Mashirao did as ordered and left the classroom dejectedly, he walked to the cafeteria with his head hung down, only to jump in shock when a voice spoke behind him
"I can't believe him!" Mashirao spun to the side with his tail ready, only to see a floating uniform and shoes stomping angrily at his side "He didn't even listen to you!"
"Hagakure?" He asked in shock about what she was doing here
"I stayed behind to wait for you and I couldn't help but snoop when I heard raised voices coming from inside" Hagakure said sheepishly only to turn angry again "and I can't believe Aizawa-Sensei! Claiming that you sabotaged Shinsou, if anyone sabotaged the festival it was him and Todoroki!"
"What do you mean?" He asked confused
"Well, Todoroki froze a bunch of people in the beginning and not everyone managed to escape in time so you could say he sabotaged them" She explained "And Shinsou forced you and Aoyama into his team during the cavalry battle, which meant you would not even have had a chance to pass to the tournament if he hadn't gotten enough points"
Mashirao had told Hagakure what happened, she was his best friend and also said she was going to call him for her team until she noticed he was with someone else
"I also re-watched the sports festival later and I couldn't help but notice Shinsou during the obstacle run" Hagakure continued while they walked to the cafeteria "Did you know he literally let others carry him during the run until they arrived at the fall?"
"Well, we could use our quirks and he was using his" Mashirao pointed out, he didn't like Shinsou but he wasn't going to say that using his quirk was inherently bad, that would be actual quirk discrimination
"You are right but after he arrived at the fall i don't think he didn't let them go, I saw that they turned back and sprinted back to the entrance while some were using their quirks to stop other people" Explained Hagakure "He then went to a support student that gave him their grappling hook before frowning the rest of their inventions down the pit and also sprinting the other way. If this doesn't count as sabotage, them what did definitely isn't"
"There's nothing I can do," Mashirao shrugged with sadness while they arrived at the cafeteria
He and Hagakure picked up their food with lunch rush before sitting in their normal place with Sato, Koda and Shouji. Koda and Shouji didn't talk much but neither did Mashirao, Sato and Hagakure led most of their conversations, today was no different
"So who are you guys going on internships with?" Sato asked "I am thinking of going with Deatharms"
"I'm going with the Bull hero:Taurus" Shouji said with one of his hand-mouths
"I-I haven't decided y-yet" Koda said quietly
"I didn't choose either," Admitted Mashirao
"Me neither" Hagakure said afterwards
They spent the lunch talking about internships and helping those who haven't decided yet. Koda was going with some rescue hero while Hakagure was going with an underground one
Mashirao would have liked to go with some hero known for their martial arts but none of the U.A partners used them
He eventually decided on Whiplash agency because his tentacle quirk could sort of work like his tail
They were walking back to their classroom, when Sato brought up the other major thing that happened today
"What did you think of Shinsou?" Asked Sato "He was really arrogant, just like Bakugou or Todoroki, and we don't need more of them"
"W-we shouldn't judge S-Shinshou just yet" Stuttered Koda "Maybe h-he just needs to o-open up a bit?"
"Koda is right, maybe we should give him a chance," Midoriya said, appearing out of nowhere and scaring them before sheepishly rubbing his neck "Sorry, I just couldn't help but hear you guys talking about Shinsou. I talked with him a bit during and after our match and I learned that some people didn't treat him well because of his quirk, we just have to show we are different!"
Maybe Midoriya and Koda were right, maybe Shinsou will open up to them eventually. Just because he was treated badly because of his quirk didn't make what he did to Mashirao and Aoyama right but at least it may give an explanation
"Okay, we shouldn't judge him too harshly because of a bad first" or in his case second "impression, it wouldn't be right"
They eventually arrived at the classroom and went their separate ways while waiting for the teacher to arrive
Later that day, they had Fundamental Heroic Class with All Might and after changing into their hero costumes, they met the hero in one of U.A many gyms
"Today we will be doing something more basic to de-stress from the sports festival and not exhaust all of you too much before internships" The hero said as soon as they entered in a booming voice "we will be practicing quirkless combat"
"Quirkless combat? Isn't this the hero course? We should be focusing on our quirks!" Complained Shinsou
"Quirkless combat is essential for a good hero" All Might started the speech he had given weeks ago when people complained on his first quirkless combat class "It can complement one quirk, be another tool in ahero arsenal or make sure you are not helpless if you fight against an opponent with a quirk that perfect counter yours or someone with a quirk like Aizawa-Sensei. This is especially important for you, Young Shinsou!"
"What's that supposed to mean" he asked with a glare
"If someone know about your quirk, it's less likely they will fall for it, you need something else to fall back on in these scenarios" Explained All Might but that just seemed to make Shinsou angrier
"So what you are saying is that my quirk is not good enough for a hero, is that what you are saying All Might" Shinsou spat out angrily
"That's not what I meant at all Young Shinsou" All Might answered reasonably "And watch your tone, I am your teacher young man!"
Shinsou decided to back down but it was obvious he wasn't happy
"Now, just like last time you will separate in groups based on how good you are at Quirkless combat. Those that have never trained or just begun go to my right, those with some experience to my left, and those that are more skilled in front of me" All Might said and Class 1-A started to divide in groups as ordered. Mashirao went to the more skilled group together with Yaoyorozu, Todoroki, Iida and Sato
All Might then told them to run some drills as he went between the groups giving pointers, spending most of his time with the first group as they had the least experience
This is what they did during the first half of the class but then All Might said they would hold a sort a sort of mini quirkless combat tournament
Mashirao group was the first and they had a free-for-all where all contestants fought one another at the same time, you were eliminated if you were pushed out of the arena or pinned to the ground for five seconds
Mashirao managed to push Iida out of bounds- the class president seemed to not be completely there but considering what he heard happened to Ingenium this was understandable -but he was then pushed out of bounds by Todoroki
In the end Sato was the winner of their group
The next group was made of those with medium experience- Hagakure, Midoriya, Bakugou and Shouji- and it was a bracket style tournament
Bakugou and Midoriya fought and the former won and in Shouji and Hagakure fight, Shouji won
Shouji was holding his two extra sets of arms behind his back, using only the middle ones, while Hagakure was wearing gloves. This was the closest they could get to a quirkless fight
Bakugou and Shouji fought in the finals and Shouji won. Bakugou grumbled and huffed but he didn't complain
The last group had the 12 remaining members of class 1-A and it was also a bracket fight
The first three fights- Ashido vs Jiro, Ashido won; Kaminari vs Sero, Sero won; Kirishima vs Aoyama, Kirishima won - went without a hitch
But then it was time for Shinsou vs Tsu
"It's not fair" He complained as soon as his fight was announced "she will be using her quirk and I can't use mine!"
