Work Text:

The first time it happened, Raelle woke up with a strange kind of pressure on her chest. As she blinked the sleep from her eyes, she focused on the source. There was a small, black cat fast asleep and curled up on top of her. A small smile crept up on Raelle’s face as she took in the cat, who was snoring softly in its sleep. There was only one problem with this: she didn’t own a cat, nor did either of her roommates. Raelle sat up slightly, causing the cat’s green eyes to open and focus on Raelle’s face.

“Hello, beautiful.” Raelle whispered to the cat. “How on earth did you get in here?” She slowly brought her hand towards the cat’s face, careful not to spook it. The cat curiously sniffed her hand before making up its mind and rubbing its face against Raelle’s hand. The cat continued butting its head against her hand as Raelle scratched op top of its head and behind its ears.

“Ooh, you’re a cutie!” Raelle cooed as the cat started purring softly. Her fingers stroked through the soft black fur, going further down the cat’s neck, when they caught a small collar. She dug the white collar out of the black fur and found the metal name tag attached to it, ‘Morrigan’ it read.

“Is that your name, huh? Morrigan?” Raelle asked the cat, who just squinted its eyes at her. What kind of name was Morrigan? Who called their cat that? Cats needed cute, short names, two syllables max, in Raelle’s opinion, of course.

“I’m just gonna call you Morri, okay?” Raelle stroked Morrigan, her fingertips disappearing into the black fur. The cat had now flopped over and was laying on its side, still on top of Raelle’s chest.

“Come on, Morri.” Morrigan stubbornly hooked its claws into the covers as Raelle tried to sit up fully. “You’re cute, but you are in the wrong apartment, my friend.” She told the cat sternly, releasing its nails from the covers and getting out of bed herself. She regarded her opened balcony door; the gap was large enough for a cat to sneak through.

“Is that how you got in, huh? Little trespasser?” Morrigan let out a tiny meow. “Alright,” Raelle sighed, throwing on some sweatpants and a sweater, not bothering to fix her hair al all.  “Let’s get you back to your own home.” She scooped Morrigan up into her arms and made her way over to the front door of her next-door neighbour’s apartment. That seemed like the logical place to start since their balconies were attached to each other.

Their new neighbour had recently moved in, but Raelle hadn’t met them yet. They kept to themselves, not making any noise either. She knew someone had to be living next to her; Raelle had seen the boxes piled up in the hallway. That was the only time she had heard them, distant sounds of furniture being moved and heavy boxes being put down drifting into her own apartment. However, before she could contemplate asking if they’d needed any help, the opportunity had already passed, and Raelle had left it at that.

Raelle took a deep breath and started knocking on the door, a bit too enthusiastic, maybe, for how early in the morning it was. As the door swung open, she immediately regretted her outfit of choice. On the other side of the door stood the most beautiful woman she had ever seen, and Raelle could feel her greeting die in her throat. The woman was about the same height as her, with shoulder-length, dark hair that curled slightly at the tips. Raelle’s breath hitched in her throat as their eyes met. Holy shit, those were, without any competition, the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. Say something! Raelle told herself, but she was unable to get any words out. The look in the other woman’s impossibly dark blue eyes changed from annoyed to questioning when she noticed Morrigan in Raelle’s arms.

“Hi? Can I help you?” The woman asked after a moment when Raelle just continued to gape at her. She was certain she had never seen eyes this shade of blue before. Those hypnotising eyes had put her under some sort of spell, and she tried, but failed, to mentally shake herself out of it. She took a deep breath to try and regain her composure; it didn’t work in the slightest.

“Shouldn’t you introduce yourself?” Raelle blurted out the first thing that came to mind. She inwardly groaned; what kind of question was that? A playful grin formed on the woman’s lips.

“Shouldn’t you?” She shot back after a small pause, raising one eyebrow as her grin widened. Raelle couldn’t suppress her own smile. Was this Goddess of a woman flirting with her? The thought alone made her feel flushed. She had to look away from the intensity of the gaze as a blush formed on her cheeks. Instead, she focused on the reason for knocking in the first place, Morrigan, who was contently chilling in Raelle’s arms.

“I’m Scylla.” Scylla’s eyes were twinkling with mischief as she took in both the blonde and the cat.

“I’m Raelle. And I found Morri on top of me when I woke up.” Raelle was glad the sentence came out without stuttering. She tried to hand over Morrigan, but the cat jumped out of her arms and sauntered into Scylla’s apartment, lazily stretching her paws once inside.

