“Rei-chan?” Tohru bit her lip as she called the name of the sailor senshi.
“Yeah?” The raven haired senshi looked up at the ‘Fruits Basket’ protagonist.
“I’m sorry about what happened to your mother, and about your father too. I know I’ve been in the same situation but you’re truly amazing risking your own life to be a sailor senshi with your friends, especially since you have already lost the people you care about. I’m so happy you have the other senshi and your grandpa.” Her gentle voice replied, her chocolate brown eyes sorrowfully looking into the senshi’s violet eyes.
“Thank you, Tohru-kun. But tell me, how often do you think about your mother?; or your father, even though you were so young when you lost him.” Rei glanced at the window as she heard the sound of rain fall to the shrine’s ground. It was another rainy day in Juban.
“Well, to say the least, my thoughts about Mum became less frequent after Kyo and I got together but there is never a day where I don’t think of her. I had realised it after Kyo had confessed to me about her, I still valued Mum but I realised that she was no longer that person I valued most. In terms of my dad, I don’t often think of him aside from the way I speak like him. All I can really say is Mum is still always going to be one of the most important people in my life but Rei-chan if you don’t mind me asking, what was your mother like?” Tohru exhaled, an image of Kyoko, her mother flashing in her mind.
“You always seem to speak about your mother a lot, I could always tell how special she was to you, Kyoko-san sounded like a wonderful woman, just like you are. I try not to reflect on the past but there are those days where I will sit at the fire and think about her. I was only six when she died, so the few memories and pictures I have of her being healthy and alive without the hardship of my father’s neglect, I truly treasure. Mama was a beautiful, intelligent woman and an amazing mother even in her dying days when she was depressed and weak, she would always dote and care for me like nothing was wrong. Grandpa always tells me how much I look like her.”
“I’m so sorry, Rei-chan. Your mother sounded like a wonderful woman and I’m sure that she would be so proud of where you are today. You’re really an amazing human, I’ve always admired the sailor senshi for how courageous they are. Speaking to you made me realise how strong you guys really are. I admire you so much, Rei-chan.” The brunette, beamed at the fire senshi.
“Thank you, Tohru-kun. I’ve always admired you as well for being so strong and kind, you really opened up so many people and truly helped them including me.” Rei beamed slightly.
“You really do have a pickled plum on your back Rei-chan and I can see it so clearly .” A tear dropped from Tohru’s eye as she went over to hug Rei.