"Young Asui will not use her tongue and will refrain from jumping too high" All Might explained but it was obvious Shinsou was not satisfied. Mashirao thought he was being stupid, with Tsuyu having to hold back and fighting against her natural instincts, Shinsou would be at an advantage. It took Mashirao a while before he stopped using his tail without having to be aware of it at all times
The two started fighting and it was clear Shinsou was in the back foot, after narrowing dodging a quick from Tsuyu, he seemed to snap
"Is this all you can do, Frog?" He taunted with a sneer "This is my first class and you haven't defeated me yet, do you really think you can be a hero?"
"I-" Tsuyu answered only to freeze in place, Shinsou then ordered her to walk out of bounds
"I win. It seems your beloved quirk isn't that good" He taunted after she snapped out of his control
"No you didn't win Young Shinsou" All Might said sternly "I told you this was a Quirkless Combat class"
"She was using her quirk, I was just evening the odds" he tried to explain himself
"She was holding back on her quirk just like I said" All Might countered "Young Shinsou I will have to declassify you"
"Whatever" Shinsou said with a scoff "this class is useless anyway"
He then stormed out of bounds and started to sulk in a corner
Ashido ended up winning the quirkless close combat tournament and All Might praised all of them before leaving in a flash
They were now walking back to the changing room when Mashirao heard a few whispers behind
"Go talk to him c'mon" He heard Sero whispering
"Alright, alright" He heard Kaminari say before he marched towards Shinsou with a friendly smile and a wave "hey Shinsou, me and some of the other boys are going to the arcade after school, do you want to come?"
"Different from heroes brat like you who can just coast through life, I worked hard to get where I am and I don't have time to waste with idiots" Shinsou sneered at Kaminari and the blonde flinched back at the venom in Shinsou words before frowning
"Ha!" Mashirao looked to see Bakugou sneering back at Shinsou "you? Working hard? You look like a stick! No wonder your weak ass couldn't pass the entrance exam"
Mashirao hated to agree with Bakugou but he was not wrong that Shinsou looked as if he hadn't worked out a day in his life
"The entrance exam was biased towards people with flashy quirks" he wasn't wrong but Hakagure, Koda, Mineta and Sero don't have quirks that would help destroying robots and they still passed "it's the only reason why a rabid dog like you managed to pass"
"You called me what?" Bakugou exploded while stomping forward, everyone else except Kirishima and Todoroki stepped back
"A rabid dog, didn't you have to be leashed at the end of the sports festival? Was earning first place not enough for your ego?" Shinsou taunted
"You-" Bakugou froze in place as Shinsou quirk took control
"Sit down like a good dog" Bakugou did as ordered and sat on the ground, it was weird to see the normally always frowning or snarling boy with a blank expression
"That was not cool Shinsou" Kirishima said with a frown while stepping closer to Bakugou
"What? He was going to attack me! But of course since he has an heroic quirk and not a villainous one it isn't as bad as when I do it, isn't it?" Shinsou scoffed
"I was talking about the insults but Bakubro wouldn't have hurt you!" Mashirao thought Kirishima was looking at Bakugou with rose-tinted glasses, he was definitely going to attack Shinsou
Kirishima shook Bakugou shoulder and the latter woke up, he looked around confused for a bit before his eyes fell on Shinsou and his face assumed the most enraged expression Mashirao has ever seen
"YOU FUCKER!" Bakugou exploded forward towards Shinsou, the blowback charring the ground and pushing the people near him back, especially Kirishima
Shinsou stepped back in genuine fear as Bakugou got in front of him in a second with his hand extended for an explosion
Only for it to fizzle out as a scarf wrapped around and dragged him back towards Aizawa-Sensei
"What do you think you are doing Bakugou?" Aizawa-Sensei said while glaring at him with red eyes
"He tried to attack me Sensei" Shinsou spoke out looking a bit shaken
"Wait, Shinsou used his quirk on Bakubro first" Kirishima tried to defend his friend
"Only because he had already threatened to attack me. And I had everything under control until Kirishima shook him out of my quirk" Shinsou defended himself
"Is that so" Aizawa-Sensei said while letting Bakugou go "Bakugou, detention with me on Monday the week after internship. Same with you Kirishima as you knew Bakugou tried to attack Shinsou and broke him out of his control anyway"
Bakugou looked at their Sensei shocked and everyone else did the same
Aizawa-Sensei was punishing Bakugou?
