Work Text:

Grayson scanned the crowded room, her eyes searching for something she was yet to locate. She took another sip from her champagne and turned her face towards the big window that oversaw the city, instinctively checking on it. Then she saw the dark navy silhouette leaning over the bannisters, seemingly doing the same thing Grayson was -- watching over Piltover.

The enforcer stepped outside from the wide doors with a fond smile on her face.  “I was looking for you,” she said slowly, leaning on to bannisters beside her.

The other woman was not startled.

“Hey.” she smiled and put her satin gloved hand onto the enforcer’s.

“For a moment I thought you left. Figured you did not want to be seen next to the loser of the competition.” Grayson said and left out a deep chuckle.

The other woman smiled with her over that remark and pulled her body closer to hers to leave a soft kiss on her cheek. “Too bad Miss Kiramman was better than you.” She cleaned the red lipstick stain she left on Grayson’s skin gently with her gloved fingers.

“She was better than me. She is a very promising young lady.”

“That she is. But don’t you think she is…” She chose her next words carefully. “too young to be participating in these kinds of events?”

“The kid has talent. If she wants to showcase it, she can.”

“I don’t think it is her that wants to showcase her talent.”

Both of them knew who it was they were talking about even though no names were mentioned. Grayson thought carefully. “That is true. Still, I think it is good for her to get involved in this community at a young age. It’ll show her the life outside of her house.”

The woman nodded slightly. “But you know how I get… I’m worried for her.”

Grayson smiled. Of course, she knew, maybe too well. She knew how the woman got the biggest heart that could care for anything and everything.

Her smile faltered when she noticed her companion’s body shivering.

“I told you you’d be cold.”

“I’m not cold.” The woman firmly said, but her body said otherwise as her shivering increased.

“Here.” Grayson did not listen to the woman’s complaints as she took off her jacket with grace and draped it over her companion’s slim figure. The woman snuggled the thick fabric of the enforcer’s jacket, enjoying the warmth it brought to her cold skin but could not help but feel guilty as she looked over Grayson to see her standing in only a button-up.

“Now you’ll be cold.”

“I’ll be fine.” Grayson insisted.

“But-”

“Just say thank you, darling.”

Grayson could see the defeat in the woman’s eyes as she finally gave in. “Thank you.” She said and let the oversized jacket hug her comfortably.

Grayson smiled. “There you are.” She took hold of her hand and brought it to her lips, kissing her gloved knuckles. “You’re welcome.

“I must say, love, I love seeing you in this.” The woman said and pointed towards Grayson’s top with her hand.

“I know.” Grayson smirked and took a small sip from her champagne. She noticed a slight pain shooting from her left shoulder to under her arm as she moved, and rolled her shoulder a few times to try to get rid of it. It was no use.

“I guess I am finally at an age where I get sore by simply shooting a gun.” The woman laughed at Grayson’s grumpy face.

“Ah, Grayson. We’re getting old. Isn’t that lovely?”

Grayson nodded slightly, forgetting about the pain, her soft gaze on the other woman’s graying roots and smile lines. So lovely, she thought and smiled.

The woman turned towards the door and Grayson followed her gaze to see the young Kiramman sitting there, on the stairs with her big trophy next to her small body. She averted her eyes when caught looking, but the woman did not miss her eyes glimmering with curiosity. It was like she tried so hard to stop herself from lurking but was too intrigued to see the old couple interact.

“I think she’s waiting for you.”

“Why does she look so serious… and sad? Children her age should never be this glum.”

“Why don’t you find out and tell me afterwards, love?” the woman said and took off Grayson’s jacket to give it back to her. She placed it on the enforcer’s shoulders and turned around to go inside.

“Congratulations on your impressive victory.” She said to Caitlyn in a warm tone, meaning every word, and turned back one last time to flash a smile to Grayson before disappearing behind the wide doors.

Notes:

Go check out HappyLamp's story Role Model, which inspired this fic! The dialogue from “I told you you’d be cold.” to “You’re welcome.” is taken directly from their fic.

I love imagining Grayson in a domestic, tender, and sapphic relationship :) and to think that Caitlyn's first exposure to queer joy is Grayson makes me SO happy I had to write it. This is a very short fic but I hope you enjoy it.

please let me know what you think in the comments !!
