Bite The Hand That Angers You

Summary:

Anger causes violent reactions. Shepherd finds out the hard way.

Notes:

Shiloh made a comment about Sarnax biting things when he's angry and all I could think of was this.

Work Text:

"Shepherd, you're being ridiculous."

"No, Sarnax! The next time I see Strahdanya, I'm shooting that bitch!"

"Shepherd. Doing that will only get us all killed. She will met her end and burn, all in due time. Calm yourself."

Shepherd whipped around and snarled, "Don't tell me to calm down, Sarnax! She's a menace! A vile creature of evil and we constantly let her waltz among us!"

Sarnax narrowed his eyes at Shepherd and turned to face him fully, "Do not speak to me of evil, Shepherd. I am here to purge evil. That is my goal, but we are not strong enough, not well enough informed, if you do what you plan to, you'll kill us all and then there will be no one left to fight her."

Shepherd stepped forward with an angry snarl, getting into Sarnax's face. "So we just let her shove us around and insult us!? Play with us like pawns and drag us around by our faces!? That's bullshit, Sarnax."

The two could hear Kana start to get up now, protesting the escalating fight, but it was too late as the lizardfolk reeled back from the abrupt invasion of his space, eyes flashing. A deep set instinct welled up inside him and suddenly he was lunging forward, sending Shepherd stumbling back with a surprised yelp, grabbing onto Sarnax who had just enough presence of mind to sink his teeth only into the cloth of Shepherd's shirt and poncho.

The three humans with them yelled out in shock and surprise, the sounds of abrupt movements getting closer to them as Shepherd held the hissing and shaking lizardfolk in a light hug. He instantly shot out a hand, "Hey, stay back. Stay back, you'll only stress him out more. That was my fault. I shouldn't have done that. Everything's alright. Everyone relax."

He ignored Clayton's exclamation about Sarnax's teeth in his flesh and turned his attention to the lizardfolk currently attached to him. "Sarnax, ya alright bud? Feel like unclenching your jaw anytime soon?"

His response was a lash of his tail and an abrupt jerk of Sarnax's head, something that would have shredded flesh, should he have ahold of Shepherd's. Victoria gasped in concern and Shepherd waved a hand again, "Y'all relax. He's only got me by my clothes. I tripped a reflex. Stop crowding him and let him relax."

There was silence from the others now and Shepherd felt Sarnax relax after a few moments and soon after, he released his locked jaw and stepped back staring down and to the side. He pulled his lantern close to his chest and shuffled awkwardly.

Shepherd gazed down at him, a slow smirk taking over his face. “You alright now, Sarnax?”

Sarnax finally looked up at Sarnax, face stony once again, “Yes, Shepherd. I am quite alright.”

Shepherd’s smirk widened to a grin, “Ya know, Sarnax, if ya wanted a snack, you could’a just asked.”

Sarnax turned and looked at Shepherd, squinting at him, “I was not hungry, Shepherd. I bit you out of anger.”

Shepherd only shook his head with an amused grin.