He never did that, he always let the boy use his quirk freely and insult others and did nothing. Sure Bakugou had never attacked someone else outside of training but he certainly looked like he would
It seemed that Bakugou had lost his favorite privileges to Shinsou
And Mashirao was peeved that Bakugou detention was just for one day while himself had an entire week
"What are you waiting for? Go change your clothes and no more fights!" Aizawa-Sensei said before leaving
The group slowly started the walk back to the bestiary with a shocked Katsuki and Kirishima on the back and a smug Shinsou in the front
Internship week was great. Mashirao learned a lot about hero work during his time at Whiplash agency
He was worried when Hosu happened and when he learned that Midoriya, Iida and Todoroki got caught in the chaos. He was also worried that the hero killer was working with the league but luckily Endeavor caught him
Even with this he still enjoyed his internship week. But Monday came and his mood plummeted when he realized what would come later today
Detention
His parents were not happy when he told them he would have detention for an entire weekend. He tried to explain his side and how the teacher was playing favorites but they didn't believe him and he got grounded
Anyway, he would not let what would happen later today spil his good mood so he focused on Hagakure a she told him about her internship
"Who did you intern with Shinsou?" Mashirao heard Midoriya saying and he looked to see the green haired boy standing over Shinsou desk, where the boy rested with his head on his arms
"I was working with Eraserhead to catch up" Shinsou grumbled "now leave me alone, I want to sleep"
"O-of course" Midoriya stuttered before returning to his seat
A few moments later, Aizawa-Sensei arrived and nodded when he saw they were all sat
"Good, you are learning" was all he said
"Leave me alone!" Mashirao heard behind him to see Shinsou snapping at Yaoyorozu at his side before sleeping again
Mashirao assumed that she had attempted to wake him up
"Yaoyorozu leave Shinsou alone" Aizawa-Sensei said "I already told him what I will say now during his internship with me"
At this point his favoritism couldn't be more obvious, Aizawa-Sensei would have never let someone else sleep during homeroom, even if they knew what would be said
Aizawa-Sensei talked about the upcoming midterms before going to sleep
The rest of the day was normal until after lunch where All Might took them to a gym full of pipes and told them they would be doing a rescue race while emphasizing that they would be expected to minimize property damage
The first group was composed by Iida, Sero, Uraraka, Tsu and Midoriya. Some of the students with the most mobility and Midoriya, who Mashirao felt pity for, as he didn't understand why Midoriya was placed on this group
It quickly became clear why, when Midoriya shrouded himself in green lightning and zipped through the pipes, arriving in first place
When the group returned to the control room, everyone crowded around Midoriya asking about how he did that
He explained that his internship mentor helped him learn that he should be spreading the power across his body and lowering the percentage instead of focusing it all in one place
"Of course you needed someone to point out something so obvious to you" Shinsou sneered from his place in the back, his costume looked a bit different from the time Mashirao last saw it, the most notable being the purple scarf Shinsou was wearing
Midoriya face fell and Mashirao felt angry. He was not that close to Midoriya but who was Shinsou to dismiss his class classmate accomplishments
"What's your problem!?" Uraraka spoke out in indignation "Deku did nothing to you"
"My problem is that you are all praising him for something that he should already have under control if he wasn't so lazy" Shinsou spat out "he would have learned this sooner if he had bothered to train his quirk a day on his life"
"Because training a quirk that break your bones is really easy when you don't have someone like Recovery Girl on call" Jiro said sarcastically "besides, because of quirk laws I doubt you trained your quirk often yourself"
"No one wanted to be brainwashed by the villain kid" Shinsou sneered "I have an excuse, he was just being lazy"
"Was the law not enough motive for you" Tsu pointed out bluntly "or the fact that his quirk could be highly destructive in an uncontrolled environment"
"That didn't seem to stop them" he pointed out behind Tsu where a screen showed Bakugou and Todoroki in the rescue race
Todoroki was rich and his father is Endeavor, so he likely had access to resources and space to train his quirk. And he didn't know about Bakugou life so it's completely possible he was also rich
"Please let it go" Midoriya pleaded to them "Shinsou is right, I should have gotten my quirk under control sooner"
"See, even the golden boy agree with me" Shinsou said out haughtily
They dropped the assunt at Midoriya insistence but Mashirao saw Uraraka and Ioda talking with him on a corner, probably trying to make him more indignated for himself
Eventually the final group went to do the race, it had 6 people because of the odd numbers of students, consisting of Hagakure, Aoyama, Mineta, Kirishima, Kaminari and Shinsou
The six students with the lowest mobility or information gathering abilities. It would probably not be the most exciting of races
The race started with shock rippling trough the class when Shinsou scarf unraveled in a familiar way and wrapped around a pipe above him
Mashirao knew Shinsou did his internship with Aizawa-Sensei but he thought it was only to catch up in class, not that he would teach Shinsou how to use his weapon
Shinsou lifted himself in the air and used the other strand to wrap around another pipe a few meters in front of him and them swung towards it
He kept using the capture scarf to swung from pipe
It would be impressive if he wasn't so slow
Shinsou was barely ahead from the people on the ground and it honestly may have been less effort if he had just ran like the others
He seemingly realized the same because he dropped to the ground, turned to the people behind him and shouted something that got them to respond
They all stopped in their tracks
In the control room, everyone around Mahsirao screamed in indignation wondering if that was even allowed
Even if there was no rule against using your quirk on others, it certainly wasn't in the spirit of the exercise
Shinsou then casually strolled through the fake city until he found All Might and that was when he let them go
They saw through the screens All Might reprimanding Shinsou, the two argued until Hagakure arrived
Once everyone had found him, they returned back to the control room. It was clear to see that no one but Shinsou was happy
"I didn't give any rule against using your quirk on others so Shinsou won fair and square" All Might answered the questioning look they all gave him "but next time keep in mind the spirit of the exercise. This was supposed to test how quickly you could find and arrive at someone in a rescue scenario, the last thing you would want to do is too sabotage your fellow heroes"
Shinsou didn't seem to care about All Might reprimand, only looking smug, and Mashirao opinion of him fell even lower
Detention ended up being not as bad as Mashirao feared. Aizawa-Sensei made them write an essay about why quirk discrimination was bad and then went to sleep
Mashirao expected worse but even Bakugou didn't cause trouble, probably because he knew that Aizawa-Sensei wouldn't look away anymore
Tuesday was the same,except with a documentary and he was alone
Eventually it was Wednesday, and another hero class had begun
This time it was a repeat from the exercise they'd done in their first class. The indoor battle trials
The difference was that this time there were 21 students and as such one team would have three people on it
The other was that Aizawa-Sensei was present. When asked why, he said it was too make sure that no student was unfairly targeted while staring at All Might
Mashirao is sure that All Might reprimand to Shinsou last class had something to do with his presence
Mashirao was partnered with Ashido this time. He was okay with it, she could be a but unfocused but was willing to work together and had a powerful quirk
"The first teams will be Young Mashirao and Ashido as heroes versus Young Shouji and Shinsou as villains" Mashirao stomach dropped as he looked to see Shinsou scowling at All Might
"Was this really randomized?" He asked suspiciously
"Yes Young Shinsou, this was completely random" assured All Might but Shinsou still scowled at him
"He is right Shinsou, this was truly just a coincidence" Aizawa-Sensei spoke and this seemed to make Shinsou back off
"Both teams can go now, you will have ten minutes to plan and make any preparations" All Might said
Mashirao cursed his rotten luck but at the same time maybe it was not too bad. He was already expecting Shinsou quirk so he would be less likely to fall into it
At least it wasn't against Todoroki again, Mashirao was not excited to be humiliated a second time, this way he would have more of a fighting chance
He and Ashido studied the blueprint of the building and theorized the bomb would likely be on the middle of the third floor, as there was a room with no windows there
This was all they could plan as Shouji was likely listening to them currently and any plan would be countered
As soon as the buzzer sounded, Ashido jumped on his back and Mashirao used his tail to propel himself up the second floor
They decided to stick together this way, they would be able to free each other if they fell on Shinsou quirk
They had just just got up the stair to the third floor when they stumbled into Shinsou
"The monkey and The alien" Shinsou taunted with a sneer "how nice to see both of you, I'm sure you are so happy to get a chance of attacking me, aren't you Monkey?"
