Work Text:

"Oi bruv, I can't believe you got an after school detention, you should've legged it." Mari dragged her little brother out of the school corridor, still applying mascara.

Sunny said nothing, still reeling over the fact he got into a fight earlier. "Saw the fight on insta though, you totally won that. Did that git not go to detention?" Mari asked.

"No." Sunny said.

"What a load of shit." His sister said, pausing for a moment to check her nails and smack her lips, "Wouldn't be surprised if that bloke doesn't show up tomorrow, especially knowing your creepy ass friend. You should try hang with me and my mates instead."

"I don't think Basil would appreciate you talking about him like that." They had walked to the top of the stairs by now, the dark staircase had no lights on. It looked like it could go on forever.

"What, is he your boyfriend? Look man, it's 2023, I support you being gay and shit, but like, please, anyone but that kid. He's dodgy as fuck. He's gonna hold you in a basement."

"He wouldn't do that!"

"He would, don't even deny it!"

Sunny didn't want to argue with his sister, so he tried to go downstairs, but she blocked his way. Or, at least, tried to. Sunny didn't realise she had begun to move in front of him. Because of this, he still tried to move forward, leading his sister to tumble down the stairs.

"Shit!" Sunny yelled, watching his big sister fall. Unfortunately, their school's stairs were quite tall, and the bend was further down. At least she should have survived the fall, right? Just as he was running down to check, tears in his eyes, he heard a loud crashing sound from one of the doors downstairs.

He heard the sound of footsteps running up the other half of the stairs, until they reached the point where Mari's body was. He recognised the figure immediately. Basil.

"Woah! I thought I heard someone dying, but I didn't expect it to be your sister!" He exclaimed, a bit too happy, and Sunny was confused, but before he could say anything, Basil moved. He was crouching over Mari's body, seemingly inspecting it. Sunny tensed, wondering if he did legitimately kill his sister.

Unfortunately, Basil confirmed his fears when he whispered, "Yep, she's dead." He turned towards Sunny. "What does your sister's handwriting look like again?"

Sunny was too in shock to wonder or question exactly what Basil was doing, so nervously, he reached into his sister's bag and found one of her notebooks. He showed it to Basil who quickly took it, ripping out a page and writing something down, being sure to carefully look at her handwriting. He assumed his friend was trying to forge something, but it didn't occur to him exactly what until he reached into his own bag, taking out a rope.

"I know you're shocked," Basil said, tying a noose, "but you're going to get into trouble! I don't want that, so if anyone asks, your sister was so disappointed in you getting a detention that she hung herself!"

"W-What.." Sunny stammered.

"Oh come on, you don't see how weird she's been acting lately too? That's your sister!"

Basil was right, Sunny had noticed. He had noticed how his sister went from nice and caring to everyone around her to becoming an utter chav. The girl who once was incredibly popular and kind to all remained popular, but her compassion was gone, possessed by the spirit of a Brit. He had noticed a similar change in her boyfriend, Hero, too. How he went from being nice to becoming a roadman. He had no idea how this related to faking his sister's suicide, though.

Basil saw his puzzled look, so he elaborated. "She regained her sense when she saw you becoming a delinquent. Unable to live with the idea, she, well, you know.." He waved his arms at the corpse now situated next to a stool that Sunny did not see Basil get.

Sunny still looked confused, so Basil sighed and was ready to tie the noose on the ceiling, before realising there was nowhere to hang it.

"Seems like we have to relocate."

After a difficult time avoiding teachers, the corpse had been hung, suicide note just next to the stool.

And Sunny was about to throw up.

Basil looked quite proud of his handiwork, and Sunny made an educated guess that this may have only been his second or third time attempting a stunt like this, which would explain both the skill and the lack of it.

Sunny began to retch. He couldn't believe what he just did, what he assisted in. He pushed his sister down the stairs and helped his friend hang her body. Basil turned to him, confused, before patting his back.

...

Nothing came out.

