It shouldn’t hurt like this.
Eiji knows it wasn’t supposed to hurt like this.
After all, they’ve only been going out with each other for, what? Two weeks? And they’ve known each other for three weeks, not even a month, for fuck's sake.
So why does it hurt so much?
Ash planted a kiss on Eiji’s cheek, leaving his cheek very warm. Eiji looked at Ash and he was looking softly at him.
“You’ll call, right?” Eiji says, trying to sound nonchalant but failing. He sounded downright clingy.
“Of course, I will, you know that,” Ash said, placing his hands on either side of Eiji’s cheeks and he melted. It was true, all they have talked about is nothing but this for the past few weeks that sometimes Eiji wonders how Ash is not annoyed with him.
Eiji swallowed back tears. He can’t cry. Not now. Not when Ash is so calm about the whole situation.
He will cry if Ash continues to look at him like that.
Eiji looked away, he really can’t right now. He noticed people looking at them and he saw a person vaguely recognizing them. What do you expect? he thought to himself. Eiji was a famous professional pole vaulter and Ash was a famous actor. The media would’ve jumped at their throats if it weren’t for Shorter and Sing. People were bound to notice them.
“I-“
Eiji turned back to him as Ash started to say something but the overhead speaker spoke. He turned around to hear what the speaker was saying and, by the look on his face as he turned around again, Eiji guessed he had to board his flight.
Ash clasped their hands together and Eiji wondered if he could capture this moment in his mind, just the two of them and everything in the world is perfect if it’s only just for a second.
“I- I‘ll miss you,” Ash whispered, his voice breaking. This was the last straw for Eiji as he broke down against Ash’s soft black turtleneck shirt, Ash’s fashionable shirt be damned. Eiji could feel Ash’s arms around him tighten and could feel him shake with silent sobs. Eiji feels so bad about it that he quiets down immediately.
He looked up at Ash and could see him crying silent tears. Eiji reaches up and gently wipes Ash’s tears away, and smiles softly at him.
And for a moment, it was only them in the world.
Then, the overhead spoke again, calling the passengers of Ash’s flight to board their plane.
Ash put their foreheads together and looked into Eiji’s eyes, and Eiji could see their future together in the midst of Ash’s jade eyes, eyes like a warm spring day when everything is new and beautiful.
“I’ll come back home, don’t worry, my love,” Ash muttered, still looking into Eiji’s eyes and Eiji thinks that he could just stand here, in the middle of a busy airport on a Wednesday, and stay with him forever and ever.