Mashirao wanted to answer but he kept quiet, this only seemed to make Shinsou angrier
"Shut up, I know what I am doing you freaky octopus" Shinsou suddenly spat out, probably speaking with Shouji through an earpiece
"Don't call Shouji that!" Mashirao demanded. He had never experienced Mutant Discrimination before, he looked baseline human enough that no one discriminated him for it, plus Mutant Discrimination is not as widely present as it was in the dawn of quirks
But, while Shouji never explicitly stated it, Mashirao suspected his friend was a victim of discrimination. The documentary he saw on Tuesday said that while less present in the cities, Mutant discrimination is still common in small villages. And Shouji did tell them he never went to a big city before U.A
Maybe Mashirao is looking in too deep but he won't let Shinsou insult his friend
"Oh, is the useless Monkey wanting to protect the Freaky Octopus?" Shinsou taunted "What will someone with a weak quirk like you even do, did you forget you're practically quirkless!?"
Mashirao knows that compared to others in his class he is bland and unassuming with a generic quirk, he knew this even before he first stepped into U.A.
In the world of heroics, full of bright stars, Mashirao is easily outshined. He knew this and he was okay with it
That didn't mean it didn't hurt
"You-" he realized his mistake as soon as he opened his mouth, but at that point it was too late and he felt Shinsou quirk take him
Except something was different, instead of the nothingness that came last time, Mashirao was still aware of his surroundings. But he could not move a muscle and a while he could still think, a fog in his mind made it hard to and threatened to swallow him into oblivion
This was different from last time, what changed?
"Ojiro!" Ashido shouted from his side, and Mashirao could see her reaching over from the corner of his eye, but a purple scarf wrapped around her hand and pulled her away from him towards Shinsou where he threw her behind him
"You are alone now Alien" he taunted "not that the Monkey was much of a help anyway"
Ashido didn't respond to his taunts, just releasing a stream of acid he barely dodged
"Is that all you can do, your powerful quirk isn't that useful now is it" he kept taunting "you should go back to whatever freaky planet you came from, it's clear you are not cut out to be a hero, you didn't even receive any offers!"
The last one caused Ashido to flinch but she still didn't answer. Only trying to dodge past Shinsou to get to Mashirao, he kicked her and sent way but Ashido released acid from her arms that burned through Shinso costume and got into his leg
Shinsou jumped back
"Fuck, how can someone with a dangerous quirk like you be considered heroic" Shinsou spat out "Do you like hurting other people, is that why you want to be a hero? What am I saying, you are friends with Bomberman, of course you are a psychopath like him"
"Shut up-" Ashido shouted back and immediately fell under his control
"What an idiot" Shinsou said derisively before quickly wrapping capture tape around both of them
"The heroes are captured, the villains win" All Might voice boomed out and Shinsou left with a smirk on his face
Leaving Mashirao and Ashido behind still caught on his quirk, until Shouji came down and freed them himself
"What's that guy problem" Ashido grumbled as they walked back to the control room, they entered the room to see that Shinsou was already there
"Finally you are here, now can anyone tell me why Shinsou was the MVP?" Aizawa-Sensei asked the class as soon as he noticed their arrival
"Excuse me!' Ashido asked outrageously "Are you not going to say anything to him!"
She pointed at Shinsou
"Say what?" Aizawa-Sensei asked irritably "Shinsou did nothing wrong"
"He was extremely insulting towards me, Ojiro and even Shouji and Bakugou" Ashido snapped out "And I know you heard what he was saying"
"His words were also extremely discriminatory against mutant quirks" Shouji also pointed out
"They are right Aizawa" All Might came to their defense "Shinsou was really offensive and quirkist against them"
"I only said what I had to do to make them answer" Shinsou defended himself before sneering at the three of them "and if they can't handle a few insults then they shouldn't be heroes"
"There are other ways to make people answer that don't involve insulting them" All Might pointed out "And even if your insults were only to make them answer, you still haven't apologized"
"Why should he apologize? Shinsou was right, if they can't handle insults they are not cut out to be heroes" Aizawa-Sensei defended Shinsou "Different from your clean limelight heroics. Underground heroics are a lot more dangerous and need you to play dirty or die"
"I know about Underground Heroics Aizawa. I did work with underground heroes before. And there's a difference between playing dirty with real villains when lives are on the lines and playing dirty with you classmates"
"Wasn't it you that said we should treat every scenario as if it was real?" Shinsou pointed out "I was only doing what you said besides Bakagou insults others all the time and no one does anything"
"What did you call me Eyebags!" Bakugou exploded
"Stand down Bakugou" Aizawa-Sensei warned with a quirked stare towards the boy
"Even if it was only for us to answer, it still doesn't justify your insult towards Shouji" Ashido snapped out "he was on your team!"
"I was angry because he refused to work with me and didn't follow my plan" Shinsou answered
"You are the one who refused to plan with me and left as soon as the exercise started" Shouji pointed out
"Because you wanted me to play defense so you could keep all the glory!" Shinsou exclaimed
"Because my quirk is more useful to locating people and your quirk and scarf are best for ambushes" Shouji said
"Next time, keep in mind your classmate wishes Shouji, I told you he is not inferior just because he came later" Aizawa-Sensei reprimanded "you should have listened to Shinsou's plan, he was the one who won the exercise anyway while you did nothing. Now let's move on to the next team"
The conversation was dropped as they all realized it would be pointless to argue against Aizawa-Sensei but no one was happy
Except Shinsou, he looked really satisfied and uncaring of the occasional glare sent his way
He noticed Mashirao staring and smirked at him before mouthing out the words 'monkey'
Mashirao thinks he may be beginning to hate Shinsou
It was Thursday and Mashirao's penultimate day of detention. It was not as bad as he expected, only having to write essays or watch documentaries
Aizawa-Sensei seemed to be more interested in using this as an excuse to sleep
But Mashirao was still happy they were almost over
It was now lunch and he Hagakure, Shouji, Koda and Sato were walking towards their usual table
Except someone was already sitting there
Said someone was Shinsou
"Hi Shinsou…" Hagakure greeted cautiously. After Shinsou brainwashed Yaoyorozu yesterday when she tried to speak with him, everyone was cautious "what are you doing here?"
