Star Light, Star Bright

Summary:

Yvaine experiences the joys of human touch for the first time.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

In the millennia Yvaine had spent in the nebulous etherea above the earth watching its denizens go about their lives, she never understood why humans spent so much time touching each other. Stars, after all, were content to keep their distance from one another while they danced their way through the heavens, giving one another no more than a fleeting wave or a blown kiss from afar. It was for the best, really, since if two stars collided, the resulting supernova would cause immeasurable disaster.

But “collide” was exactly what she and Tristan did the first time they made love, and suddenly she understood why humans were incapable of keeping their hands off each other. The moment their lips met, a spark flared within her with an intensity she’d never experienced, not even on the darkest of new moon nights, and the light that spark ignited grew with every touch of his hand upon her bare skin. The warmth it created deep inside her was exhilarating, and she clung to him, desirous of ever more of that thrilling glow.

It wasn’t until she felt him flinch from her that she dared to open her eyes lest she somehow break this perfect spell by peeking, and found him turning his head away with his eyes shut tight.

“Are you alright?” she asked, her concern only dampening her utter bliss in the slightest. She had so little experience with humans and their frail mortality, she wondered if perhaps she had done something to hurt him, but any worry she had was quickly assuaged when Tristan laughed self-consciously.

“Yes,” he said, “It’s just, er…you’ve gotten very…bright.”

Yvaine looked down at the luminosity emanating from her heart in rays more glorious than any she’d ever produced before, and then it was her turn to laugh. “Oh, I’m so sorry! Here, try this.”

She shinnied one of her deep blue stockings down her thigh (terribly uncomfortable things anyway), laid it over his eyes, and swiftly tied it in a knot behind his head.

“Better?” she asked.

His only reply was a mischievous grin before he took her in his arms and laid her on the bed, all further kisses guided by instinct rather than mere sight.