“You dislike waking up with a girl on top of you?” Scylla tilted her head, now sporting a full-on smirk. Raelle's face flushed even more at the suggestiveness of both that sentence and Scylla’s sultry tone.

“Well, no, I mean yes, I mean when it’s unexpected?” She stammered. Get a grip, Collar! She scolded herself.

“But Morri is yours, right?” Raelle asked as she tried to pull herself together. With nothing in her arms, she didn’t know what to do with them. She settled on awkwardly putting her hands in her pockets. Scylla’s eyes were still on her, and Raelle shifted from one leg to another. She hadn’t felt this nervous or exposed in a long time. This woman just threw her completely off her axis and took away her ability to formulate normal sentences. Get it together! She scolded herself again. Flirt back!

“Yes, Morrigan lives with me.” Scylla emphasised the cat’s name, a hint of playful annoyance in her tone. “I’m surprised she let you carry her. She usually doesn’t take too kindly to strangers touching her.” A strange sense of pride flowed through Raelle at those words. She also immediately decided never to use Morri’s full name again, just to tease Scylla and get a rise out of her.

“I think she likes me. I do have a way with girls.” Raelle boldly stated, she mentally patted herself on the back. Scylla let out a laugh at that unexpected statement, and Raelle knew right away that she wanted to be the cause of that sound more often. She grinned back at Scylla before crouching down and calling out to Morrigan, who immediately came tippling over, tail raised happily. Morrigan rubbed her head at Raelle’s hand, letting the blonde pet her.

“See?” Raelle grinned up at Scylla, who just watched them with interest in her eyes, a bright smile gracing her lips. After a few more strokes, Raelle stood up again, playing with the ring on her index finger, unsure of what to say next.

“Thank you for bringing her back to me.” Scylla smiled. For a moment, it looked like she wanted to say something else, but she didn’t.

“You’re welcome, okay, you have a good day, bye.” Raelle rambled, taking a last good look at her neighbour’s unfairly attractive face, before awkwardly putting her hands back into the pockets of her sweats and walking back to her own apartment.

“See you around.” She heard Scylla’s melodic voice calling out behind her, the teasing undertone had returned full force. Raelle turned around and watched as Scylla closed her front door with a chuckle.

Back in her own apartment, Raelle leaned against the closed door and thudded her head against it. She released a deep sigh as she tried to process the last five minutes. What the hell just happened?

~

The second time it happened, Raelle had just gotten home from a full day of classes. She stopped in her tracks when she spotted Morrigan sitting on the kitchen counter, bathing herself, like it was the most natural place to be doing so.

“Hello again.” Morrigan let out a tiny meow at the words. Raelle stroked her between her ears, smiling when the cat started purring loudly. “Does Scylla know you’re here?” She asked Morrigan, the cat just squinted her eyes and continued purring.

“Alright, come on, Morri.” She scooped the cat up in her arms. Raelle held Morrigan to her chest with her right arm, whist trying to fix her hair with her other hand. At least she was wearing a much better outfit today. Satisfied with the amount of volume she brought back into the left side of her hair, she came to a halt in front of Scylla’s door. Raelle briefly closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and knocked. She was met with silence, nothing happened. She knocked again, still nothing. It appeared that her neighbour wasn’t home. Morrigan let out a whiny meow, headbutting Raelle’s chin.

“You wanna hang out with me until your owner gets home?” Raelle softly asked the cat, who seemed perfectly content pressed to her chest. “I’ll take that as a ‘yes’.” Raelle let out a breathy laugh as she returned to her own apartment, carrying Morrigan with her.

Raelle was lounging on the worn couch in their shared living room. Morrigan had fallen asleep on her lap as she tried to wrestle her way through some dense literature about the use of mycelia in modern-day medicine. Both of their heads shot up as the front door opened, and her roommates loudly barged into the living room.

“Who’s cat is that?” Abigail threw herself on the couch next to Raelle, who winced as Morrigan’s claws dug through her pants and into her legs.

“Morri, meet Abigail Bellweather. She’s not as bad as she seems.” Raelle told the cat on her lap with a grin, carefully extracting the claws from her pants.

“Morri?” Abigail asked incredulously, one eyebrow raised. “And answer the question, shitbird. Who’s cat did you kidnap?”