"Eating, is that a problem?" He snapped out
"Of course not! It's just this is normally the table we sit and you don't normally like spending time with us" she said diplomatically
"Of course not, why would I like spending time with self-absorbed hero students" He insulted them and Mashirao already fragile patience for Shinsou snapped
"Then what are you doing at our table?" He asked irritably
"Your table, this is a public space last I recall"
"You are right, you can sit here if you want" Shouji said, putting an end to their argument and going to sit on the other side of the table
Mashirao and the rest followed suit while keeping as much space as possible between them and Shinsou, this only seemed to make him angrier
"How can you say you are not quirkist when you keep avoiding me like I have the plague" Shinsou growled at them "You are afraid of me because of my big scary quirk aren't you? I didn't know the hero course was full of cowards!"
"No, Shinsou. We avoid you because you are a terrible person and this has nothing to do with your quirk" Mashirao pointed out
"I know that you hated me from day one" accused Shinsou "that's why I want to become a hero, to prove all of you jerks who called me a villain wrong"
"No one here called you a villain Shinsou" pointed out Sato "you are the only one who says it"
"None of you said it out loud but all of you thought it, I know it, actions speak louder than words" Shinsou exclaimed "you are a bunch of judgemental pricks, thinking you are better than others because of your quirks"
"Shut up Shinsou" Sato screamed while standing up and slamming his hands on the table "You are the judgemental, self-absorbed jerk that likes playing the victim"
"So you do admit you think of me as a villain" Shinsou said smugly
"That's not what I-" Sato suddenly froze
"Let him go Shinsou!" Hagakure spoke out "it's not cool to use your quirk on others"
"Sure, let me free Mr Brawn over brains" Shinsou agreed, which only made Mashirao more suspicious "punch yourself in the face"
They couldn't react quickly enough and Sato fist hit his face with a crunch as he fell back and tripped over the bench, smacking the back of his head on the floor
"Sato!" They all exclaimed in shock while around them the cafeteria fell silent
"What's happening here?" Aizawa-Sensei appeared with his quirk activated. Mashirao felt a spark of hope, Aizawa-Sensei saw what happened, surely he will punish Shinsou even if the boy is his favorite, he hurt another student! But said hope quickly withered out at his next words "what did you five do to Shinsou?"
"Sato accused me of being a villain and threatened me," Shinsou said, "I just defended myself!"
"Is it? Sato detention today with me" Aizawa-Sensei said, uncaring that Sato was still on the floor with his nose bleeding
"What, but Shinsou was the one to assault Sato" Hakagure complained "why isn't he being punished and Sato never accused Shinsou of being a villain"
"Did Shinsou even touched Sato?" when Hakagure shaked her head he continued "then it isn't assault"
"But Shinsou used his quirk on him!"
"To defend himself, do you want detention too Hagakure? If not you should keep quiet" Aizawa threatened and Hagakure backed out "now all of you leave Shinsou alone"
He then left while Shinsou returned at eating, uncaring of the whispers around him
Shouji and Koda picked up Sato to bring him to Recovery Girls office and Mashirao and Hagakure followed
Mashirao entered in his classroom with Sato, ready for the last of detention
Except that instead of seeing Aizawa standing or sleeping behind his desk, there was a message written in the blackboard
'go to gym A'
Sato looked at him inquisitively and Mashirao shrugged in answer, he didn't know what was happening either
They went to where they were instructed to and found Aizawa standing there with Shinsou at his side
Mashirao scowled while Sato looked a bit scared and Shinsou looked smug
(He looked that way a lot, Mashirao knows this is not honorable but he wants to punch it out of his face)
"Your punishment will be to help me with Shinsou's training" Aizawa explained
"Wait, you are still training Shinsou!? I thought this was only for internship" Sato spoke out shocked
Mashirao was the same. He couldn't see Aizawa taking more responsibility, he didn't even look like he wanted to be a teacher
"Shinsou has the potential to be a great underground hero" Aizawa explained while Shinsou puffed up at his side
"Besides, I need these classes when All Might classes are useless if you want to go underground" Shinsou spoke
"Shinsou is not the only one in your class who wants to go underground, Hagakure and Tokoyami want it too" Mashirao told Aizawa while ignoring Shinsou, which only seemed to make him angrier
"Nothing and Birdbrain? Do you really think those two have what it takes to be an underground hero? They should stick to smiling to the cameras like good attention seeking limelight heroes"
"Shinsou is right, underground heroics are a lot more dangerous than limelight. Tokoyami has little control over Dark Shadow actions and Hagakure is too loud and clearly loves attention, she has no ability in stealth" Aizawa agreed with Shinsou
Mashirao wanted to argue back. Hagakure is loud because that's the only way people will notice her and she wants attention because she is too used to being ignored. And if she has no skill in stealth and Tokoyami has no control over Dark Shadow (which is a sentient quirk, how much control does Aizawa expect him to have over another being with free will), then that's why they are at school
To learn
But considering how he called out Midoriya in the first day for having no control over this quirk, it's clear Aizawa doesn't understand this
So Mashirao just kept quiet
"How are we supposed to help in Shinsou training" Sato asked out in hopes of stopping things from progressing further
"You are going to let Shinsou brainwash both of you and then we will run a series of tests to see his limits and how he can improve when Brainwashing two people at once" explained Aizawa
Sato and Mashirao looked at one another, neither of them were overjoyed at being brainwashed by Shinsou again but both knew that arguing would only make things worse
He knew this had been mistake when a few hours later, after he had already left school and went back home, he was scrolling through YouTube and a video was recommended to him
A video with him and Sato on the thumbnail
He clicked on it to see that the video was taken inside of one U.A gyms and it showed him acting like a monkey while Sato danced around
Mashirao face turned red in embarrassment
There was only one person that could have filmed it
The next day he went to school early just so that he could confront Aizawa-Sensei
"Hello Ojiro-kun, what are you doing here so early?" Cementoss-Sensei greeted him when he knocked on the door to the teachers office
"I need to speak with Aizawa-Sensei" Mashirao explained
"He is sleeping now but I can wake him up, follow me" Mashirao followed Cementoss-Sensei inside the teachers office towards a sofa in the back wall where Aizawa-Sensei slept inside his yellow sleeping bag. Cementoss-Sensei stopped in front of the bag and shook it "Aizawa wake up, one of your students needs to speak with you"
Aizawa-Sensei grumbled and opened a single eye, glaring at Cementoss-Sensei before it fell on Mashirao and he glared even harder but got up
"What do you want that's sooo important that you had to interrupt my sleep?" He grumbled irritably while Cementoss-Sensei walked away but not before sending Aizawa-Sensei an warning look
"Shinsou posted this on the internet" Mashirao said while showing Aizawa-Sensei the video
"And?" He said with a raised eyebrow
Mashirao flushed
"It's embarrassing!" He complained "I already tried to contact YouTube to get it off but you need to tell Shinsou to delete it and punish him!"