"Are you feeling better now?" Basil asked, and Sunny could only nod. It had been a long day. "Well, now we need to figure out what we're going to do about this. Should we go home and act clueless?"

Sunny didn't respond.

"Clueless it is!" Basil said.

When Sunny got home, he got a scolding from his mum. She asked where Mari went, and he lied. He said he didn't see her and that she didn't come to pick him up. That led to him overhearing her try to get hold of her from his room, until the school called.

They only just now found her body.

And Sunny realised.

They never did think of the security cameras.

They would check the footage.

They would be done for life.

In a panicked frenzy, Sunny reached for his phone and opened WhatsApp.

sunny: BASIL

basil: yeah?

sunny: THEY FOUND HER

sunny: THE SECURITY CAMERAS

sunny: WERE FUCKED

The message underneath Basil's contact indicated he was typing, before his message was sent.

basil: dw

basil: you think i didnt think of that

sunny: ...

Basil sent a sticker, a gif of a cat sticking its tongue out and licking the screen. Sunny was about to flip. Basil could never take anything seriously.

basil: ive hacked into the school cameras. they've been disabled for the past few weeks

basil: they couldn't figure out how to fix it and they can;t afford for anyone to fix it after the incident

sunny: which incident,,,

basil: the one where i tried to burn the science lab down

basil: yk with the chemicals

Oh, Sunny forgot about that. Basil's mass murder attempts were just common occurrence, and it was a shock he hadn't been expelled yet, or even arrested. He should be long dealt with. If Sunny had to guess why he wasn't yet, he'd say that they were in a movie and this was all for plot convenience.

basil: anyway

basil: you just left evidence

basil: so ill tske care of it

Suddenly, his WhatsApp crashed. When he reopened the app, he noticed he and Basil's conversation from today had been wiped completely. Sunny took a few minutes to wonder where the hell Basil got his hacking skills.

That was cut short, however, when his mum burst into his room to break the news.

At least he probably wouldn't get caught yet.

The next day at school was full of condolences and sobbing, both crocodile tears and genuine tears for the most popular girl in school. A tribute for her was up near the Sports Hall, detailing her life at Nearby Academy before her tragic death.

Sunny didn't want to look. It was his fault, after all.

Many people approached him, offering him support if he needed it. Aubrey, Kel, Hero. Something was different about Hero, though. He had lost his 'roadman spark', if you could call it that. He seemed more like the Hero he knew before they changed.

The next two weeks passed with a blur. He knew something had changed about his friends, but he couldn't really care. Until one day, during lunch, Kel approached him. He could see Hero nervously watching from the sidelines, offering an awkward thumbs up to Kel when he turned to look at him.

"Hey, Sunny.." Kel started, not really sure what to say, "I'm sorry about what happened."

They were sitting on a bench together. Kel looked a lot smaller and nervous than he usually did. Sunny really wished he would skip the condolences and get on with whatever he was saying, as it was clearly stressing him out.

"Uhm, I was wondering if you wanted to.." A crowd was forming now, egging Kel on, and Sunny slowly began to realise what Kel was doing.

Is this a confession?

"Fuck it. Sunny, do you want to go out with me?" The people around them gasped, whispering to each other about what Sunny might say. The people at the school really needed some positivity in their life after Mari's death. No matter how mean she ended up before her death, they knew her ghost wouldn't want to see everyone miserable. Especially not her friends. Especially not Sunny.

As Sunny opened his mouth to respond, a voice cried out.

"Wait, what!?"

Sunny's head snapped around, only to see Basil standing outside the front of the abandoned PE shed that only he ever went inside.

"No! Sunny, say no!" Basil cried.

The crowd was tense. Everyone knew what Basil was capable of.

"Don't listen to what that dick has to say, Sunny! Make up your own mind!" A familiar voice yelled from the crowd. Sunny looked over to her and saw Aubrey. Her hair that she got scolded for multiple times was now tied into a high ponytail, he assumed she had PE next.

Sunny tried to ignore Basil. "Uh, I think I'd like that, Kel."