“Isn’t catnap the correct term here?” Tally butted in with a large grin. Throwing herself down on Raelle’s other side.

“Aww, you’re so cute!” She cooed at the cat, who regarded both newcomers with a wary posture, as if ready to bolt at the first signs of danger.

“Can I touch it?” Abigail asked, already moving her hand towards Morrigan. Raelle raised her eyebrows at her friend.

“She’ll let you know if you can’t.” She stated with a cheeky grin. Abigail shrugged and went to pet Morrigan. The black cat shot up on all fours, hissing loudly at Abigail, who immediately retracted her hand with a yelp.

“Well, I guess that answers that.” Raelle laughed as she scratched Morri behind her ears. The cat cautiously laid herself down on Raelle’s lap again, ears still peaked.

“Morri is our neighbour’s cat.” Raelle explained to her roommates. “She was already in here when I got home.”

“You mean Scylla?” Tally asked, slowly and carefully moving her hand towards Morrigan’s face. The cat sniffed Tally’s hand and gave it a soft headbutt, causing a large, dimpled smile on the redhead’s face. Abigail just huffed and crossed her arms, looking offended. Morrigan returned her head to Raelle’s hand, who absentmindedly began to stroke behind her ears again.

“Yeah, Scylla. Do you know her?” Raelle asked excitedly. Abigail snorted out a laugh.

“Wow there, walking lesbian stereotype, eager much?” Raelle felt her cheeks flush. It was bad enough that she had made a total fool out of herself in front of their Goddess of a neighbour. She didn’t need Abigail to know about that, too.

“I spoke with her briefly when she had just moved in.” Tally supplied. “She’s a biochemistry major, seems really nice and smart.” Raelle decided to store that bit of information for later.

“I’m going to take Morri over here and see if Scylla’s home now.” She got up from the couch, her knees popping as she stretched.

“Careful now, shitbird.” Abigail drawled with a smirk. “Try not to sprain something with that eagerness.” Raelle just rolled her eyes and flipped her off, hugging Morrigan in her arms.

“Bye, Morri!” Tally petted Morrigan’s head in their passing.

“Shall I pack up your shit in case you want to U-Haul and move in with Scylla?” Abigail called after Raelle, who flipped her off once again.

Raelle paused before Scylla’s door. Just knock, what’s the worst that can happen? She told herself. She took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and knocked on the door. After a few moments, it swung open, revealing Scylla, who seemed to have been in the middle of drying her damp hair with a towel.

“Oh, hi again.” Scylla greeted her with a wide grin, taking in Morrigan hanging comfortably in Raelle’s arms.

“Um, hi.” Raelle nervously shifted her weight from one leg to the other, swallowing the sudden dryness in her mouth. Good god, the effect this woman had on her.

“I found Morri lounging in our apartment again, so I’ve come to return her. You weren’t home earlier, so I let her wait with me.” Raelle trailed off, handing Morrigan to Scylla, who snuggled the cat close before putting her down on the floor.

“How thoughtful of you.” She grinned at Raelle. “Morrigan is lucky you’re such a welcoming host.”

“Well, I enjoyed her company, so it was a win-win.” Raelle gave Scylla what she hoped would pass as a charming smile. She toyed with her mother’s ring on her index finger, wrecking her brain for an excuse to keep talking to Scylla.

“You do realise that Morrigan is perfectly capable of finding her own way back to my apartment, right?” Scylla tilted her head as she regarded Raelle with a smirk and raised eyebrows. Raelle had, in fact, not thought about that, and she mentally face-palmed. Of course, Morrigan would be able to do that. She was perfectly capable of getting into Raelle’s apartment in the first place.

“But then I would miss the opportunity to see you again.” Raelle countered smoothly, but on the inside, she could feel her heart race. The pleased smile Scylla gave her made the risk entirely worth it.

“And we wouldn’t want that, now, would we?” She pinned Raelle to the spot with just the intensity of her gaze. Scylla took a step forward into the blonde’s personal space, relishing in the way Raelle visibly gulped.

“Thank you for safely returning Morrigan to me. Again.” She gave Raelle a cute two-eyed wink before leaning in and pressing her lips to Raelle’s cheek, leaving a lingering kiss.

“You have a good day.” Scylla grinned at Raelle, stepping back inside and closing her front door with a click. As Raelle stood rooted to the spot, staring at the now closed door, she was once again left with the same thought: what the hell just happened?