Mashirao would have asked Shinsou himself if he thought the boy would listen to him
"Why should I? I don't want to get involved with your brats petty issues" Aizawa-Sensei dismissed "besides, if you want to become an spotlight hero you should get used to people taking embarrassing videos or pictures"
Mashirao flushed even harder but this time from anger rather than shame
"You were there when Shinsou recorded the video and you let him!" Mashirao argued "and just because I want to be a spotlight hero doesn't mean I need to accept this!"
"It is illegal to record someone without their consent" Cementoss-Sensei piped in "and it's also against school rules to film Inside U.A property without Nedzu authorization"
Aizawa-Sensei sighed and glared
"Fine, I will talk with Shinsou" he grumbled "now go away so I can sleep"
Mashirao thanked Cementoss-Sensei and left. Half an hour later, when Shinsou arrived together with Aizawa-Sensei he sent him a glare before going to his seat
He later checked the video to see if it was deleted and was happy to see the original one was gone, unfortunately people had already re-uploaded it
During lunch he noticed several people looking towards him and Sato and giggling
Their friends helped hide them and offered their sympathy but there was nothing much that could be done. Mashirao could just wait for it to run its course and for the internet to jump into the next shiny new thing
He should have known Shinsou and Aizawa-Sensei wouldn't have let him get away unscathed, especially when he still had one more day of detention that he spent once again being Shinsou test dummy, this time to train Shinsou ability to hold onto someone even after they receive an impact
Shinsou wa still punished but all he had to do was write and essay about privacy laws and give an apology that anyone with a brain could see was fake
Things continued like this, with Shinsou insulting them and refusing to work with others while Aizawa-Sensei favored him
Hero classes were especially harder, because whether Shinsou was against you or on your team, you would still have a bad time
If he was against you, then you should prepare yourself for a lot of insults - mostly centered around your quirk
If he was on your team then prepare to have one less member since Shinsou refused to work with them. And pray for Shinsou to not get eliminated while he is off doing his own thing or Aizawa-Sensei would blame you
Unfortunately to whoever ended up in Shinsou team, him being eliminated became more and more common as time went on
He was a one trick pony and there's only so many times someone can insult you, before you start to ignore their words. Even Bakugou has stopped responding Shinsou and just beat him up silently
The fact that they refused to react to his insults only seemed to make him angrier, and Shinsou refused to change strategies
This was fortunate to whoever was against him, but unfortunate to whoever was in his team, because Shinsou could be a real threat with his voice mimicry if he caught you by surprise
Shinsou still had the capture weapon of course, and it was almost impossible to break out of it without the right quirk if he wrapped you
But from what Mashirao saw, the capture weapon needs upper body strength to be used to its full potential and Shinsou sorely lacked it
He was not as thin as when he first joined the class and had gained some muscles but it was obvious he wasn't working out outside of class and his sessions with Aizawa-Sensei
He may not even be training with the capture weapon outside of said sessions but Mashirao can't say for sure as he doesn't know how quickly someone is expected to progress with it
Things went like this until eventually the end of term exam was upon them
The written exams came and went and Mashirao was happy with his 08° place ranking
He looked behind him to see Kaminari and Ashido lamenting about their low score, 21 and 20 respectively, their grades were still enough to pass but they were the lowest ranking of the class
"Idiots, what are the two of you even doing in the hero course if you can barely read" Shinsou insulted them
Mashirao saw Jiro look Shinsou with a raised eyebrow
"Didn't you rank 20°?" She reminded him
"Only because I'm still not used to the pace of the hero course, the curriculum is a lot faster here" He complained "I have an excuse different from those idiots"
"The curriculum is quicker because we have to divide general classes with hero classes" Jiro explained "besides, at this point you have been in the hero course for longer than in Gen.Ed"
"Shut up Weird Ears, no one asked you anything!" He snapped at her
At this moment Aizawa-Sensei walked in and everyone quickly moved to their places
"Jiro, stop antagonizing Shinsou" he warned and she huffed irritated but didn't complain, at this point they all knew it was not worth it "now for the rest of you, don't think that just because you passed the Written exams that you are out of the woods. The physical exam will be next, put your costumes and met me outside in ten minutes or you will be immediately disqualified"
They didn't need any more incentive to quickly get up and rush towards the changing rooms
They met Aizawa-Sensei in front of the school together with the other teachers
Everyone was confused about the other teachers presence but Mashirao had a suspicion about what could be happening
His fears were confirmed when, after everyone arrived, principal Nedzu popped out of Aizawa-Sensei scarf and explained they would be fighting the teachers in teams of two, except for one team that would have three
He said the teachers would have an handicap in form of hyper-dense bracelets and they could win by running through the exit gate but Mashirao wasn't that comforted by that
His worries only got worse when Nedzu started announcing the pairings
"Ojiro Mashirao and Shinsou Hitoshi against Ectoplasm" he said cheerily
Mashirao looked with dread towards Shinsou while the boy glared at him
He saw others giving him looks of pity
This was going to suck
He was right, this did suck
Shinsou refused to talk with him on the bus, his only comment being 'aren't you afraid that I will brainwash you if you speak to me, Monkey?'
