"You know, Babs, this is the last place that I ever expected you to suggest for dinner."
Dick couldn't pull his gaze from the menu in his hands. How exactly could a steak manage to be worth three figures?
Barbara chuckled. "I thought you'd be used to this kind of place. Bruce never struck me as the Taco Whiz type."
He shrugged. "Guess it's been a while since I've been somewhere like this."
While he'd never turn his nose up to filet mignon, it wasn't exactly the kind of thing he could pop in and pick up at four in the morning once his patrol ended.
Barbara leaned forward, wrapping a hand around Dick's own. "If it's the bill you're worried about..."
Dick's cheeks flushed. One call to Bruce was all it would take to get more than a decade's worth of his salary to materialize in his bank account. It was the sort of thing his coworkers could only dream of. They might wear the same badge and patrol the same streets, but Dick and his fellow officers would never stand on equal footing. Hell, most of them would probably never step foot in this place unless it was being held up!
"Don't worry about it."
She shook her head. "I should be the one saying that. Believe me, Blockbuster isn't about to start knocking at the poorhouse's door!"
Dick couldn't push back his smile. "I never knew library sciences was such a lucrative field."
Barbara grinned. "Just wait until you see what else it can buy!"