~

The third time it happened, it was Abigail’s birthday, and that night, they would be throwing a party to celebrate. Tally and Raelle had surprised Abigail with cake and candles in bed, which had almost caused them to burn the house down. It turned out that an overly excited Tally and flames were not a good combination.

Raelle had retreated to her bedroom for some much needed peace and quiet when she heard Morrigan announce herself with a tiny meow. The cat jumped on Raelle’s bed, immediately getting in the blonde’s face for cuddles. Raelle reclined into her pillows, and Morrigan made herself comfortable on her lap.

Raelle decided not to bring Morrigan back to her own apartment right away this time. Like Scylla had told her, she was a smart cat, and if she could get from one apartment to the other by herself, she would be able to do the reverse as well. Raelle would just have to suppress the urge of wanting to see Scylla again. Ever since they had met, her ridiculously hot neighbour had been on her mind.

Raelle woke up a few hours later, slightly disoriented. She must have dozed off. Morrigan was now curled up at her feet, snuggled up against her legs. Raelle perked her ears, it sounded like someone was persistently knocking on the front door. Apparently, Abigail and Tally weren’t home and had left Raelle to sleep. She glanced at the clock, there was still plenty of time left before the first guests would be arriving.

“Yeah, I’m coming.” She muttered to herself. She was about to tell whoever was on the other side to go away, since the party wasn’t scheduled to start for a few more hours, but the words died in her throat.

“Hi?” Raelle said to Scylla, who had her fist raised to launch into yet another round of knocking.

“What took you so long?” Scylla impatiently huffed, trying to look past Raelle into the apartment. “Is Morrigan here?” The cat in question came sauntering out of Raelle’s room at the sound of Scylla’s voice.

“I’m sorry.” Raelle awkwardly scratched her neck. “I assumed that she would go back to yours herself.”

“No, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude.” Scylla sighed. “I’ve just had a rough day, and when Morrigan just didn’t show, I got worried.” Scylla gave her a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. Raelle noticed, but decided not have the courage to mention it. She only did see it because she had been actively staring at that beautiful face. Raelle hesitated for a moment.

“Would you like to come in?” She asked Scylla, her voice sounding awfully hopeful to her own ears. Scylla contemplated the offer for a moment before shaking her head.

“No, it’s alright, I should get back to mine. I have a lot of work to do.” She bent down to pick Morrigan up. The cat let out of soft meow of protest, turning her head to Raelle.

“I will see you again next time, okay?” Raelle scratched Morrigan between her ears. “You be good for Scylla.” As Scylla was about to walk away, Raelle stopped her with a soft touch to her arm.

“Hey, so, we’re throwing a party tonight, and I was wondering if you’d maybe like to come? It’s totally cool if you can’t, but it’s Abigail’s birthday, and I thought you might like to come over?” Raelle rambled nervously.

“Not really my kind of thing.” Scylla told her reflexively, and Raelle tried not to be too disappointed. Scylla felt a pang of sadness in her chest at the way Raelle’s face fell. Scylla didn’t do birthday parties, not voluntarily anyway. She looked at the blonde, who was lingering hesitantly in the doorway. “I’ll think about it, okay?”

“Yeah, sure, okay!” Raelle’s voice was overly excited and a pitch higher than usual, Scylla gave her a small smile before returning to her own apartment  with Morrigan.

Raelle closed the door with a click, all but smacking her forehead into it. Well, that could have gone better.

~

Most of the early guests had arrived, and the party was already in full swing. Raelle was nursing a plastic cup filled with some deadly mixture Abigail had made her. She didn’t even know what exactly was in it, but judging by the taste of it, it contained more alcohol than soda. She knew she shouldn’t get her hopes up, but every time a new guest arrived, Raelle found herself wishing it was Scylla. Only to feel disappointed when it turned out to be someone else. She was pulled out of her thoughts about her ridiculously attractive neighbour by none other than the birthday girl herself.

“Shitbird!” Abigail was dragging a slightly flushed Adil with her. “You’re on door duty from now on.” She ordered.

“What? Why?” Raelle protested, frowning.

“I need a little charge-up before this party really gets started.” She waggled her eyebrows obnoxiously, a lewd smirk on her face.

“Ew.” Raelle scrunched up her face in mock disgust. “Please turn up the music’s volume before you go. I don’t want to hear you.” Adil had the decency to give Raelle an apologetic smile.