And as soon as they arrived in the exam site- a large multi-floor building full of tight, confusing hallways that made it look like a maze -Shinsou went off on his own
Mashirao tried to follow him but he quickly lost sight of Shinsou in the seemingly endless hallways and was attacked by a group of Ectoplasm clones that were patrolling the entire building
The time ticked down and Mashirao eventually arrived at a ledge that looked down right at the exit gate
Unfortunately, Ectoplasm was standing in front of the gate with four other clones and while Mashirao could deal with them, nothing was stopping the hero from creating more and he would quickly get overwhelmed
Mashirao heard footsteps behind him and looked back to see Shinsou approaching, likely having not noticed Mashirao from his place hidden underneath the ledge
He immediately grabbed the boy hand and pulled him down before Ectoplasm noticed him
"Wha-" Mashirao shushed him before quickly getting up and pointing towards Ectoplasm and the exit gate
"If we want to have any chance of getting through him, then we need to work together!" Mashirao said quietly but firmly "Are you willing to work with me now or do you want both of us to fail!"
"Aren't you afraid of working with villainous old me?" Shinsou taunted
"For the last time I don't-" Mashirao started to argue only for him to cut himself out as he felt Shinsou quirk take hold of him
"You are right that I will need your help if I want to pass and I have the perfect plan" he said with a smirk "Stand on top of the ledge and after one minute, jump"
Mashirao was powerless to do anything as he watched his body stand on top of the ledge while Shinsou ran away
Ectoplasm noticed his presence and did some generic villain monologue while three of his clones rushed towards Mashirao
They stopped when they got closer, probably noticing Mashirao blank expression
And that's when the one minute ended and Mashirao felt his body jump without his consent
He tried to fight it but he was unable to and he fell
The Ectoplasm clones rushed forward but they were too far and Mashirao legs hit the the ground with a crack
The pain broke him out of the quirk just to let him give out a scream of pain as he collapsed on the floor in agony
Unable to move his legs because the slightest twitch was agony
Once he was healed he would gain a new found respect for Midoriya and his ability to frequent ignore his broken bones
But for now he was in too much pain to care for much of anything
All Ectoplasms, including the real one, rushed towards him. Forgetting all about the exam since one of his students had just been severely injured
During his distraction, he didn't notice Shinsou sneak away behind him until the pre-recorded message played through the loudspeakers
"Shinsou Hitoshi and Ojiro Mashirao passed the exam"
Mashirao came to school next day furious
It's rare for him to get angry but he had enough of Shinsou!
Making him jump off a ledge and break his legs was too much!
Aizawa-Sensei will have to punish Shinsou won't he? And if he doesn't, another teacher will, right?
He holds on that hope until Aizawa-Sensei walks in
"Kaminari, Kirishima, Sato, Ashido, Sero and Ojiro. You failed the exam but you still be able to go to the training camp as the five of you clearly need extra work" While the other celebrated that they could still go to camp, Mashirao focused on something else
"What, why did I fail while Shinsou didn't?" He asked out outraged
"Shinsou passed through the gate while you didn't even help him" he said lazily
Mashirao didn't know he could get this angry
"I tried to work with him and he broke my legs!" He snapped out
"It's not my fault you stupidly decided to jump of a ledge in order to look cool or something" Shinsou answered
"NOT YOUR FAULT!" Mashirao roared out "YOU BRAINWASHED ME INTO JUMPING OFF THE FUCKING LEDGE!"
Mashirao never swore but he thought this was an appropriate time
"Language" Aizawa-Sensei said drawing Mashirao fury towards him "and don't accuse Shinsou of things like this, do you even have any evidence?"
"Eviden- WHY WOULD I WILLING JUMP OF A LEDGE" He pointed out outraged
"To look cool like Shinsou proposed or even to frame Shinsou" Aizawa-Sensei said irritatedly "I thought you had learned your lesson about quirk discrimination after your detention but I see now I was wrong. If you keep bullying Shinsou, I will expel you"
"And Recovery Girl healed your legs didn't she? What are you complaining about? If that light injury had such an impact maybe you should rethink being a hero" Shinsou taunted
Mashirao felt something inside him snap
"YOU ARE THE MOST ENTITLED, SELFISH, NARCISSISTIC ASSHOLE I EVER MET!" He shouted out at Shinsou with so much fury that the boy flinched back "YOU LOVE HURTING OTHERS, INSULTING THEM AND USING YOUR QUIRK FREELY. YOU ARE A TERRIBLE PERSON AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR QUIRK! AND YOU KNOW IT BUT YOU KEEP ACTING AS IF YOU ARE SOME KIND OF VICTIM WHEN PEOPLE CALL YOU OUT ON YOUR BULLSHIT! EVERYTHING YOU CALL US- JERKS, LAZY, QUIRKIST - IS EVERYTHING YOU ARE!"
"Ojiro!" Aizawa shouted while standing up and glaring at him with his quirk
"AND YOU" he exclaimed while turning towards Aizawa "YOU SAW SHINSOU BEING A TERRIBLE PERSON MULTIPLE TIMES AND YOU DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I DON'T KNOW IF YOU IGNORE IT BECAUSE YOU AGREE WITH HIM OR YOU ARE JUST WILLINGLY BLIND AND STUPID BUT I DON'T CARE! YOU ARE ONE OF THE WORST TEACHERS I EVER HAD AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY YOU ARE ONE WHEN YOU CLEARLY HATES THIS JOB!"
