Amateurs Discuss Tactics, Professionals Discuss Logistics

Summary:

Crissa is a professional and doesn't understand why her husband insists on acting like an amateur. Jake just wants his kiss.

AKA: Pure fluffy goodness about the challenges of kissing in a cowboy hat.

Work Text:

“Well hey, cowboy.” Crissa let her twang coat her words as she cocked her hip, watching Jake approach with a smile.

“Well hey, cowgirl.” He smirked down at her and hooked his fingers through her belt loops to pull her closer.

She let out a startled laugh but happily rested her hands against his chest.

“C’mere.” Jake guided her chin with his free hand.

Crissa popped onto her tiptoes to meet him.

“Hold on,” she muttered, pulling off the hat and placing it on Jake’s head.

“Excuse me.” He was frowning and Crissa froze from where she had been leaning in again. “That’s yours ma’am.” He put the hat back on her head.

“I know but we already have enough issues with the brim when you’re wearing a hat. How do you think this is going to go?” Crissa furrowed her brows as she explained.

“Sexily, very sexily.” Jake put his hand on her hips for emphasis as she snorted. “Have I told you I’ve always had a thing for cowgirls?” He brought one hand up to nudge the front of the brim with a knuckle, nudging her closer with the other.

“Then what the hell are you doing with me?”

Jake sighed, pinning her with an exasperated look.

“Sorry, here.” Crissa tugged on his collar to get him closer. Then angled her head to try to overcome the height difference. Then reached to push the brim even higher before sighing.

“This is a logistical issue.” Crissa muttered as she pulled the hat off again. Her arm dropped to the side as she leaned back into Jake. This time, the kiss was cut off by his laughter.

“It is!” His family all erupted in laughter as well. She turned around, fully exasperated at the continued lack of a kiss. “It IS!”

They kept laughing and Jake snaked his arms around her middle to nose at her neck. His breathy laughter was normally a welcome sound but as he moved towards her cheek, Crissa shook her head and pulled the hat back on. She pulled the brim as low as it would go and crossed her arms with a pout.

“Oh come on. You have to admit that was funny.” He gently poked her cheek. “Where’s my kiss?”

“Revoked.” She muttered grudgingly.

Jake laughed into her shoulder.

“Here.” He pulled the hat off and balanced it on his own head. Crissa leaned her head against his chest to watch. He braced his hand around her throat, pulling on her jaw to bring her lips up to his.