“Make sure to at least try to smile when you answer the door. Otherwise you’ll scare all the guests away!” With that said, Abigail pulled Adil into her room and threw the door shut behind them. Raelle rolled her eyes at the, now closed, bedroom door and relocated herself closer to the front door of their apartment. It wasn’t long before there was already a knock on the front door. Raelle didn’t even try to put on a fake smile before opening the door.

“That’s funny!” Byron walked in with a large grin on his face. “I was going to be looking for the grumpiest girl in the house, but here you are!”

“And I was wondering when that annoying ray of sunshine was going to show up.” Raelle shot back, but her face softened. Byron scoffed out a laugh and put his arm around Raelle’s shoulder, pulling her with him to the kitchen. He took her empty cup, grabbed one for himself, and started pouring them both a drink.

“The faster you drink this, the faster this becomes a party.” Byron took a huge gulp before raising his cup to Raelle’s to cheers. There was knocking at the front door again.

“Excuse me for a sec.” Raelle put her hand on Byron’s arm. “Abigail put me on door duty.” Byron pulled a face, but shrugged as he went to mingle with their other friends. Raelle pulled open the door, revealing Glory, Tally’s childhood friend.

“Hey Glory, welcome.” Raelle gave her an earnest smile. “Tal, Glory’s here!” She yelled at her roommate, who was currently in a heated battle of beer pong with Gerit and Gregorio. Glory gave Raelle a quick hug and immediately went over to the table to help Tally out. Raelle watched them with a smile, vowing to challenge the winners for a battle as soon as she was freed from door duty. Someone had turned up the volume of the music, and Raelle could almost feel the bass blasting through the apartment. Morrigan definitely wouldn’t be showing up tonight, Raelle thought with a small smile. Way too much noise and ruckus for a cat. There was yet another person knocking on the front door. Raelle pulled open the door, doing a double take when the object of her thoughts stood at the other side. Raelle could almost feel the irritation that rolled off of Scylla in waves.

“Hi.” Raelle said, a bit breathless, giving Scylla a sunny grin.

“Did you know that this party is very loud?” Scylla crossed her arms and didn’t return the smile.

“Yeah, sorry about that.” Raelle’s grin turned sheepish. “You’re welcome to stay?” Scylla looked conflicted for a moment, taking in the party behind Raelle.

“If you’re not enjoying yourself, you can always leave?” Raelle suggested, holding out her hand.

“Alright.” Scylla took her hand, and Raelle tried not to get distracted by how right Scylla’s hand felt in her own. It was soft and warm. Just as she was about to pull Scylla with her to the kitchen, Abigail’s bedroom door opened. Adil exited first, looking flushed as he put his light blue neck scarf back on. Abigail followed buttoning her blouse and fixing her hair as she closed the bedroom door behind her. She stopped in her tracks when she spotted Scylla with Raelle.

“How did you get here? You can’t crash this party!” Abigail posture was rigid as she addressed Scylla.

“I walked in through the front door.” Scylla said with a sarcastic smile, standing her ground. Abigail’s jaw tightened and she put her hands on her hips.

“Relax, Abs.” Raelle came between them to defuse the palpable tension. “I invited her. This way, she won’t file a noise complaint.” She joked, mostly at Scylla, who smirked back at her. It seemed like being an annoyance to Abigail did the trick in getting Scylla to stay. Abigail stepped closer towards Scylla.

“You are not going to mess this up for me.” She threatened. Adil put his hand on her arm in a calming manner.

“I just can’t wait until we meet again.” Scylla sarcastically told Abigail, her gaze intense, eyes blazing.

“Okay, yeah, let’s go.” Raelle squeaked, pulling Scylla with her. “I’m off door duty!” She called over her shoulder at Abigail, who watched them go, eyebrows raised.

“Byron!” Raelle held two fingers up. Byron began pouring the drinks right away, handing both Scylla and Raelle a plastic cup filled with his deadly concoction. Scylla raised one eyebrow at Raelle in a questioning, but flirty manner.

“Cheers!” Raelle smashed their cups together in a toast, and she took a large gulp. Scylla downed half her cup in one go, not even looking fazed in the slightest by the taste of the strong liquor. Raelle couldn’t keep the impressed look off her face.

“What’s Abigail’s problem anyway?” Scylla inquired, after downing the rest of her drink as well.

“Oh, Morri hates her. She wouldn’t let Abigail pet her.” Raelle laughed. Scylla looked awfully pleased to hear that.