"No!" Basil shouted, running out of the shed holding a javelin that the school used for PE. "Don't go out with Kel, Sunny! It's not too late! Revoke consent!"

"What is wrong with you?!" Kel got up, approaching Basil despite not being armed at all. The crowd changed form again. It was like there was a huge circle surrounding Sunny, Kel and Basil. What was once an innocent confession was now a fight to the death.

"Shut the fuck up!" Basil yelled, charging at Kel, ready to hit him with the javelin. Kel dodged, realising he really couldn't fight back. He may have been physically stronger and taller, but Basil was quicker and armed.

Sunny was awkwardly running with Kel, not wanting to stand at one side unless he got in Kel's way.

"What's- What's your problem?" Kel gasped out, avoiding attacks like his life depended on it, because that was a fucking javelin and it certainly did. "You can't just force Sunny to go out with you!"

"I'm not forcing him, idiot! Stop putting words in my mouth! I don't care if Sunny goes out with anyone! That's not my choice to make!" Basil paused his speech for a moment, taking a deep breath and lunging at Kel again, "I just don't want him going out with you!"

Suddenly, Sunny struck. He kicked Basil. Right between his legs. Somehow, despite Sunny being really weak, Basil was flung to the other side of the field.

No one thought Basil could recover from a kick like that, so they all rejoiced. The lingering threat over the school's lives was over, thank the lord.

Meanwhile, Kel, who was completely out of breath, high-fived Sunny. "Wow! Good job, that was impressive, but that had to have hurt.." Kel spared a glance at where Basil had landed, but he couldn't see anything through the people talking to their friends, "Anyway, where do you want to go out? Maybe for icecream?"

Once again, they had been interrupted by a sound coming from the PE shed.

Was that...

A fucking chainsaw?

Kel and Sunny turned, and yep, Basil was now armed with a chainsaw.

"What?!" Kel cried, "How did you survive that kick?"

"You.. You idiot!" Basil panted for breath, clearly worn out from he and Kel's... one sided fight. "That didn't work because I'm fucking castrated!"

Sunny and Kel gasped. "Isn't castrating a minor illegal?" Sunny asked, but Kel glared at him.

"I think we have more things to worry about."

"I'll get you, Kel!" Basil shouted, sprinting towards them. The crowd took off in multiple different directions, screaming. Kel and Sunny ran into the woods near the school, Aubrey and Hero following them in case they needed backup.

It seemed like it was over as soon as it started. The four was backed into a corner, with Basil approaching Kel, holding his chainsaw threateningly.

Until something so much worse appeared behind Basil. It creeped closer and closer, until Aubrey pointed it out in terror. "Behind you!"

"What?" Basil turned to her confused, before turning around. "Oh my God."

Behind Basil was none other than Donald Trump. "Hello, kids. Would you like to help me get elected?"

Basil backed away, terrified. "What.. What the fuck are you doing in Britain? You carrot bitch!"

"I saw your stunt back there, when you hacked that chat. You can help me get votes."

"As if I'd help a fucking orange!"

"But I could really use your help, I promise that-" Trump was suddenly kicked in the face by a familiar figure.

"Go to hell!" She said, and everyone gasped in shock.

Sunny spoke first. "M-Mari?"

"Oh, hi Sunny!"

Hero stopped dead in his tracks. Basil stared blankly.

"Thanks for getting rid of that fake, by the way." Mari said.

"What fake?" Kel asked, very confused.

"That chav version of me! I think I got replaced by some British girl.. I'd never be that rude to you guys! Now come on, give me a hug!"

Everyone rushed to hug Mari, except Hero.

"Wait.." Hero said.

"Yeah?"

"So.. You're implying you didn't kill yourself- or.. at least, that fake didn't?"

Oh.

Notes:

wow, kel. weird move asking your friend out on a date two weeks after his sister dies.. good thing she's actually alive and cheering you on! watch out for the guy with the chainsaw, by the way.
