Work Text:
Have you heard the story of the man who married death?
If you haven't listen close, he began like all the rest
He was the embodiment of adventure, of bravery and courage
She grew fond of him one day when he was talking to the forest
The forest was hers, enchanted and oh so magical
The animals were her messengers
The plants, her eyes
She saw how he treated every little thing like they were his child
oh how the sun reflected off of his blond hair
How the ocean was trapped in his eyes
how his joy brightened up even the darkest of skies
One day, Oh how this day was so special indeed
She placed a spell on herself so she could fulfill her need
The need to be there in person to see the one she grew oh so fond of
She descended in the forest she blessed and waited
He came all right
It was love at first sight
It was like their souls were connected
He would say they were soul mates
She would say that they were simply meant to be
Years flew by, but then the gods took notice
The gods grew jealous
Why does death of all gods get something so pure?
Something so lovely
Something so unbefitting of her
So they took it away, banished her from the realm of the mortals
And refused to let her see her beloved again
Oh but death is wise
She has been in existence for far longer than any of the gods have been
The only one that could match her is her dear twin Life
But life would never do anything to death
They need each other too much to let any harm come to one another
So life let death do as she pleased
Oh and what she did put a smile of life's face indeed
She blessed her beloved
She blessed him with sight that could see the smallest details
With ears that could hear a pin drop
With magic as powerful as death itself
And with wings as dark as the abyss
He became her Angel Of Death
And as her angel,, it's only natural that they see one another is it not?
It was a loophole the gods overlooked, it was a loophole that made the gods
shook
She and her angel were able to speak every day
They were content
But they weren't happy
To only speak but not to touch
To only hear but not to see
It was a different type of torture that made their souls ache
One night Her angel pleaded
“ Please, let me touch you again! Let me feel your breath against my skin! Let me
hold you tight again! To walk this earth without you by my side is shattering my
heart, and I'm cutting myself trying to pick up all the pieces!”
She watched as her angel begged to the altar he made of her and she could feel
her own heart shatter into a million pieces
“Oh my darling angel”
She would cry
“ If I were to descend onto the mortal plane everything would die, the plants
would wilt and the water would dry up. The grass would go gray and the sky
would collapse. I would ruin the beauty of earth by draining it of its life”
Her angel would let his eyes burn in despair
“ I would rather the beauty of earth disappear if it means i could see yours”
Years would pass
And her angel would grow more and more desperate
Seeing him like this killed her inside so she worked on a little project of hers
She would bless 3 children with immortality so they could walk the earth with
her husband
While she worked on lifting the curse the gods placed on her
And that's exactly what she did
She blessed a child that was more hell than human
He was stronger than most and was used as something deadly
He was blessed by the blood god, but now he was hers
She would deal with the consequences at a later date
The child was taught nothing but death
So her angel will teach him life
The next child was one that could play humans like a fiddle
He could control their every move with just his words alone
He was raised to do as he was told
He was raised to lead, not to follow
He was something without emotions
He was dead inside
So her angel will teach him how to live
The last and final child was like a flame
He burned so bright
He could light up the sky if he wanted too
But the people didn't like how bright he was
They grew jealous of his flame
So they snuffed it out
Her angel will let him burn again
Oh she can still remember the day when her love was finished helping their
children
The praises he spoke
The joy he showed
“ Our two eldest “
He would say
“ they don't remember when they were born so i declared them twins, oh i wish
you could have seen how their eyes lit up”
He would tell her in detail what each of their babies were like
“ the twins are total opposites, but they fit each other”
“ One is more reserved, more shy, his attention span is terrible but when he's
truly interested in something he won't stop until he's the best”
“ He was only taught how to be strong so I taught him how to be gentle, I taught
him that there were more things than just blood. I taught him the ways of
farming”
“ he's a nerd i tell you, always has his nose in a book. Always has a fact on the tip
of his tongue. “
He would laugh, and then he would go on
“ The other one is quite the opposite. He's more confident, more outspoken than
the other. He pays great attention to detail so nothing slips under his radar”
“Actually it's the opposite, he slips under your radar more often than not. He's a
slippery one”
“ He was only taught to lead, to control, to never have emotions, those drag you
behind. So I taught him how to be happy, how to be sad, I taught him the ways of
music.”
“ he's a born musician with that tongue of his, he will have everyone wrapped
around his fingers in no time”
He would shake his head, but it was oh so fond
“The youngest is a star, he burns so bright “
“ He says what's on his mind, it doesn't matter if you want to hear it or not, He is
life itself I tell you. Everyone he meets can't help but grow a little fond of him.
He's learning tricks from his older brothers too”
“ He's gonna be a jack of all trades. Little brother of all”
“ his fire was put out by the people around him so i relit it for him, and i taught
him how to keep his fire burning bright, I taught him how to reject negativity I taught him the ways of happiness and positivity”
Her angel would go on and on, never stopping to catch his breath
And death would sit there and listen
She would be glad that her angel is finally happy again
But she wouldn't forget the other thing she had to do
She also wants to meet their children in person
So she worked and planned
She did her magic
Years went by
And one fateful day
Her angel came to the shrine he made to report the weekly status
Which was more what their children did and what they were going to do
he looked up at the statue he made with love that didn't fade even a bit over the
centuries he hasn't seen her
And he would talk
And talk
And talk
And like clockwork he would say
“Oh how i wish you were here, oh i still yearn to touch you, to feel you to kiss you.
But alas it's just blind hope.”
He would look up at the statue with a wistful smile
“ I once said that I would rather watch you destroy earth's beauty if it meant I
could see yours. I'm afraid i have to take back what i said''
He would chuckle
“Though I still don't see the beauty you spoke of, they do. One loves the beauty of
its nature, another loves the beauty of its power and music, and the last adores
the people”
“ and i would never do anything to make them sad, so i'm afraid earth stays”
He would then look down in despair
“ and i don't get to see you for another day…”
“Well im not to sure about that”
He would jump up in surprise. He would turn around and he would jump into her
arms.
The woman he dreamed about every night
The woman he missed every day
The woman he now kissed with overwhelming joy
Was now finally in his arms where she belonged
For a minute they just stayed there. Staring at each other, arms wrapped around
one another
Then he perked up
The kids! Oh she would finally meet their kids!
He dragged her up the stairs and introduced the kids to her
They adored her
They adored how her eyes shined like amethyst
How the abyss seemed to be trapped inside her hair
They adored how she fought
How she sung
How she navigated nature like it was only natural
How she talked with the people like she was one of them
And most importantly
They adored how she loved them.
How she gently held his hands even though they caused nothing but death in the
past
How she praised his voice even though he used to use it too bring people despair
How she stroked his fire despite the amount of people it had burned
Oh she was a mother and they her children.
Years flew by, everything around them changed but they stayed the same
And that was how it was till this present day.
A loving undying family exploring the beauty of earth while protecting one
another.
And if you're wondering how i know all of this
Well of course I heard it straight from my twin.