“Come on.” Scylla said after Byron gave her a refill. “Show me what this party’s got.” Raelle just grinned and eagerly followed this siren of a woman into the living room.

As soon as Raelle and Scylla entered the living room, they were greeted with the sounds of whoops and hollers coming from Gerit and Gregorio. Indicating they had won their match against Tally and Glory and were now looking for new opponents.

“Will you take this ping-pong ball and bravely fight?” He asked Raelle with a crooked grin. She rolled her eyes at his theatrics, but took the ball anyway.

“Oh, you’re on, Shellbark.” Raelle helped Gerit reposition the cups as Gregorio filled them all with a layer of beer.

“You in, partner?” Raelle asked Scylla, who lingered a bit behind her. Scylla took the ball out of Raelle’s hand and gave her a dazzling smile. Without a word, she threw the ball into one of the other team’s cups. Raelle knew she was staring, but she couldn’t help herself. Could this girl get any hotter? She told herself to close her mouth and stop gaping.

“Nice one, Scyl!” The nickname just slipped out. Must have been the alcohol, Raelle thought, but Scylla didn’t seem to mind. She just smiled cockily. Gerit and Gregorio looked slightly taken aback, sharing a bit of a worried gaze. Gerit took the ping-pong ball out of the cup and downed the beer. Scylla turned back to Raelle and winked at her.

“Beginner’s luck.” Gregorio scoffed, but his voice lacked the usual confidence. Gerit scrunched his face up in concentration and also sunk his first shot. He let out a loud whoop and high-fived Gregorio. Scylla grabbed the cup with the ping-pong ball before Raelle had the chance to and downed the beer in one big gulp. Raelle had to stifle a laugh. Scylla, who could chug the strongest of liquors without as much as a blink, pulled a disgusted face at the taste of the cheap beer. She handed the ball to Raelle, who took her aim and also sunk her first shot.

“Nice, Rae.” Scylla said, emphasising the nickname teasingly. Raelle felt her cheeks burn. She held her hand out for a high-five, which Scylla gave her.

“Nice wrist movement you’ve got there.” Scylla whispered sultry in Raelle’s ear. “Makes me wonder what other skills you have with your hands.” Raelle almost choked on her own spit. Her entire face now felt flushed, not from embarrassment, but from the suggestiveness in Scylla’s tone. When she dared to look at her, those impossibly blue eyes were already on her, sparkling with mischief. Raelle inwardly groaned, trying to keep her mind out of the gutter. This girl was going to be the death of her.

After a heated battle of beer pong, in which they had been evenly matched, both teams only had one cup remaining. It was Raelle’s turn, and she shifted from one foot to the other, feeling her palms get sweaty.

Pull it together, Collar! She scolded herself. It’s just a game. But she desperately wanted to impress the Goddess next to her, she had to win them this game. Raelle took a deep breath, rolled back her shoulders, and squinted one eye closed, taking her aim. The ping-pong ball seemed to be moving in slow-motion, flowing through the air with a perfect curve. The ping-pong ball landed in Gerit and Gregorio’s final cup without even touching the sides. Raelle raised her arms, fists balled as she pet out a victorious whoop. She turned to Scylla, whose lips were curled up in amusement.

Before Raelle’s brain could catch up, she already had Scylla in her arms and picked her up. Scylla let out a surprised chuckle, but put her arms around Raelle’s shoulders and hugged her back. Raelle stumbled slightly as she put Scylla down, not sure if her instability was caused by the alcohol, Scylla’s proximity, or both. Raelle tightened her hold to steady them both. Scylla was so close, their faces mere centimetres apart. Raelle’s heartbeat drummed in her ears as she could feel herself drowning in those endless pools of blue. All she had to do was lean in, and they would be kissing. The thought alone was enough to make her lightheaded.

“Good game!” The moment was broken by Gerit, who came over to high-five them. Raelle mentally cursed him for interrupting before realising they were in the middle of crowded living room. Raelle awkwardly cleared her throat as she reluctantly let go of Scylla to high-five the men. Did she just almost kiss Scylla in front of the entire party? The realisation struck her like a ton of bricks.

“Excuse me.” She mumbled as she ran over to her own bedroom, throwing open the balcony door and stepping outside for some much needed air.

You idiot! She threw her head into her hands, elbows resting on the balcony railing. There was no way Scylla hadn’t picked up on the fact that she just almost kissed her.