Mashirao was on a roll and despite knowing he should stop, that he was being extremely disrespectful and that this was a terrible idea, he couldn't
Weeks of resentment piled up and Mashirao couldn't keep them down anymore
"YOU PLAY FAVORITES, CONSTANTLY LIES TO US, SLEEP ON YOUR JOB AND NEVER HELP YOUR STUDENTS DESPITE IT BEING YOU GODDAMN JOB! YOU EXPEL PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO TEACH THEM YOURSELF"
All around Mashirao his classmates stared at him with shock on their faces but he could see in their eyes that this is something that most of them thought before, even Iida despite his appalled expression seemed to agree with him on some points
"AND YET SHINSOU COULD KILL A MAN IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU WOULD DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! AND HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE! MINETA HARASSES THE GIRLS CONSTANTLY AND YOU IGNORE THEM WHILE BAKUGOU TRIED TO ATTACK MIDORIYA SINCE DAY ONE BUT YOU NEVER DISCIPLINE OR EXPEL THEM! YOU SHOULDN'T BE A TEACHER AND I WONDER IF SHOULD EVEN BE A HERO"
He panted as he finished his rant. One look at Aizawa-Sensei's furious glare made Mashirao feel a wave of regret but he wouldn't take back his words. He meant everything he said and would gladly take any consequences for speaking up the truth
So he did something that he would have never considered doing before and glared right back
"If you hate having me as your teacher then you can leave. In fact let me make both of us a favor: Ojiro Mashirao, you are expelled" Aizawa-sensei declared
Mashirao let out a exhale
He was disappointed and sad and regretful, of course he was, but he also knew this was coming so he was not surprised
"You can't do this!" Hakagure shouted while standing up. Mashirao could see that while she was the only one that spoke out- most of his classmates (or he supposes ex-classmates) were all shocked and angry and would probably end up following Hagakure example
"I can and if you don't want to hey expelled you will shut up and sit down" Aizawa-Sensei threatened, it was clear to Mashirao that this only made everyone else angrier
"Please, Hakagure stand down" he pleaded, he wouldn't bring others down with him
"Ojiro" she said softly
"I do not regret what I did but I don't want others to suffer because of me" he said and she reluctantly sat down
"Pack your things and get the hell out of MY classroom " Aizawa-Sensei sneered
Mashirao packed up his things and left with a nod of goodbye to his former classmates who were all staring at him with sadness or shock
He didn't bother looking at Shinsou direction as he knew exactly what expression he would be making
When Mashirao left U.A he didn't return home, instead choosing to wander around the city
Only picking the train back home a little bit earlier than he would have normally picked on a school day
He was trying to delay the inevitable conversation and reprimand and disappointment that would follow but he knew that he had to tell his parents himself or it would be worse if they learned about his expulsion through other ways
Considering they didn't believe him when he told them about the reason behind his detention, something that still strained their relationship until today, he doubted they would believe him now
And so he entered home with a gloomy and fearful atmosphere around him
"Mashirao! you came back early" his mom called out when he entered
"There's something I need to tell both of you" he started, deciding to rip the bandaid off
"I've been expelled"
Like he expected, his parents didn't listen to him when he tried to explain what happened, only thinking he was making excuses
Knowing he screamed at a teacher also didn't help
Mashirao had never seen his parents so angry and disappointed before
He was sent to his bedroom without his phone and a promise that they would speak more later
He now sat on his bed despondent, wondering what he will do with his life now
No hero school will accept someone that was expelled from U.A, in fact few high schools will
He was brought out of his thoughts by a sudden chill in the air
He looked up in time to see a dangerously familiar purple portal open in the middle of his bedroom and a man wearing a trenchcoat, top hat and mask stepping out of it
"Ojiro Mashirao I presume" the man spoke calmly
"Who are you!?" Mashirao demanded while standing up
"Hopefully a future friend, now please come with me" the man said while bowing towards the open portal
"What? no!" As if Mashirao would follow someone that was clearly working with the league of villains. Those psychopaths that attacked his class and Hosu
"In this case" in a blink the man dashed towards him, hand extended forwards. He moved quickly but Mashirao still managed to hit him in the stomach with his tail and send him smashing into his table
"Mashirao, what was that!?" His father shouted from the living room
"CALL THE-" he shouted to his parents down there while running towards the door, but before he could reach it or finish speaking, he felt a light touch on his back
And everything went blue
Mashirao groggily opened up his eyes, he tried to move only to realize he couldn't as his body was chained to a metl chair
He opened his eyes fully in a panic as the memories of his kidnapping returned
"Finally you woke up" Mashirao body tensed when he heard a familiar voice, his tail would have lifted up if it wasn't stuck to the ground by chains
Mashirao looked around fearfully. He noticed he was in what looked like bar surrounded by several people
There was a man with burn covering his whole body, a blonde haired girl wearing an school uniform, a boy whose face was covered by a gas mask, a man with a lizard mutation, a big woman with a huge piece of metal at her side, yet another wearing a full bodysuit with a split on the middle, the man with the top hat that kidnapped him
And two familiar people that made his blood chill
A man covered mist cleaning a cup behind the bar counter and the person whose voice he heard, a young adult sitting on a chair right in front of him
Kurogiri and
"Shigaraki" he said with fright while staring at those blood red eyes full of malice, hidden behind a disembodied hand partially covering his face
The leaders of the league of villains, the group that attacked his class inside the USJ on an attempt to kill on All Might
"So you do remember me, great" Shigaraki says "I don't want to waste time so let's just skip to the end"
Mashirao froze as Shigaraki pinned him with a red eyed stare
"I want you to join my league of villains"
"W-what! Why!?" Why did Shigaraki think he would become a villain or work with the people that tried kill him and his classmates
"If a U.A student joined us, the school and hero society reputation would be damaged. You could even help us recruit our main target from your class and put the nail down on U.A reputation!" Shigaraki explains
"Wha- and why would I want any of this!? What makes you think I want to be a villain!" Mashirao exclaims
"Revenge of course" Shigaraki says with a cruel smile that sent shivers down Mashirao's spine "I know how and why you were expelled. Calling out a terrible teacher and his favorite student. Don't you want revenge? Don't you want to make U.A pay for expelling you? Don't you want to make your former teacher suffer? Don't you want to break the legs of Shinsou Hitoshi like he broke yours?"
H-how did the villains know so much! And they also kidnapped him so quickly after his expulsion, before the media could have caught any whiff of it much less reported
There must be a traitor in Class 1-A!
He needs to tell someone!
Assuming he manages to escape of course
"I-I will never become a villain!" He says with a stutter but still determined
"Why not?" Shigaraki asks, now irritated, furiously scratching his neck "An expulsion from U.A is as bad as a criminal record, your life is over. You have nothing to lose by joining us, different from the heroes we won't throw you away, so join us and you can be useful!"
Mashirao would never join them and he was about to repeat it again when he realized something
Did he even have a choice?
If he refused to become a villain, Shigaraki would just kill him
Mashirao always wanted to become a hero. Maybe not a top ten or even twenty but a reliable and honorable one
But now that dream is impossible, even if he somehow leaves this place alive he will not be capable of becoming a hero anyway
But that doesn't mean he still couldn't help people
"Fine" Mashirao said with a sigh before staring straight into Shigaraki eyes "I will become a villain"
And he will destroy the league from the inside