“Are you okay?” Scylla had followed her, lingering in the opening of the door. Raelle swallowed thickly before turning around.

“I’m fine. I just needed some air.” She breathed, not making eye contact. Once those eyes pulled her in, it would be over. Scylla cautiously stepped closer, making sure not to spook her.

“I wanted to tell you that I was very impressed with your skills back there. You won us the game.” The playful, flirty undertone in Scylla’s voice had returned full force. Raelle couldn’t help herself; she looked up. Scylla was smirking at her, her eyes a sparkling dark blue.

“You were?” Raelle whispered. Scylla took another step closer.

“Uhuh, and winners get a prize.” Raelle could feel her heart beat loudly in her chest as she nervously swallowed the lump that had suddenly formed in her throat. Was this really happening? Raelle’s gaze flitted from Scylla’s eyes, down to her lips and back up. She unconsciously wetted her own.

“What prize?” Raelle dared to ask, bracing herself for the answer. Scylla’s smirk became even wider. She closed the gap between them and pressed their lips together. Scylla pulled back after a moment, waiting for Raelle’s reaction, her expression both thrilled and apprehensive. For a moment, Raelle could only stare at Scylla, a dazed look on her face. But then she surged forward, grasping Scylla’s face in both hands, and kissed her back passionately. A needy moan slipped out, as Scylla felt her back hit the wall, Raelle pressed up against her.

“Want to go back to my place? It’s not far from here.” Scylla whispered in Raelle’s ear. Raelle wheezed out a laugh at that ridiculous statement, the tension between them temporarily broken.

“Come with me.” Scylla gave her a cheeky grin before climbing on the balustrade and past the windshield that separated their balconies. Raelle just stared after her.

“You do know that we’re on the third floor, right?” She deadpanned. “You could have fallen down.” Worry laced through her voice. Scylla peaked her head from behind the windshield, a wide grin showing her teeth.

“Live a little!” Raelle hesitated for a moment. It wasn’t that she was scared of heights perse, she’d just rather not fall and break multiple limbs. Scylla was still looking at her expectantly, almost daring.

“Okay.” Raelle too climbed the balustrade, jumping down on Scylla’s balcony. She let out a sigh of relief. Scylla immediately kissed Raelle again, pulling her into her bedroom. Their kisses quickly became more heated, a clash of lips, tongues and a bit of teeth. Once fully inside, Raelle took charge and pushed Scylla onto the bed. They were both startled by an angry hiss, followed by a meow. Morrigan had been peacefully sleeping on Scylla’s bed before she was rudely woken.

“Morri!” Raelle whispered loudly as the cat scurried away.

“You know, if you want this pussy, you’ll have to start calling my cat by her full name.” Scylla said with a coy smile and hooded eyes.

“What? Cat got your tongue?” She playfully added, when Raelle didn’t answer her, but just stared. After a moment she sprung to action.

“Oh, I ain’t pussyfooting around.” Raelle fired back with a cheeky grin, as she grasped Scylla’s face in both hands and pressed their lips together in another string of heated kisses. She pushed Scylla into the mattress, using her entire body, and slotted her thigh in between Scylla’s legs. Scylla rolled her hips upwards right away, a needy moan slipping out.

“Is this okay?” Raelle whispered into the darkness as her hands moved towards Scylla’s belt buckle.

“Yes, please.” Scylla sounded breathless, bucking up into Raelle’s touch, she moaned again.

“It’s a good thing the party next door is so loud.” Raelle husked, ghosting her lips over the shell of Scylla’s ear. She looked at the goosebumps that appeared on Scylla’s neck with a delighted grin. “You wanna know why?” Scylla could only nod, no longer able to formulate any words.

“Because this way I can have you moaning my name as much and as loud as I please.”

The fourth time it happened, Raelle woke up with a strange pressure on both her side and her chest. As she blinked the sleep from her eyes, she focused on both sources. Morrigan, of course, was curled up on top of her, fast asleep, and snoring softly. It gave her a strange feeling of Deja-vu. What was new, however, was the woman cuddled up to her left side. Raelle grinned as she pulled Scylla closer to her chest. Scylla let out a sigh in her sleep and nuzzled her face deeper into Raelle’s neck. Morrigan truly has been playing matchmaker. Raelle thought, a giddy expression forming on her face. This has definitely been a different kind of catcall.

Notes:

I'm sorry for the cat puns.
